Virtual Hell

Before Nick was able to get to sleep, he smelled something in the air. Something...bad. He sat up and walked outside of the inn. He looked around for the source of the bad smell. Just then, he noticed smoke in the distance. "Possibly some players starting a campfire?...No, the smoke's too big to be a campfire...Oh, man..It's a forest fire!" He said to himself. He ran back into the inn to get Sammy. She was still resting, and Nick didn't think that this was a big enough situation to disturb her. He took the blank sign-in sheet on the desk of the inn, and wrote her a note. He wrote: "Sorry to leave out of nowhere like this, but the forest nearby is on fire. I'm going to go help deal with the situation and see if I can get any other players to join up with me (Or us, if you decide to come over there). Thanks for everything you've done so far. Thanks, Lars.(A.K.A Nick). He put the piece of paper on her head so she would definitely notice it when she awoke. He then ran off towards the site of the forest fire.

 

Feeling something tickling her ear, Sammy reached up and touched her head, feeling a piece of paper. "What the?" She sat up drowsily and saw the door shut. Oh gosh...I think I was almost in REM sleep too. Sighing, she looked at the note and straightened up. This was something serious. She quickly put on her armor and equipped her swords again, not drawing them yet. Opening the door, she rushed outside of the inn and saw Nick a short distance away. Immediately, she could feel a great heat in the air and saw columns of smoke rising to the sky. The forest was burning. What can we possibly do? "Hey! What's the plan?" she shouted to Nick. Sammy doubted they'd make a dent in the fire, but she didn't think it was right to watch the forest burn down without trying anything.

 

Nick looked back as he heard Sammy's call, "Well, I doubt it's gonna do much, but I'm gonna take this empty potion bottle,take it to the lake back here, fill it up with water and throw it into the fire with the lid off. Probly not the best plan, but it's better than nothing, right?" He replied, running off towards the lake. He arrived, opened the empty potion bottle and filled it to the brim with water. "Alright, let's see how this is gonna play out." He stuck the lid back onto the bottle and ran towards the burning forest. When he reached the forest, he watched in awe at the amount of fire in the area. He began to question if his idea was going to do any good. "Well, he goes nothin'" He removed the lid from the water filled vial, he armed his throw, yelled "Water in the Hole!" and chucked the bottle straight into the blazing inferno. Nothing. "Dammit!" he said. He looked around for anything he could use to put it out, but found nothing. "Hey, Fire, you wouldn't happen to know...I don't know, Magic would you?!" He asked.

 

Laurence sneaked a peak at Nox's computer once or twice without her noticing, hopefully, and noticed Civia was still playing. That room where he could slip into the game was somewhere in his boss' office. It would be nice if Laurence could sneak a peak at Civia as a wolf (the animal that he was), just to see if she was hurt or not. He went past Nox, saying that he was going to ask something only, in case she wondered, before placing his hand on the knob and twisted it, pushing the door open. He knocked three times.

"Sir, hope you don't mind I sneak a peak at what's happening in the game?" He grins rather sheepishly--and childishly.

Civia frowns deeply, her buckets of water were definitely not working. And she felt stupid for trying once, twice or even five times, running from quite a distance and back. It was hopeless with a bucket, and as the heat licked her face and left sweat, a few burns here and there, she tried not to panic; she really did. She ran out of the forest, or the part that wasn't burning, and panted a while before running again. She noticed a small ember on her jester-skirt and immediately put it out with her index and thumb.

Ah, if she hadn't noticed that ember, her skirt might have totally burned off of her.

Wait a minute...burn off. Burn out., she thought suddenly. An idea hit her hard; like a stone hit her head. Civia then searched around her for that stone that hit her, any stone, hoping the stone she would find (and metaphorically hit her) was rough. She found the culprit and picked up the stone and took her staff, opening the compartment that hid her wakizashi.

She dropped her staff and bucket, while holding her wakizashi and the stone, plucked a few leaves from a low hanging branch and picked up dry, fallen ones. She set them by a tree, at the roots, and struck the stone with her wakizashi. It sparked, but didn't light. She tried again.

After a few times, a fire had started, and she watched it spread almost just as fast as the first one seemed to go. The leaves were already reduced to ashes and the fire began eating the tree. She nodded, dropped the stone, gripped harder on her wakizashi, and ran the other way, picking up her staff.

 

Sammy didn't move from her spot as she watched Nick fill up the little bottle and fling it at the fire. "Did you honestly think that would do something?" she yelled out to him. Not to mention he wasted a perfectly good bottle. Kids these days don't know the value of things. "Of course not! There's no magic in this game, man!" she shouted back in response to his query. Sighing she looked up and watched the trees burn before her eyes casually searched the area, having given up already. Her eyes stopped at a well in the distance with the bucket laying next to it. Looks like someone's tried that already. Is there another player nearby? Have they heard us already, because of the shouting? Turning back to Nick and postponing her thoughts she shouted,"Forget about it. Our best bet is damage control. Sometimes you just have to let fires burn out."

 

Nick looked back at the fire, finally giving up, "Fine.." He looked over at the same well that Sammy had noticed, "..Hey, it looks like someone was using that well over there. You want to check? Ya know, 'the more, the merrier', I guess.." He suggested. At this point he was bluntly ignoring the raging inferno going on behind him. "Regardless of your answer, I'm going over there." He ran over towards the well to see if anyone really was there. Upon reaching it, he noticed someone a little ways away, standing in front of a burning branch. "Hey, You! What're you doing?!" He ran towards her. As he grew closer he began to notice that not only was she in front of a fire, she was starting it. Before he could reach her, she ran off. "Son of a-- Hey! Get back here!" He ran after the girl, thinking that she was the one who started the fire in the first place.

 

Civia heard the man, but kept running. They could have gotten burnt; that was he first thought.

When she reached the end of the forest, she stopped abruptly and turned to look at the man...or boy. She didn't exactly know. Civia then kept her wakizashi in her staff casually and looked back up at the other player. "Hello," she says, like nothing happened.

She stole a glance at the fire, seeing that it seemed to be doing its job right.

 

As Nick cought up to his alleged offender, he noticed she stopped. He did so as well. Panting, he said "Are you the one who started the whole fire ordeal in the forest back there?!" He looked at her with an alarmingly angry look. "Virtual or not, you could've killed someone!" He then stood there, waiting for a response.

 

Civia took in a deep breath, calmly forming her words. Quite the aggresive, hard-headed type he seemed to be; but looks and first impressions aren't everything. "Not the first one. I started the second one. The counter-fire will help burn out the first one." she explains without him asking. She then looks away and stares at the fire. "It was simply too big."

Civia looked back to the man. "By the way, my name is Meiyu."

 

Nick looked back at the fire that she had started to counter the larger one. "Oh, I see how that would wor--" He then turned to look back at the girl. "Wait, Meiyu? Why does that sound so...familiar..." He triad to remember where he had heard that name before. He finally got it. "Hey, You're that girl I met at the park before...Civia, right?" He smiled as remembered who she was. "It's me, Nick. We met in the park before, remember?" He asked.

 

She broke into a warm smile. "Oh, how could I forget? Yes, I remember. Now." Civia said, still amiling warmly, though the smile was a bit less. Then it completely faded. "Are you alone here? It could be a bit too dangerous alone, given that attack a while ago..." She trails, hand flinching as it inched towards her thigh but stopped.

Civia then started looking around as the man was thinking up a response. She was trying to memorize the place; any landmarks, aside from the fire. This town, Fala, would come in handy.

"Oh, and did you just come from a town yourself?" She asks, breaking her gaze from the rest of the scene and let her eyes fall on Nick.

 

He smiled back at Civia, "No I'm not here alone, the person I was with is back that way, and yes, I did come from a town, it was called...Bagel? or...Whatever, I'll know it if I see it. How 'bout you? Do you have anybody with you right now?" He asked. Half-listening, he looked back to see if Sammy was still there.

 

Explain this to me in VM?

"'Regardless of your answer, I'm going.' Tch. How annoying." spat Sammy, a bit miffed that Nick would run off like that. Sighing she casually walked in the direction that Nick ran off to, having already taken a liking to him and seeing him as a little brother. She kept a close eye on his figure and stopped when she saw another person with him. Cautiously, Sammy bent her knees and prepared to unleash one of her swords, her right hand gripping the sword on her left hip. However, after watching them a little more, it seemed like Nick knew this person, a girl she could see, and so she relaxed again. Is my hood up? I need to be more careful. Reaching back, she quickly pulled her hood up, hiding her face.

 

OOC: I am SO sorry guys, my laptop got a bad virus a few days ago. D: Back now though.

Rei's helmet sensors picked up the sudden increase of heat coming from behind them. She turned, only to see black smoke in the distance. "A fire...? Hey, should we go back and check that out? Or do you want to just continue to the mountains?" she asked, since they were about halfway between the mountains and where the fire seemed to originate.

Michael straightened his tie, then looked up at Richard. "Thank you. How many have...failed to survive at this point?" he asked the other man. Just then, the door opened once more, and Laurence appeared. Upon hearing his question, he shook his head.
"Not quite yet, Laurence. I need to make a few more adjustments before I can allow any employees into the game. Wouldn't want them to get hurt," he said, looking Laurence in the eyes. It was a silent threat, daring the man to challenge his word, since Michael guessed he was worried about his daughter.

 

"Whatever you want", Leon replied stopping and turning to see the rising smoke in the distance. Would dying from smoke inhalation kill them as well? he wondered, waiting for his shortly known companion to decide.

"About two of the three I've found have gone down the drain", Richard jested his information as a man entered and began talking to Michael. Richard chose to wait out of the way and started fiddling with one of the office decorations in the background. On his mind was the thought of getting off work to have fun, since they weren't allowed into the game yet.

 

Laurence pulled off a smile. "Alright," he says, feigning cheerfulness. He then leaves and glances at another employee, Richard, he thought. The smile he had on had faded as worry lines appeared. He should probably leave soon...

Civia arched a brow as he looked back. Then she saw a figure, but chose to ignore it. It could have been just her.

"Yeah, I'm alone. I just came to this town," she said, pointing to the neat little town that was by the once beautiful and lush forest, "Fala, I believe. Just when I was about to rest, smoke started coming from there, and I tried to put it out. Haven't met anyone else other than you."

 

Nick looked back at her, "Well, if you'd like, you could come with me and my friend, you know, like you said before, we beta tester have to work together." He said, smiling. "Wait, before you answer, let me go and get my parter, it'd be better if you met now other than later." He said. He then ran a back towards the forest to see if Sammy was there. He saw her bent down, ready to take out a sword of hers. "Hey, sorry about running off, but I think I may have found someone else who could come with us to...wherever we're going." he said.

 

Civia was just about to speak just when Nick hushed her. She closed her mouth, pursing it. Another beta tester? Hm, that was good. Better. She watched Nick run off to go to his partner, but stopped somewhere along the way. That was where the figure was. It must have been a player this whole time.

She began to walk forwards in the direction of Nick, not at all intending to wait.

 

"Another one? Hmm...I'm not so sure about that," replied Sammy as she straightened up. It's bad enough that I have to take care of this dork and make sure he doesn't do something else stupid. However, maybe he can take care of himself with this new player. But where am I supposed to go now? I think I may have been following him this whole time. How sad. she thought depressingly as she furrowed her eyebrows. Sammy looked back towards the distance where she saw the other player. The girl was on the move. Immediately Sammy tensed and resisted the urge to take a step back. Oh crap, she's coming this way! What do I do? What do I do?! she panicked her eyes shifting from left to right looking for a way to escape. No no no! Stop being so awkward! Just calm down and wait. The more the merrier right? Oh who am I kidding, you're not ready for this. "You know what? That's great, buddy. You can have a better partner now, and I think I'll just hightail it out of here. Maybe we'll meet up again some other time if either of us needs help, ha ha. Well, see you pal. Take care of yourself and don't go drinking water from random places, dude!" Sammy said as she backed away slowly before turning and breaking into a run. Already she was regretting this decision slightly. What're you doing? This is stupid. You need plenty of help. What's wrong with mutualism? Everyone wins. Well, what're you going to do now, genius?

It can be effectively dislocate everything and be used as a whip, or it can connect up and be used as a spear.
Bio: Charlie lost the majority of his right arm to a fireworks incident at the age of 17 when he was out partying out in the woods for a Guy Fawkes celebration with some friends. Currently he finds himself at his local hospital where he is set to be given a prostetic arm. Patients are more readily prepared for a new prostetic if they have experience a virutal reality version of a similar prostetic. When the hospital was given an Aeon System Manufacturing donation of several virtual reality simulators particular intrest was taken in Charlie and in his case he recieved a special simulator. Personality: Still truamatized from his limb-losing incedent Charlie is very timid around everyone. His lack of an arm usually being a constant reminder, doctors expect Charlie to soon renounce the reality of his condition and indulge in a vice to get away from it.
