"Careful," Van Helsing muttered, though a smile still stuck to his face. "You won't still say that when I can hear your thoughts..."

 

"Hear my thoughts?" Jinx asked, "I hope you can never do that, it might scare you too much." she had a confident expression on.

 

"I'm not." Hannah said, for one not denying it. "Don't come with me next time...."

 

"I haven't yet," Van Helsing smirked. "I don't want to yet... no reason."

 

"What did he do to you?" Edward asked, unable to stop himself. He shifted his back, the pain now fluctating from unbearable to a little twinge. He tried to hide his groan.

 

"You can't read my mind." Jinx said, although after learning that he was old enough to fight with the old Romeans, she couldn't be completly sure. "You're just trying to make me nervous." she finished, trying to sound cofident, still.

 

"Maybe," Van Helsing muttered. "I could just argue instead..."

 

"You're the one who's hurt." Hannah objected, more half awake than half asleep now, drawing the attention off herself. "I should be asking you that."

 

Jinx looked him directly in the eyes, "You can't read minds, right? Because then you wouldn't have to listen so hard to hear Edward and Hannah talking." she sat back, looking straight ahead and smiling. "I hope anyway."

 

"I can sometimes," he confirmed. "It comes and goes... and I couldlisten as clear as a bell if I wanted to, but I'm not that rude; they deserve to talk in private a bit."

 

"I'm fine," Edward said, finally shifting into a position that was slightly comfortable. "He didn't physically injure me too much... don't worry."

 

Tell her all about me if she asks, Lestat interjected in Edward's mind. He wished he could have heard the man cry out in pain. He could feel the connection going away as their carriages traveled, and that was the last bit he could send before the channel broke.

 

"Well, that's gentlemanly of you." Jinx said, approvingly. "Odd skill, but usefull I'll bet." she wasn't sure she liked that both he and Edward could hear thoughts, it was one of the skills she'd always found creepy, but both of them weren't stupid about it, she thought.

 

"Too much?" Hannah noticed she was lying on Edward. "Do you want me to move?" She asked.

 

'I try," Van Helsing sighed. "I don't mean to bother you with that fact, either. I won't be inside your head all the time."

 

"Oh, no," Edward tried to laugh immediately. It made the scratch on his abs burn even though it was shallow and small. "You're perfect where you are... although I do have some questions in my head for you."

 

Are you tracking them? Lestat tried sending to John, not knowing how far away he was or if he should talk to the vampire yet.

 

"All the time?" Jinx asked, "Thanks, that makes me feel so safe." she laughed, saracam in her voice as usual. "It doesn't bother me, seriously. I know you'll say out of my mind." she said, earnestly.

 

"Do I have to answer?" Hannah tried to keep the reluctance out of her voice.

 

"How do you think they're doing?" Van Helsing asked after a moment. "They're talking very quietly, aren't they?"
