Van Helsing

Hannah didn't move. "You might as well. I really don't want to do this."

 

"Yes, that is not the category I would ever place you in, dear," Van Helsing muttered. "And, Carl... there's something else you shoud know..."

 

"Take your time," Edward said, standing from the bed and, not really thinking, leaned down to kiss her forehead gently. "I'll be back in a little bit."

He walked over to the door that led into the small bathroom and shut the door behind him, sighing when he saw the faucet and the cold, clean water that would come from it.

 

Carl looked at him, sencing something serious in Van Helsing's voice. "What is it?"

Jinx looked at him too, curious as to what Carl hadn't been told now.

 

Van Helsing mentally slapped himself, angry he had let his last sentence slip through his laughter. I don't think Edward wants me to tell them yet... it is up to him... and I need to ask him what he did this afternoon, where he was...

"Nothing," Van Helsing spoke aloud. "Just slipped my mind..."

 

Jinx crossed her arms and blew a strand of hair out of her eyes. "Well that was anti climatic."

Carl shook his head. "Alright. You'll tell me later." he said, it was a statement, not a question. He knew Van Helsing too well to ask him now.

 

If Hannah hadn't been so focused on the smell of blood, she might have had a decent reaction to Edward's unexpected action. She restrained herself until she was sure Edward wouldn't hear her.
Standing from the bed, she walked over to the deer next to the bed, kneeling next to it and placing her ear by its neck. There was still a faint pulse coursing raggedly, and she sighed. If I had waited any longer it could have been dead and then I wouldn't be able to say no to Edward...

Hannah swallowed, being able to hear the blood running slowly through the animals veins and the smell still strong through its coarse skin was almost more than enough for her. She shut her eyes, and when they opened they were a dark, molten shade of gold. She could feel her fingernails elongating, growing stronger on the tips of her hands, her teeth sharpening against her gums and the inside of her mouth. Unable to stand it any longer, she dug her nails deep into the furry flesh of the deer's throat, ripping up a large enough hole for her mouth. Blood began to pour out of the animal's throat in heavy, uneven gushes now, it's main trachea and arteries severed in deep gashes.

Hannah sank her teeth fast into the wound, keeping her eyes shut tight. Immediately the blood flow stopped pooling over the dying animal's neck and into her mouth, over her teeth, down her throat... it was the most wonderful sensation in the world, feeling life in a salty, thick, honey-like texture slide back into her veins, her heart, her soul. She could feel her cheeks begin to gain color again, her skin shading back to a healthy, pale pink. She could hear the deer's heartbeat crying, shrieking in her ears as she drank, and then it began to slow. Hannah would have groaned if she could, not wanting to stop, but knowing she had to. Her throat became thick as she swallowed harder, trying to get all she could from the animal before it's pulse finally...

Stopped. Hannah let go of the deer's ripped throat, gasping. Tendrils of blood streaked down her chin, the corners of her mouth, and her throat. She didn't bother to wipe them away, the feeling of fresh blood in her veins enough to keep her still, enjoying the moment where she always felt the closest to being human again. She looked down at the animal, not intending for it to really register in her newly resharpened vision. The blood pooling on the floor was thick, and she quickly reached up to the bed, pulled off one of the small blankets, and wiped it up the best she could. Then, with all her strength,she shoved the deer's carcass under the nearest bed.

Let the inn staff find that after we go, she thought, a little surprised at her own dark cruelty. Van Helsing will get a kick out of that one...

She could hear Edward turn off the water in the bathroom now, and she got up from the floor, shaking her head slightly as all the blood rushed to not just her head but every other inch of her body.

Edward turned on the faucets as hard as he could, happily stripping off all of his dirty clothes. I can't wash them in enough time, he thought, stepping under the cool water and sighing. At least... yes, I can wash my shirt. That will do me some good...

Edward took his time, enjoying the water and letting Hannah do what she must, giving her enough time. He finally stepped out of the water, dried off, slipped back into his pants and boots, and then grabbed his shirt. He placed it under the water, letting all the dirt and sweat run off it as best as he coud. The rough, small bar of soap didn't help much. Edward drained all the water out of his shirt, turned the faucet off, and shook it out as best as he could. It won't be dry for a while... he thought. Well, Hannah will have to deal with no shirt and some muscles to look at for a little bit... He smirked to himself as he shook out his hair and ran a hand through it in the mirror.

Edward smiled at himself and then opened the bathroom door.

BIC: Hannah looked over at Edward, ecstatic and shameful at the same time. She instantly looked away, clearing herself of the blood on her face, her cheeks flushed. I do not believe what I'm seeing. Carefully, she looked back at him. Not that I don't like it.... One blush blended into the next when she realized Edward could hear that.

 

"Sorry," Van Helsing muttered. "I just... I'll tell you both later if that's alright with... with Edward."

 

Edward smirked at her thoughts, knowing there was no way to pretend he hadn't heard her.

"Thank you," he chuckled, playfully throwing his damp shirt at her. "Look at you!" he exclaimed, smiling. "That's quite the color in your skin!" He touched the side of her pink cheek. "I would never guess you were anything but a cute, human girl if I didn't know any better."

 

Jinx suddenly understood and was also suddenly grateful for Edward that Van Helsing had remembered to shut his mouth. "Oh, alright." she sighed, sounding the same as before. "Anyway, what now? I mean you said we should get ready while we wait, but there isn't anything to pack or whatever..."

Carl shrugged, "How about we talk seating arrangments?" he offered.

 

Hannah lowered her head. "Thanks," She said softly. "We should go now...."

 

"Nope, nothing to pack unless you've got some personal stuff like Carl said," Van Helsing replied. "They will be down soon... or we're going anyway. As for seaitn arrangements," he said, looking at Carl. "You can choose wherever you like. I know Edward and Hannah will want to sit together, and Beatrice would certainly like to lead the other horses, I think. You can sit in the carriage with your things and Jinx, or either of you can sit on top with me. It's up to you."

 

Edward grinned. "Not yet," he whispered, grabbing her shoulders and pulling her close to him. "We've got to sit in a cramped, bumpy carriage for hours with obnoxious people, and you're suddenly in a hurry to go? Are you angry with me?"

 

Jinx spread her arms out, "What things?" she asked, smiling, letting her arms drop to her side again. "Hm, let's see. Sit in a cramped, hot, carrige, or ride ontop. I'll sit up front if it's okay with you. I don't like small spaces."

Carl looked away from the two. Jinx's reason made alot of sence, sure... but still.

 

Van Helsing grinned. "Great. Sorry, Carl," he added, even as the friar turned away. "You seemed to have gotten dismissed to carriage full of belongings..."

 

Carl smiled at his friend, "Ah, it's fine. I can make sure all my equipment is good for the fights ahead and such. Besides, I've got a good book or two as well. No problem."

"'you sure Carl?" Jinx asked, trying to be polite even though she really did hate the idea of being in a carrige for hours instead of being outside. "If you guys need to discuss things about killing Dracula and whatever, I don't mind being in the thing."

Carl waved a hand at her, "naw, it's fine. You'd hate it, and I dont' mind at all." he smiled at her and she nodded.

 

"You two are so sweet!" Van Helsing teased, thumping Carl's shoulder. He walked over to Lexi and Sorin's carriage and jumped up into the driver's seat, grabbing the reigns.

"This thing is leaving soon," he announced as if he had a crowd waiting for rides. "Edward and Hannah shall be down soon, I'm sure. I won't desert them," he added, reassuring Carl.

 

Carl choaked back a laugh, while Jinx rolled her eyes with a fake pout on her lips.

"Alright." Carl nodded, still choaking a little and climbing into the luggage carrige.

Jinx jumped swiftly up next to Van Helsing. "Sweet, eh? Don't be rude." she laughed and hopped up to sit ontop of the carriage while they waited for Hannah, Edward, and Beatice
