Virtual Hell

Richard left the room after being dismissed. The suit he had to wear during his job constantly annoyed him, he loosened his tie and unbuttoned the highest button. "Bloody collars", he muttered as he tugged on the tie. He headed through the Aeon building heading to the location he had to be to wait for someone to jack into the game.

 

In the shower, Civia thought and rethought, almost tempted to try it again. Almost.

She remembered the closest save point before removing the helmet--her memory provided such trivial and essential information at times. Why had she wanted this? Simply because she was an Aeon-fan? She supposed she wasn't one anymore, after what just happened. She was already aware of the risks--what if she suffered a coma-inducing blow to the head?

What worried her most, surprisingly, was her older brother, Joshua, the envious sibling that he was.

He was going to try this game, and what if there are no Hunters to warn him? What if he...?

She was done, and she quickly dressed. She heard her brother come home a few minutes before she finished. No doubt he would bolt straight to the living room and take a gander at the console Aeon provided. The chances--she weighed it--of him taking the helmet immediately were high, but she clung to the hope that he didn't. She was protective by nature (must be her mother's fault).

True enough, when she stepped out of the bathroom and marched to the living room (book in hand), her brother was wearing the helmet.

OOC: What DOES happen if you get a hit that's supposed to put you in a coma? o.o

 

Chris nodded as Micheal dismissed him. He left the room, tugging at his collar. "Honestly, can anyone breathe in these things?" he whispered under his breath. He wondered how and where he would start to get the testers to meet in the real world. It's not like he could just tell one of them to go where the others were.

Rai sat up in his bed and stared out the window; raining. Just as he liked it. "I think I'll go for a walk..." he said. He walked down the stairs, grabbing his jacket and putting it on as he walked out the door. He pulled the hood up and held out his hand, letting the raindrops splash against his palm. For some reason, it relaxed him. I'm gonna head towards the park, he thought to himself, starting on his way.

Appearance: An Asian girl with long dark hair that is always tied in a low ponytail. She always wears a jacket, vest, or sweatshirt of some sort. The jackets and vests are always zipped up to the top. She likes it when the vests or jackets have pockets, particularly zipper pockets. Dark clothes are also a favorite of her's.

In-game appearance: Just about the same as her real life appearance except that she wears a brown hooded cloak and sufficient light armor for protection with plenty more pockets in bags or pouches attached to a belt around her waist. She wears boots and some comfortable trousers that are easy to move around in.
Weapon: Two swords
Bio: Sammy has always been a gamer, specifically an RPG gamer. She is about to head to college and decided to relax by going on a gaming spree. What better way to enjoy herself by signing up to be a beta tester for an Aeon game? She had been looking forward to such an MMORPG for a while now. A game so real you may not want to leave it. A world so fantastic the real world seems like a dream. A true escape. Now that she was picked, she couldn't wait to try it. She's not that athletic, and her reflexes are pretty slow.
Personality: Sammy isn't actually all that spirited. Sometimes she'll be happy for a moment, but then that laughing face will return to its normal stoic face. She can find it hard to concentrate on a single assignment without burning out and losing interest rapidly. Her parents have said that it seemed as if she was "broken", since she used to be such a happy-go-lucky kid. Sammy herself has decided that for whatever reason, she couldn't seem to truly care a lot about certain things. She described it as having lost her "fire". Thus she thought it was an appropriate name for her character. Even though her fire may be lost, she can be fairly passionate about some things, such as unfair things happening to children. Sammy can get very emotional.

Weapon: A big book. He's a black mage, so only really uses the book for magic.
Bio: Jake is what you'd call an Aeon fanboy. He loves everything they produce, and was nothing short of ecstatic when he found out he got to beta test their latest game. His opinion of them may just be about to change.
Personality: (basically, he's me.) Jake loves technology and is a very intelligent kid. He's incredibly active on the internet and with technology, but is a little socially recluse in real life. He enjoys playing games of all kinds but fancies playing as mages more than anything else, so when he was able to create his own character, it was obviously a mage.

I may make a hunter later, if that's okay.

I realize I didn't specify this earlier, but I'd prefer that weapons remain nonmagical, that way one player doesn't really have an advantage over another. Everything else is fine though.
Adding that to the rules, and I'm gonna make a thread in the OOC lounge too.

 

Nick waited a bit longer for a response, but still nothing. "Nobody, huh? Aeon must've been pretty picky with who they chose... Dangit, there's no way I could go at this alone..Man, if this freakin' rain would stop, I could put up my posters! Guess there's nothin' I can do." Nick sat down on a bench, closed his eyes and thought. He thought about if a video game was worth all this fuss. "But is it even a game? Or is it some kind of portal to another REAL world..A world that Aeon took...Nah, couldn't be. It's just high-tech stuff. I mean, we had to have seen this coming with the Kinect for the 360 a while back." He thought. "There's something...not right about all this...I can feel it.." He thought. The sound of the rain calmed Nick, enough to the point of dozing off.

 

Sammy breathed out a gasp as she began to hyperventilate a little. Hands shaking, she quickly tried to take off the helmet as best she could without breaking it. Her eyes were wide in disbelief as she continued taking in gulps of air in an adrenaline rush from the game. She had started to break out in a cold sweat as she stared at her hands. These hands, were the same hands that had used those swords to defend herself. These hands had killed. Sammy could even remember the tingle that went through her arm as she delivered the killing blow to those beasts. She felt a little upset about it, since she had never killed anything and have it feel so primal before. Killing bugs was nowhere near killing the beasts in that game. After spending some time mourning the deaths, her mind went back to other aspects of the game. The wind, it felt so real against her face. She could feel the weight of her armor and the items she carried. Sammy could hardly wait to play it again, as she smiled at the thought of entering that world again. However, she suddenly remembered the NPC's warning. He had showed up immediately after she logged in warning her that the game shouldn't be taken so lightly. And she had headed his warning. For the most part. Somehow, she managed to dodge or defend against any attack towards her, leaving herself without a scratch. Thinking on his words, Sammy began to worry a little. What happens if I die? Aeon wouldn't produce a game that harm its consumers, right? That doesn't make any sense. She shook her head to dispel such morbid thoughts as she got ready to take a shower. It would surely calm her nerves so she can think about what to do next.

 

OOC: Since the in game "life" would be like HP, there technically wouldn't be a coma-inducing hit. If you have almost no HP left, then yeah, you're not going to be very strong, but you're still alive. If you die in the game though, you die permanently. I'm also going to work out a way for there to be monster encounters, so if you have any suggestions as to how that works, feel free to post in the OOC thread. Link's on the first post.

Not even the rain could calm Rei's nerves today, so she growled, "Screw it," and got up, deciding to go to the pond. "At least I can take out my frustration there," she thought, hoping there wouldn't be anyone else around to question her behavior.
When she arrived at the small pond, she watched the fish in it for a moment before going closer to the water and picking up a few flat rocks. Taking a deep breath, she threw the first rock as hard as she could and watched it skip across the water several times before it plopped below the water. It made her feel better, throwing things, but she knew throwing anything bigger than what she was would cause problems.

 

Civia didn't want to talk to Joshua, after that practical joke ("haha, you're so gullible, little sis."). It was serious, but Civia couldn't tell her brother that; not at all. He would think her paranoid--she hated people thinking she was paranoid.

"Where are you going, honey?" Her mom called out just as Civia was about to lay her hands on her jacket.

"The park, mom," she paused, "I'll bring an umbrella."

She reached for an umbrella and then her jacket, wearing said clothing in one smooth motion (must be the self-defense classes). Without another word, she opened the door, then the umbrella, closed the door, and stepped out into the rain.

When she reached, she saw a a young man dozing off on a bench in the rain, far away. She immediately broke into a run, slowing down when she was a few feet from the bench. A few more steps and she was right above the man, her blue umbrella covering him. She watched him sleep; studied him, actually. Analyzing. He wore a gray cap and rather new-looking clothes, so she assumed he wasn't of the street. He had a bandanna and a wristband wrapped in a silvery chain of sorts, suggesting a rebellious attitude.

She held her umbrella a bit more over him, bent down, and tapped his shoulder. "Wake up, please."

OOC: I just realized the reference picture of Civia had her only in underwear. XD;; Let's just say she has skinny, dark blue jeans. Sorry.

 

Alex shook his head as he felt someone tap him. Staring through the rain, he saw a girl standing up next to him. He smiled. 'That was sweet of her to wake me up,' he thought. He quickly took out his I-pod Touch and shut the music off, not failing to put it back in his pocket. "Why don't you have a seat next to me?" Alex sweetly said. Because his headphones and I-pod were in his pocket, he decided to take off his hood and soon enough his hair was soaked. Before the girl could answer, Alex said, "Wait, hold on a sec please." He got up and walked over to the pond, where this girl (who was much older than he was) was skipping rocks onto the pond's surface. He didn't say anything; instead he looked to see if the koi fish were getting frightened or bothered by the rocks. They acted just as they did with the rain, completely normal. Alex tapped the girl on the shoulder and timidly said, "Hello."

 

OOC: Were you referring to me, Sufris? because I think AndrewTemari answered Civia's tap on the shoulder, and after looking over how our real-world characters look, Nick fits the description more than Alex does. Either that or I just misunderstood his post. Just making sure before I answer a tap on the shoulder that wasn't given to me.

 

Rei stopped mid-throw. Looking over her shoulder at the boy, she said, "...Do I know you?"
Ordinarily she wouldn't be as distant, but her frustration was still there. While she waited for the boy to reply, she continued skipping rocks.

 

"Uhhhh...nope!" Alex said. "I don't think we've met. I'm Alex!" Before the girl could reply, he casually asked, "Have you ever played that new RPG adventure video game that Aeon released?" He couldn't believe he asked that question. 'She'll probably think I'm crazy or something. Alex thought.

 

As Rai was nearing the park, he noticed that there were a few more people here than he thought there would be. I doubt that any of them are beta testers, he thought, laughing to himself a bit. He walked over to a tree over near the pond and sat down underneath it, trying to calm himself.

 

The boy's sudden question made Rei throw the next rock in her hand harder than she intended, causing it to drop forcefully right into the water.
"So you've played it too, I take it," she said, not sure how else to reply. At this point she stopped throwing rocks, choosing instead to put her hands in her pockets and turned to actually face the younger boy.

 

Nick felt a light tap on his shoulder, "Huh? Whozzat?" He looked up to see a tall girl with long blonde(?) hair looking at her. He then stood up to properly look at the girl. "Oh, sorry.." He stretched, "Need Something?" he asked. Deep down he hoped that the girl would say something about Aeon's game.

 

Sammy had finished her shower and stepped out of the bathroom refreshed. She was shaking as much and was relatively calm. It was far too early to go to bed, but she was tired and going to sleep when it was raining was always calming for her. The rain seemed to lull her to sleep more easily than going to sleep normally. Besides, who would go out in such dreary weather? Heh, only weird people who don't mind getting wet for whatever reason would. That, or depressed people. Putting on her sleeping clothes, she closed her bedroom door and retired for the day.

 

OOC: I will assume. XD;; And yes, yes, it was meant for you.

Civia blinked a few times at the other boy who went to the koi pond before turning back to the boy she was tapping. Maybe I accidentally hit him or something..., she thought idly, before replying to the...younger boy?

"Oh, no. It's just sad to see someone here all alone, in the rain. You could get sick." She smiled. "Something on your mind?" She pushed blonde locks away from her eyes before analyzing him again. He looked someone who would go by the name...Ken, or like her brother, Joshua. Or something else entirely. "What's your name, by the way?"

 

Having had a soda and used the toilet, Leon returned to the room where he had the game set up. "I'll give this another shot", he said as he turned the machine on, equip the VR gear and loaded the game. He was thrust into the virtual world back at the place he left. Getting used to being his character for a moment he took off to find some monsters to get the hang of combat, if it was going to be literal life and death he might as well make sure he doesn't suck.
