No Thanks Video Aspect Ratio

Hey, just thought it would be a nice idea if the KH videos in the video archive came in [a] different aspect ratio.

The reason I bring this up is because I have been trying to make AMVs using videos from several sources. But the problem is that the different aspect ratios make it look odd. Now, I enjoy the current aspect ratio for viewing (it has a movie sense about it), but I believe there should be at least another, one where it is full screen. I find that full screen is easier to work with when doing AMVs, such as those used at Blue Laguna. I've been tediously and rather frustratingly trying to get a program where the KHV videos can be cropped and resized, but to no avail.

I realize this is a heavy suggestion and it technically does not involve the forums, but it certainly would be very nice.

I've just noticed that my reputation is down. I don't particularly care about reputation, but I was curious to see why it was lowered. And when I saw it... errr... yeaaahh...

One strike because someone didn't like my opinion that Xaldin is stronger than Vexen.

Another because I was being bluntly truthful that there is no actual KH1 camera mod for KH2 (which is correct).

... Now that's just ridiculous. The only thing motivating those two are spoiled superiority.

I propose that transitions in reputation are submitted for review BEFORE they change someone's reputation. On other words, the change is automatically sent to a mod or staff member, who can accept or deny it.

 

First Suggestion.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean but if you mean that the video doesn't show fullscreen on WMP then all you have to do is click the fullscreen button ^_^.

Second Suggestion.

Do you know how much time it would take if all rep was subject to review? DAYS. If you have a problen or you think someone flamed you using rep then PM a mod.

 

First suggestion: Oh yeah. I had the same problem with the whole black bar thing when doing AMVs. However, I don't think this suggestion is really needed. You either use the vids from here or you use the ones over at the other site. It'd take awhile for the videos here to be re-rendered into fullscreen ratio and it'd probably take up a bit more server space than necessary. Not to mention if you use the ones from here now, it's pretty obvious where you got the source material to make whatever. :huh:

Besides, it's almost like KH-vids' watermark. They're the only videos that have the widescreen section if you use WMM.

Second point: Yeah, the fine print on the reputation thread in the Forum Assistance forum says that if you believe you're being flamed via reputation system to PM a mod to deal with it.

 

1st: Yeah, it would take up the space, but it would nonetheless be useful. I understand though. The problem with getting them from other sites is that they don't have Re:CoM and FM...

2nd: I doubt I ever will, I just threw that in there simply because I was curious for the response. I don't care enough about reputation to do anything about it, I just don't believe in it either, even if, more the most part, it's an accurate representation.

If you ever become interested in resizing these videos with letterboxes, KH plays their videos at an aspect ratio of 3:2.

 

I don't know much about the KHV Videos...So I wont comment on that one

The second suggestion though, Everyone gets de-repped for stupid reasons. I mean, I got de-repped once for making a RPG character and missing out on the smallest thing.
Like other people have said, If you really think Its unfair, PM a Staff member. Other then that, I guess you'll have to deal with It.

 

First Suggestion: I do see what you mean and it would be nice if they had the space to accommodate such a request. That would be something though that would be up to the site people and those who work on the videos. So, hard to say yay or nay to it.

Second Suggestion: Rep is a funny thing. I don't know a person who hasn't been de-repped for something that there is no cause at all meriting it, including myself a few times. It has been brought up numerous times to be fixed in some way and the only way I see it being altered without removing it seriously is to just make de-rep and repping non-anonymous. I do not understand why people are against doing this, but it would stop these people from just de-repping whoever for no reason other than 'I don't like you today'. I've never de-repped anyone on this board but I can say if I was going to, I'd want the person to know why and that I did it. There would be a solid reason behind the de-repping such as the person was horribly rude, obnoxious or just being a dork out for attention hounding and well, that is what we are supposed to be using it for, right? If people can't own up to de-repping someone, they shouldn't have the power to do it.

As the rules stand now though, if you believe you are de-repped unfairly, as others said, PM an admin or mod to check into it. I swear though the only reason rep is so important is because people keep abusing the de-rep option and others get upset about it. It's something that will either improve or we just have to suck it up and say that it's the way it is, even if probably most of the people on this board have been de-repped for no reason at all and we don't care to bother the admins with it.

 

Different aspect ratios? There are only 2 commonly used aspect ratios, which are 16:9 and 4:3, and if the video was captured under one of those, and changed to the other, outcome wouldn't be too pretty..

Edit: When you watch a video in the gallery, it's not in a different aspect ratio. It's using a letterbox format, which just cuts the video at the top and bottom. Changing aspect ratios is completely different.

 

First Suggestion: Not really needed... It would take a very long time. But if you want to crop the black bars out yourself, a program called Wax can do that. I did about four of them when I was still into AMV making, so if you want I can send you them over a messenger. ^^

Second Suggestion: I'll look at that for you.

Second, well if you feel flamed or abused by the repsystem or any other thing on the site contact a staff member instead of making a thread or showing it in public. For future referance, talking out loud about your own rep our somebody else's isn't allowed. Also unfortunately we can not approve each single rep given since the site has loads of members who get repped everyday. We simply wouldn't make it.
