Van Helsing

"Older than I even know," Van Helsing replied, a small smirk on his face. "It's hard to explain since I don't remember much; just cut up, random dreams sometimes..."

 

"Aw, I thought older than you." Jinx complained, but she smiled and went on to her next question. "What will you do when we actully kill Dracula?"

 

Hannah's eyes shot open; her breathing fast, close to hyperventalation.. She took in where she was and who she was with and shut her eyes tightly.Please, John... I'll go! Just stop....

 

"I don't know," Van Helsing replied honestly. "Go on to wherever else the Order sends me, I guess... why?"

 

"Hannah!" Edward tried again, shaking her more harshly. He could see the pain in her eyes. "What's wrong? Talk to me, please--" he cut himself off, wincing from the pain in his back.

 

"Just wondering." Jinx replied, shrugging. "Last question, for now. What is your favorite color?" she asked, her face completely serious.

 

"Black, I would guess," Van Helsing replied, trying not to laugh at her serious expression. "Another why is coming to mind, though."

 

Jinx let her serious expression die and smiled. "Colors say alot about people." she explained, "For example, black is very basic, it isn't actully any color at all, it is the absence of color. That says something about you." she smirked. "I'll let you know when I figure out what it means."

 

Hannah opened her eyes cautiously. "Edward....?" She looked around again, trying to decide if it was real or more of John's tricks.

 

"Well, thank you for that, dear," Van Helsing smiled. "Very random and odd, but thank you anyway."

 

"It's me," Edward replied quickly, laughing with relief through his pain. "I'm right here, dear, just stay awake for me."

 

"Don't thank me yet, it might not be a compliment. I said I'd tell you when I knew." Jinx replied, and then laughed quietly. "Well, that's it for my questions. Thanks for answering them."

 

Suddenly Claudia's voice came into Lestat's head... the night he and Louis had turned her, much a young little girl...

"Where's mama?" she had asked, her newly pink cheeks shiny.

"Mama..." Lestat had begun, thinking, full of triumph at her turning. "Mama has gone to heaven, Chérie, like that sweet lady right there. They all go to heaven."

But Louis had ruined the moment, as usual, saying: "All but us.'

"Shh," Lestat had chided him. "Do you want to frighten our little daughter?"

And Claudia, the smart little monster she was, retorted, "I'm not your daughter."

"Oh, yes, you are," Lestat had argued sweetly. "You're mine and Louis' daughter now. You see, Louis was going to leave us, he was going to go away, but now he's not. Now, he's going to stay and make you happy.

He had grinned maliciously, and Claudia's face lit up, and she proclaimed in the most innocent voice, "Louis!" And jumped up to cuddle close him in his lap.

Louis had glared at me, knowing what he'd done, his eyes pitch black and gold combined as he glared death at me over her sweet little head. "You fiend," he had growled.

Lestat only smiled, leaning back on the bed with the most satisfied look in the word on his face. "One happy family."

 

"My pleasure," Van Helsing muttered, trying his best to listen for Edward with no luck

 

Jinx noticed him straining to hear them. "You have such weak hearing." she sighed, "She just woke up and he's trying to comfort her." she explained, letting it lay at that.

 

"I can't," Hannah murmured, her eyes closing again. She cuddled closer to Edward, only half aware of what she would see if she fell back asleep.

 

"I knew that," Van Helsing pouted. "And I have more than decent hearing... it's just the wind..."

 

"Sleep if you must," Edward began, stroking her hair. "Just tell me you're alright before you pass out again."

 

"Deaf." Jinx replied, cheerfully. She laughed at his pout.

 

Lestat laughed aloud, remembering Edward's stubborness...

"Are all monsters like that? Stubborn against what they really are?" he muttered aloud.

Feed on what you will, He remembered telling Louis. Rats, chickens, poodles, I'll leave you to it and watch you come around. But just remember, life without me would be even more unbearable.
