Van Helsing

"Me neither." Hannah murmured, standing up. "I need to be alone for a bit...." She walked off before Jinx could protest. She put a hand to her forehead as she walked. She caught the smell of blood, not bothing to determin if she had a fever or not. She wrinkled her nose. It's not human blood. She thought descisively, but followed the scent anyway. "Oh my God... Edward!" She ran to him, getting on her knees by his side on the slope. "Edward?" The smell of blood starting getting to her. "Jinx! Van Hesling!" She yelled. "Come quick!!"

 

Jinx jumped up and shook Van Helsing, in case he didn't hear Hannah. "Get up." she said, already running to Hannah and Edward. She soon caught the smell of his blood. "Oh gods!" she gasped, also dropping to her knees next to Hannah.

 

Edward opened his eyes slightly for a moment, the whole world a whirl of colors and blurs. "Han..." he began, and then fell limp, barely aware of changing back to his human form.

 

"What?" Van Helsing began, shaking the sleep from his head, but Jinx had already run off. He sighed, stood up, and ran after her.

 

"No.... No, Edward, don't do this." Hannah's eyes swarmed with tears. "Please, Edward...." She stroked his cheek, barely aware that Jinx had come.

 

Jinx could smell the silver bullet, it's smell hurt her nose. "Not good." she muttered, turning to face Van Helsing as he joined them. "How do you cure a silver bullet in a werewolf that isn't in the heart?" she asked, urgently.

 

"Treat it the same as a normal wound for now," Van Helsing said, hearing the question from Jinx as he ran up to the group in the snow. "When we get to Rome I can get something to treat him."

 

"Edward...." Hannah kept repeating the name, hoping that maybe he'd be okay. Her tears stained her cheeks; a feeling of loneliness coming over her. She kept her hand on Edward, not wanting to let him go in anyway.

 

"Okay, then we need a clothe for a bandage, something to clean the wound, and to take the bullet out before he starts healing. You'll have to do that part, Van Helsing, sorry." Jinx added her apology honestly. "Is there some kind of bandage back at the camp?"

 

"Okay..." Van Helsing began, looking at Edward. "I can carry him... you two go and try to find something in my saddlebags... or wake Beatrice and ask her if she has anything. And we can leave right away for Rome if we can."

He knelt to pick up Edward. "Hannah, dear, you're going to have to let go of him," he said, surprisingly gently, and moved her hands. He gathered Edward in his arms, sinking inches into the snow under the man's weight. "Go," he said now, starting to trudge up the hill.

 

Jinx helped Hannah up, ignoring her protests, and pulled her along at a run. "Hurry, we need to help save him." she urged her. At the camp she quickly started looking through the sadle bags for clothe or bandage or something.

 

Hannah stayed as close to Edward as she could. "Will he be okay...?" She asked, her voice breaking.

 

"If we work fast and get to Rome quickly, yes." Jinx answered, pulling out a stray clothe and water canister. "We'll get more water in Rome." she muttered, going over to Edward and Van Helsing. "Okay, can you take out that bullet?" she asked.

"Right now?" Van Helsing asked. "I really don't think there's a bullet in him from the look of his wound..." He knelt and placed Edward on top of one of the blankets in the snow, his back against a small boulder. His head rolled to the side heavily, his hair hanging in his eyes.

Van Helsing tore Edward's sleeve back to see the wound. Even he recoiled when he saw the damage done: the tear in Edward's skin was at least two inches thick, almost exposing the bone. The edges of the wound seemed to be cauterized, burned marks and an awful crinkled look displayed, confirming the use of a silver bullet.

"It's not that bad," he spoke, and continued quickly when he saw Hannah's incredulous look: "Well, this nasty thing could be his heart instead of his arm, so... look, I don't know how to treat the wound completely," he added to Jinx. "I'm usually glad that werewolves get hit with these things! Anyway... you can tell from the cut of the bullet that it's no longer here. The path went across his arm, deep, and then exited without being completely inside him."

 

Jinx nodded, keeping herself from breathing because the smell of his blood made her want to throw up. "Alright. If their's no bullet, than we just need to clean it and then bind the wound. I have water and bandages, do you happen to have straight acholal? I didn't look but now that I think of it..." she looked at Van Helsing, hopfully.

She has been sworn to be a nun since she was little by her family... they have to see each other in secret and never speak of their love for each other to any other person.

BIC: "Are you kidding?" Van Helsing said, reaching over to his saddlebag and pulling out a bottle of absinthe. "I don't know if alcohol on a silver bullet wound is a good idea, though..."

 

Hannah bit her lip, watching with worry. It's my fault.... I made him leave....

 

"Don't worry about it. It'll hurt, but it will also clean the wound of all silver." Jinx explained, confidently, as though she'd done this before. She took the bottle. "Okay, Edward, hold in there." she uncorked the bottle and poored a little into the wound. "Hannah, make sure he doesn't move." she instructed, grabbing one of Edwards arms to hold him down as he reacted to the achohal in the wound.
