Van Helsing

"How do you people not smell these things?" Jinx muttered to herself. She looked around while they waited for Beatrice to get up.

Carl followed Van Helsing to meet Beatrice. "Good morning." he greeted her as she started to wake up.

 

Sorin stood up, dropping Beatrice, and shaking himself. He took hold of the back of her shirt with his teeth and pulled her up. Beatrice yawned and gently pulled away from Sorin's hold. "Okay, I'm awake."

Hannah bit her lip and decided she may as well get it over with. "Elijah came when I was about to... you know," She spoke quickly. "He told me to let her go, I didn't, he fired. Jinx came, we left, she went back to hunt, I came back here."

 

"Was that so hard?" Edward asked, turning around to look at her now. "I understand it upsets you... but you don't know how angry that makes me..."

He sighed, stepping over to the bed again and sitting, his head in his hands. "We need to get out of here as soon as we can. If we stay... I don't know what I'll do..."

 

"Your horse loves you," Van Helsing said, standing and stepping back. "I love how you stay out here all afternoon and evening by yourself... we didn't know what was going on."

 

"Sorry." Beatrice apologized. "I thought it'd be best to leave you guys alone for a while. I had a feeling things were getting tense." She picked up her sword from the hay and attached it back to her belt.

 

Hannah vision blurred with tears and she quickly wiped her eyes. "I don't know which is worse... being here with Elijah or going back out there where John is."

 

"Come here," Edward sighed, wrapping his arms around her. "Let's go down to the stables and see what happens after that. What do you say?"

 

"Lovely," Van Helsing sighed. "Now, those two better be here soon or I'm going back to the inn and breaking down that door without knocking."

 

Hannah exhaled. "Okay." She didn't like the idea of being near Van Helsing or possibly running into Elijah.

 

"Can't they have some alone time?" Beatrice asked. The thought that the two supposed enemies were getting along made her happy.

 

"I want to protect you, you know," Edward said, letting go of her and picking up his cloak from the floor. "That's why I get angry... but you don't need to worry. The full moon is gone for now."

 

"I'm not worried either way." Hannah said. "I'm only concerned about you."

 

Jinx accute hearing picked up the conversation and she smiled to herself, silently agreeing with Beatrice.

 

"Well, they better be ready to go, that's all I'm saying," Van Helsing said, going back over to the hay pile to lean back in it again. "What about you, Carl? I never asked if you were ready to leave this place or not yet."

 

"I'm glad for your concern, dear," Edward sighed, "but if you really do care and worry about me you'll do well to tell me things, truthfully, mind you, when you can."

 

"Ah, yes. Actully I wanted to talk to you about that. I need one more day, to get everything ready, if we can spare the time." Carl said, "I can be ready now, but it'd be better if I had another day to prepare."

 

Hannah sighed. "That can be difficult, you know."

 

"Well, in all my years knowing you, Carl, you've never not been prepared when I told you we'd be leaving. But," he added when the friar opened his mouth to argue, "I don't see a problem in waiting till sundown to leave."

Van Helsing looked over at Jinx as well, catching her eye to see if she had any objections.
