when terra says what have you done to his heart i think he is talking about ven.
the heart is used to create Vanitas and when he asks to be erased it is to destroy Vanitas

Vanity also means hollow, empty and things like that, so maybe.
And i'm almost sure he's related to Ven, i mean look at their names, it's almost the same thing.

 

5 bucks Vanitas looks EXACTLY like Sora, or something DISTURBINGLY similar to Sora.

 

I'm betting he looks kinda like Riku.

also for him looking like sora it could be possible since there is a slight brown colour seen through the top of the helmet

 

I not gona speculate but I think that Vanitas might have some connection but I hope they dont remove the helmet I think it adds to the mystery of what he looks like It would look creepy if he lookes similer

well, all i know is that vanitas has the same moves as dark riku, same posture and almost similar keyblade so you would assume that later on, vanitas takes over riku in kingdom hearts 1. BTW, Vanitas' name in latin means emptiness. Also, there may still be a connection between Sora, roxas and ventus. Terra and Xemnas have a strange resemblance to each other and some of the previous Organization XIII members have met ventus in their previous life (Vexen, Lexius and Xaldin). In 358/2 days, Xigbar and Xemnas both momentarily have flashbacks of Ven when interacting with Xion, as well as when Axel, Xion, and Xigbar are on on a mission in Wonderland. Xion turns on Xigbar, and he sees her in the form of Ven.

So i seriously doubt that vanitas has the looks of sora or riku because they came in later on.

 

Here's my theory.

In one of the trailers, Ven asks somebody to erase him. They are in Destiny Islands, if I believe. Sora and Riku are nearby, and when whoever erases Ven does it, somehow, his spirit winds up in Sora. And that is how he can wield the Keyblade and why Roxas looks like Ven. But what of Riku?

Well, another theory in here says that Ven and Vanitas's hearts are connected. When Ven is erased, Vanitas might have been nearby, and was erased as well, and, somehow, his spirit ends up in Riku, giving them similarities and the ability to wield the Keyblade. AND that explains how Riku's Dark Mode in KH1/CoM looks like Vanitas.

that could of happened ven's heart going into sora then released with kairi's instead of his own and vanitas's heart going into riku but i highly doubt it

Riku tried to mirror Sora by having a keyblade and wanting power, so i saw it as another Sora/Riku instance. Also keeping to the fact Vanitas shows some striking resemblance to Riku even their battle stances are the same

 

Well, I wouldn't call Vanitas a form of Riku. I bet when Terra said "What have you done to his heart?!" I think Xehanort might've cloned Ven's heart and turned it into darkness. I remember a scene where I came up with this theory in the Olympus Colosseum, where Xehanort made Ven, freeze or something. I think that is where he cloned the heart, turning it into Vanitas.

 

I think that Vanitas is the Xehanort that was Ansem the Wise's apprentice. I mean it fits, right. "Xehanort" appears out of nowhere after the events of KH:BBS, and all he remembers is "his" name. Master Xehanort is (at some point) saying "defeat the darkness" and "correct his mistake" while gesturing toward Vanitas. This could mean that MX "defeated the darkness" and "corrected his mistake" by destroying Vanitas' memory. MX probably thought that this would destroy the darkness within Vanitas, even though ones true nature can never be changed (like when Sora became a heartless). Vanitas might have then destroyed MX (or destroying Vanitas' memory took too much of MX's power) while keeping the memory of the name "Xehanort".

 

Hmmm I literally have never thought of that. Vanitas could be Apprentics Xehanort??? Well lets look at it.

It does make a little bit of sense. I would like to see others expand on his theory. I personally think terra is apprentice xehanort butnow that you bring it up vanitas could be xehanort as well.
Expand you theory as how vanitas connects with the rest of the plot of the story in kh2fm. If xehanort was vanitas. Maybe something to back this up is that MX had DS(vanitas) under his control as an apprentice and somwhere in bbs (maybe wen kh is shown) he loses the darkness controlling him where ansem finds him, ... and the plot continues as you know. Its much like the terra theory.

TBH i don't think it's true. But we still have to speculate these things to show that they are important in finding the truth. I would like to hear more about this. Terra = apprentice xehanort FTW.
