Van Helsing

"You're very pale, though," Edward noticed, burshing a strand of hair off her white cheek. "Like you haven't eaten enough..."

 

Carl woke with a start at some noise he didn't quite register. "Oops!" he started, jumping up. He brushed the paper stuck to his cheek off and ran around the room, picking up everything he'd gotten together before. He bolted down the stairs, almost running over the monk who was coming up to get him. "Sorry sorry! God bless you, see you later!" he called to the stunned man. He soon came to the stables, "H, h, hi." he gasped to Van Helsing, grinning foolishly.

 

Hannah's jaw tightened. "I'm not worried about that...." Though she had noticed herself that was a bit too white. "I'll try Jinx's way soon I guess...." She opened her eyes to look at Edward.

 

"No rush, Carl," Van Helsing smiled. "Take a pick of a carriage and put your things whever you wish. Take that team of horses, and I'll guide with Lexi behind you."

"Oh," he added a moment later. "And you didn't miss much this afternoon."

 

"I..." Edward began, unsure. "I can get you something, since you're in no shape to get up and go out. I bet... something would help you feel better and get stronger faster."

 

Hannah smiled softly. "No, Edward. You don't have to. I don't want to make you do that; it's really unpleasant."

 

"You saw me rip out throats from live creatures," Edward replied softly. "I think I can deal with unpleasant if I must. Plus..." he paused, laughing. "I want to help you."

 

Carl chose a carrige, throwing his things inside. He lead the horses outside the stables, "So, where are our friends?" he asked.

Jinx cracked her neck and stood up, knowing everyone would be wanting to go soon. She walked back to the stables, already sure that the blood would not be as tempting. "Hey Carl." she greeted him, "I see we're getting ready to go?" she asked both of them.

 

"You've done enough," Hannah assured him. "And besides, I'm really not up to... you know...."

 

"Correct me if I'm completely wrong," Edward began nonetheless, "but wouldn't... drinking something make you stronger and better?"

 

Van Helsing nodded at Jinx, jumping into the driver's seat of the carriage that Lexi was pulling. "Carl, you lead, and Lex and I shall follow. Jinx, if you want to jump up here it'd be easier than running the rest of the way back to Sorin and Beatrice in the other stables."

 

"Well, actully it'd be slower." Jinx pointed out, but she jumped up anyway.

Carl smirked at Van helsing and climbed up to his seat, moving the carrige towards the inn while Van Helsing's followed.

 

Hannah sighed. "You're right.... But that doesn't mean I'll do it." She added stubbornly.

Beatrice came in the room quietly, afraid she might disturb Hannah if she was still sleeping. She held a jet black cloak, an apologetic smile on her face. "Sorry," She said for walking in on Edward and Hannah. "I- I thought you could use a new one." She gestured to the cloak.

 

"You don't have to do anything," Edward whispered to her, and then turned to Beatrice. "Well, that's very nice of you!" he said, taking the cloak and laying it next to Hannah.

 

"Ah, I couldn't take the smell." Jinx admitted, "I just needed some fresh air." she explained, shrugging. "So, where are we headed after we pick everyone up?"

 

"Ah, I see," Van Helsing replied. "Well, as for leaving, which the plan when we get to the stables, I guess now it's up to Hannah and how well she feels. But, regardless if she is in perfect condition again by nightfall or not, we need to leave by then. It's not good for me, or any of you, probably, to stay in one place this long. You know what I mean?"

 

"Yeah, too many dead bodies and we might get noticed." Jinx smiled. "And I'm sure it doesn't take too long for people to get suspisious of the infamous Van Helsing hanging around. I'll bet if you are in one place to long people start looking for monsters."

 

"Thanks." Hannah closed her eyes. "I'm sorry you had to see that."

"It's okay." Beatrice said after a moment. "I'm sure it... bothered you more."

Hannah smiled wryly. "I'll live."

 

Van Helsing laughed, nodding his head. "You're right. Do you think Hannah will be well enough to travel by the time the sun goes down?"

 

"For now," Edward muttered. "You'll need to eat something soon, and I'll still be here if you need help."

"Can Sorin pull a carriage with Lexi?" Edward asked, looking at Beatrice once more.
