Hannah was quiet for a moment, thinking. "I guess so. I don't have a lot of experience with these things."

 

"You think I do?" Edward replied, a little shocked. "And I know it's hard for you," he added, his voice now a whisper again. "But please believe me it's not... uncomplicated for me, either."

 

Hannah broke away from Edward's eyes. "I'm going into my fourth month of this," She mumbled. "Normal newborns would have killed two dozen people by this point." She hesitated. "I've only done what I absolutely have to...." She couldn't bring herself to look back up. "How long has it been for you?"

6. History: Lestat does not have much known about him. He was turned in Paris by a French vampire, and later traveled to New Orleans. He has known many others of his kind, and is well known for his brutal sadistic forms of seducing, leading, and then killing his victims. He does have a lonely, handsome heart under all of his gory ways of life. As many say: "Lestat: loved by everyone!"

"Since I was six," Edward spoke. "When Dracula turned my entire family into... well, what we are. Do you realize..." he faded, unwanted, unexpected emotion coming up in his throat. He cleared and then tried to smile. "You realize that the last werewolf left Van Helsing and Carl want to kill before we get to Dracula is my baby sister, right?"

 

Hannah's eyes widened. "That was... those were... I... Oh God, Edward, I'm sorry."

"She's not my sister anymore," Edward murmured, trying to convince himself. His grip on Hannah loosened as he thought. "The rest are dead... you were there when he shot them, he told me..."

 

Lestat walked alone in the forest, his shined boots barely touching the ground that was covered in mud. His black eyes glittered in the late afternoon sun. He straightened his silver vest, ruffled shirt, and laced sleeves, throwing back his mane of curling, blonde hair in the slight breeze.

What a lovely evening, he thought to himself, grinning to the trees.

"I'm not sorry, dear," he muttered aloud suddenly, his silky, seductive voice light enough to play with the breeze down to the body on the floor by his feet. "You shouldn't wander out on walks alone away from the city this late in the afternoon. Pity..."

The body of the girl was slumped back against a tree, one sleeve of her dress torn down, visible, swollen bite marks on her shoulder, wrist, and neck. Her red hair was strewn across her face, her white dress dirty and ruined by the mud in the forest.

Lestat sighed, smiling to himself, recalling the sweet taste of her blood, and licked his lips, the shadow of the flabor still there.

Now, he sighed in his mind, turning to start a delicate, gentlemanly stroll toward the city. What shall I do with the upcoming night? The trees leave me a decent cover till the blasted sun goes down... then the fun begins.

 

Beatrice made her way to Van Helsing, Jinx, and Carl. She smiled at them, going to Sorin. "You're going to do wonderfully." She assured the gelding. "Just think of it as a bigger farm tool." She fixed his forelock and gazed into his eyes. Sorin nibbled the bottom of Beatrice's shirt. "Stop that," Beatrice giggled, removing Sorin's teeth from the shirt. "You're the one that should be nervous. I am the one that's going to be holding the reigns."

Hannah broke away from Edward, collapsing onto the bed. "Edward, I didn't... Well if I'd known.... I..." Tears flooded her eyes. "I'm really sorry...."

 

"No," Edward muttered, now angry with himself that he'd said anything. "Look," he began, going over to Hannah and, smiling, picked her up off the bed and sat down again with her in his lap. "It's okay. I don't want you to blame yourself. Understand?" He caught her chin and made her look at him. "Promise me you won't feel bad. Believe me, that the last thing we both need."

 

"So Beatrice," Van Helsing asked. "I don't mean to sound rude but, what in Jesus Christ's name are those two doing in the God d.amned room?"

 

"Talking," Beatrice replied, still stroking Sorin. "I don't know what about or why they're taking so long." She kissed Sorin's nose and then climbed up into the seat to reign the carriage.

Hannah's tears escaped her eyes. "But I...."

"My my, that was extensive." John muttered from behind Lestat.

 

"Sorry," Van Helsing muttered. "It isn't even nightfall yet anyway; I should stop rushing them because God knows that this will be easier if they're on better terms..."

 

"Stop it," Edward demanded quietly, rubbing her back and running his fingers lightly over the bandaging around her torso. "No crying... how's your unnaturally-fast healing process coming along, dear?"

 

Lestat chuckled, turning to see the other man. "I would have shared if you didn't just sulk in the shadows the whole time," he spoke, unable to stop himself from flicking his tongue slowly across his long canines oncemore. "I've had better, though."

 

John smirked. "I'm sure of it. From the eyes of my little dove," He laughed quietly at the pet name. "There is quite the delicacy in the city. Unfortunately, that's a boundary I'd rather not cross. But seeing as whatever caused my dove to... get excited," His smirk widened. "Will be following them, I don't I'll have to. There was a strong scent of blood a couple hours back, but that's wasted by now."

"F-fine, I think. It hurts less now." Hannah answered, her voice unsteady from her tears.

"I guess that's true." Beatrice looked over at Van Helsing. "This is a bit odd to ask but... what do I smell like to you?"

 

"To me?" Van Helsing repeated. "Well, unfortunately, I do not have a heightened or special sense of smell. You smell to me just like any random person in the streets would smell. But," he added, not wanting to sound incompetent, "I do have excellent hearing... though not as well as you, dear," he finished, inclining his head to Jinx.

 

"Am I helping at all?" Edward asked, pushing his forehead against hers. "I'd like to sit next to you in one of the carriages, if you don't mind."

 

"Hmm," Lestat murmured, running a perfectly manicured hand through his sweeping hair. "Interesting..."

He faded off, looking up into the sky. "The sun should set in an hour at the most," he began again, pulling a shining, silver pocketwatch out of his vest. "Since Merciful Death does not dwell in Rome, that will be the time we can visit your pet then. Although..." he added, thinking once more, "if she has companions and they've already spilled blood, I'd think you can go alone. I will wait till they've traveled to their destination."

 

"Oh. Okay." Beatrice contented herself with the answer, turning back to look at Sorin.

"Yes, you're helping." Hannah answered, smiling again. "Your hand is warm and-" She stopped herself, embarrassed at what she'd said.

John thought about that for a moment. "May I ask what brought you here?" He asked instead of pressing the issue.
