Van Helsing

Jinx stood where she was, still unwilling to go near the blood that was still spreading. Something was different about Hannah's blood, it wasn't strong enough to be like her singers (whoever that might be) but it was stronger than anything she had seen in a long time.

 

Van Helsing pulled his bandages toward him and began to wrap them around Hannah, completely surrounding her waist. He tied the knot a few inches below the bullethole, and pulled her shirt down, sighing.

"She should wake soon," he began, wiping his forehead and sheathing the small knife. "And then she'll be fine."

 

"Should we move her to the room, and move, eh, him, before all of this attracts attention?" Jinx suggested, hoarsly.

 

"That'd be a good idea... And once Carl is ready, we should go." Beatrice said. "I think we should get a carriage too; it'd be easier.""

 

Edward stepped forward, unable to not to anything for another second longer. He gathered Hannah carefully in his arms, resting her head against his shoulder.

"I've got her," he said when Van Helsing stepped forward. Thank you, he thought, hoping Van Helsing could hear him right now. The man's smile was enough.

Edward headed toward the inn once more, his mind blazing. "Jinx," he said over his shoulder. "Is there anything else we can do... something that would help her get better faster?"

 

"You can go," Van Helsing said to Beatrice. "I will get that carriage and meet you all back here before nightfall."

 

Jinx hadn't moved. "I don't think so... she'll heal herself as fast as her body can take it..." she answered Edward, staring ahead. She suddenly rememberd she was holding Van Helsing's trench cloak. "Oh, here." she handed it to him vaguely.

 

Beatrice nodded and went back outside to where Lexi and Sorin were grazing.

Hannah felt movement. "Edward...."

 

"Thanks," Van Helsing said, grinned at her, and then turned to go over to Lexi as the other three left.

"Okay, girl," he whispered to her, rubbing her nose. He smiled. "Ready to go find a nice carriage to pull around?"

 

Edward jumped slgithly in his step. He looked down at her, smiling and holding her head close to him. "Don't move," he whispered. "Van Helsing got the bullet out. We're almost up to the room so you can lay down for a little."

 

Jinx stood comepetly still for a few minutes and then made herself move. She walked quickly away from the body and blood until she was far enough away that she could think. She exhaled her long held breathe and frowned. "That does not make sence, she is a vampire... she can't bleed. I know she can't." she spoke out loud, probably looking insane to anyone passing by. "but she was bleeding, and it was strong. So strong, wow, it was like my first hum- no, not thinking of that." she cut herself off. "we'll have to look into it later." she finally decided, sitting down against a tree and closing her eyes.

 

Hannah groaned as she finally registered the pain. "That b*stard knocked me out...."

 

Van Helsing mounted Lexi and rode her out of the stables. He planned to go around the backside of the Vatican and get two carriages from the churche's stables there. I can pick up Carl as well. He can take one team of horses and Lexi can pull the second carriage on her own for a little. I'm sure Beatrice will let Sorin join her. Then we'll have enough room for people and their things.

 

"I know," Edward said, climbing the stairs to go up to the room. "But it really was better that way. You... you wouldn't have wanted to be conscious."

 

"Edward...," Hannah's voice was quiet and she still hadn't opened her eyes. "It hurts...."

 

"I know, hush," Edward soothed, reaching under Hannah to turn the door open to the room. He walked inside and placed her on his bed, propping her head up on the pillows.

"What can I do to help?" he asked, sitting next to her.

 

Van Helsing saw a monk standing outside the back of the stables behind the Vactican and called out to him to stay.

"I need a team of horses and two carriages," he began. "Carl should have informed you of our departure," he added, just to mention a name.

The man shook his head, clueless.

Van Helsign sighed. "Well, Carl can be like that, forgetting things. Anyway, I'm in a bit of a hurry, so..."

The man nodded and rushed off. Van Helsing smiled and dismounted Lexi. "I'll have him fetch Carl and then we'll head back so you can rest a bit more before we go, alright?"

 

Carl was sitting with his face fallen onto papers, at his desk. he had fallen asleep while preparing to go.

Jinx pulled her knees into her chest and smiled as a slight breeze blew over her. "I hope we don't stay at too many inns." she mused, enjoying the evening now that the smell of blood wasn't tormenting her.

 

Hannah winced when she first touched the bed, but soon relaxed into the soft mattress. I prefer getting shot in the shoulder. She thought. "Edward," She took comfort in saying his name. "Unless you can make the pain vanish, I think I'll just have to deal...." Her head tilted to the side. She wanted to open her eyes, but they felt too heavy.

 

The monk soon returned with the carriages, one horse pulling each slowly. He quickly harnessed them both to one carriage, leaving the other for Lexi.

"You can handle that on your own for a few minutes, can't you, girl?" Van Helsing said. "Hook those horses's carriage to the front of this other one, so they can help my horse pull it. Oh, and," he added. "Can you please fetch Carl when you have a chance? He should be here already."
