Van Helsing

Hannah sighed. "If you want to go into the city, then go ahead. I'll stay here with Beatrice and the horses. I don't mind."

 

"I'm going out, then," Edward said, not in the mood to argue, and left the stable, not really caring where he walked.

 

"Well, then," Van Helsing said, turning to Jinx. "You seemed to want to go somewhere. If Hannah wants to anitsocial, alright then. Shall we?"

 

Hannah resisted the urge to stick her tongue out at Van Helsing. They just don't understand that I'm staying because I'm... scared. She admitted to herself once Edward was gone. I don't want to run into Elijah again.

 

Edward walked, ignoring other people that stared or tried to say politely hello to him as he passed. Everything in the city seemed so much nicer in the daylight, the buildings welcoming, shining, almost unreal. He made his way through to the center of the city, where he spotted the Vatican without even trying. The men in red robes and white collars all wandered around, and Edward watched them, lost in thought.

I need to learn more about this Dracula if we're really going to kill him, he thought suddenly. I'm sure people have tried for centuries with the same old techniques and gotten no where. We can't get there and fail because we don't have the right knowledge! I need to find a library... I'm sure there's one nearby if not inside the Vatican itself...

 

Hannah closed her eyes. "Van Helsing, are you really okay with us? I mean, the fact of what we are." She asked suddenly.

 

"Why do you ask now? Again?" Van Helsing replied. "Yeah," he added. "I'm fine for now. But we'll see what happens in the future."

 

Hannah kept her eyes closed. "Would you promise me something?"

 

"Maybe," Van Helsing said, slightly wary. "Depends what it is... I can try."

 

"If I ever get out of line... I want you to stop me." Hannah said, opening her eyes and looking at the ceiling. "I don't want to hurt anyone..."

 

Jinx stood up but didn't make a move to go anywhere, she just listened. Watching Hannah, she realized that the lack of self control reminded her of herself so long ago.

 

"If that's really want you want," Van Helsing replied."Yeah... I can do that."

 

Edward found the library he was looking for quickly. All the buildings seemed to be labeled well and nicely placed, all inviting and nice-looking enough for him to not have to search all day to find anything he was looking for.

He walked through the mountains and towering piles of books, the inside of the library not as well lit as the streets outside. Not many other people were inside, and the rows of books were quiet and cool as he searched, not really knowing what he was looking for.

 

Hannah smiled softly. "Thanks."

 

Jinx nodded, "None of us will let you hurt anyone if you lose control. dont' worry, you gain control over the years, it just takes practice." she assured Hannah.

 

Van Helsing nodded. "Shall we go, then... who ever is going, anyway?"

 

"yeah, so, are you coming Hannah?" Jinx asked, looking at her hopefully.

 

"Can I help you find something?"

Edward turned to see who had spoken to him. A young girl stood on the opposite side of the bookshelf from him, leaning against the shelf. Her long, black curls hung in front of her face, and he couldn't help but look at her curvy, slim figure embraced by a light blue, low cut dress. She smiled at him now, waiting for an answer to the question.

"Yes," Edward spoke, returning the smile. "I don't know if you're the one to help me, though."

 

"Go on." Hannah prodded. "I'm fine."

 

"Where shall we go?" Van Helsing asked Jinx. "I don't know my way around that well. I've never stayed here this long."
