Van Helsing

"Just an odd fact," Edward said. "I didn't mean to bother you. Look, there they are!"

He pointed ahead at the stables, just down a few blocks from them in the streets. They could see Van Helsing, Jinx, and Beatrice, and Edward smiled when he saw the first two talking.

 

Jinx looked down, suddenly feeling bad about how cold she had sounded. "I'm sorry, I'm just... I don't like seeing human blood spilt by my kind... it brings back alot of bad memories and.... and I guess it scares me." she admitted, honestly.

 

Hannah locked her eyes on the group, trying to forget the smell. For a moment she wondered why Edward didn't notice it, but she canceled that out by thinking that Angelyn didn't smell the same to Edward as she did to herself. "Looks like we're last to join our little entourage."

 

"Scares me a bit, too, actually," Van Helsing admitted, not looking at Jinx now. "You think I love what I do? I don't, dear, trust me. Hey!" he exclaimed suddenly. "I see them! Finally!"

 

"Yeah, I take it you like what you do as much as I like what I am." Jinx muttered and then looked up and made herself smile at the two coming towards them. "Hey guys. Feeling better Hannah?"

 

"Yes," Edward agreed. "Is everything alright?" he added, glancing down at Hannah's worried face. "You don't look very happy."

 

"Just tired." Hannah closed her eyes and when she opened them, they were back to blue. I smelled the girl again, Edward.

 

Van Helsing frowned suddenly. He looked around Edward and Hannah to the streets beyond them.

That's funny, he thought. I could have sworn I saw someone coming this way...

 

Jinx narrowed her eyes and stood up. She recognized the sent of the girl. "Uh oh... I think we might want to go, like right now."

 

Edward stared at her for a second, and then looked back at Jinx and Van Helsing and smiled. He walked over to Lexi casually, and went into the saddlebags to find the silver bullet case. He took the gun out of the pocket of his cloak and loaded it silently, not caring whether it would kill any vampire or a human being right away or not... injuring so I can get my teeth around them... that's all I need...

 

"No!" Jinx snapped at Edward, seeing him pull out a gun. "You will not shoot that poor girl! She's just a child!"

 

"It's fine, Edward. She's gone." Hannah sat in the hay and put her head between her knees.

 

"Elijah, you can't go after her if she's with someone." Angelyn protested.

"I'll get her alone then." Elijah said, loading a gun. "It won't be hard. All I have to do is get her alone, shoot her, and finish her. It's not any different than the others I've killed."

"But you like her." Angelyn said.

Elijah turned to face his sister. "What did you say?"

"You like her." Angelyn repeated. "I can tell. You didn't kill her right away last night, so I figured the only thing stopping you is your feelings for her."

Elijah grit his teeth. "I do NOT like her. She's a monster. Now, stay here while I finish this." He left, heading for the stables.

 

Jinx looked at Hannah, shocked, "Can't you smell them? They are coming, right now!" she told her, motioning for them to get up.

 

"I don't intend to shoot her," Edward snapped, slamming the bullet casing into the gun and pushing back the hammer. "Just the one with her."

 

'What the hell is going on?" Van Helsing asked, standing up from the hay himself, and looking around, particularly at Jinx.

 

"Someone who wants to kill Hannah is coming." Jinx explained, keeping the details silent for Hannah's sake.

 

"And you said nothing interesting happened last night," Van Helsing snapped at Hannah. "So what is this thing after you? Another werewolf? Another vampire? What is it?"

 

"A mini version of you." Hannah's response was muffled. "His name is Elijah Von Cullen." She kept her head between her knees. "Edward, please don't."

 

Elijah kept his hand near his gun as he made his way to the stable. This time, I'll make sure she doesn't walk away; feelings or none.
