Van Helsing

"I don't even care anymore," Van Helsing sighed, and shut his eyes. "Goodnight. Wake me up if anything or anyone needs shooting."

 

"No." Jinx replied, curtly, grinning. "Cya in the moring Van Helsing." she prodded the fire again, making it light up again.

 

Edward walked back inside the camp and sat down by the fire, putting a blanket under himself and sighing.

"Don't ask," he said, not knowing his anyone was going to speak or not.

 

"Okay." Jinx shrugged. "It's not our buisness anyway." she stared into the fire, watching it leap and spark.

 

Hannah wiped her eyes. Once they were free of tears, they caught a passing shadow. She looked up at the sky, but didn't see anything through the trees.

"Nice night."

Hannah would have screamed if it weren't for the hand that had come over her mouth.

"Let's talk." John let go of Hannah. "You've two days left, but I'd like to know if you've made your choice."

"Leave me alone!" Hannah yelled.

John held up a hand, silencing Hannah. "I take that as a no. Not a problem, you've still got time." He stroked Hannah's cheek. "Give my regards to the hunter."

Hannah closed her eyes at his touch. "Keep away from me." But when she opened her eyes, John had left. "B*stard." She felt new tears come to her eyes as she walked back to the others.

 

Jinx stood up and met her before she came all the way to the group. "Hannah, did that jerk vampire, John, just come here?" she asked, queitly. "I heard him, I know I did. Are you okay?"

 

Edward tried to sleep. He found he couldn't even keep his eyes shut; the moon was showing again, and it took all his strength to stop from standing, howling, changing, and running into the forrest.

A small growl escaped his lips and he sighed. His fingers itched to claw at something, to rip something apart for no reason. What is wrong with me? he thought, bewildered. I've never wanted to hurt anything when the moon is out... what's going on with me?

Edward suddenly sprang up from his place at the fire and ran off into the woods. He was already half covered in fur and red-eyed when he bounded past Jinx and Hannah on all fours, into the darkness.

 

"What the hell just happened?" Van Helsing said, waking up and sitting up with a start.

 

"Edward just ran off. It is a full moon." Jinx answered, looking around at him.

 

"He's gone...." Hannah said quietly. She only half noticed when Edward came running past. "He won't come back." She rubbed her cheek. She couldn't decide whether his 'loving' touch or slap hurt more. "Van Helsing... you might want to find Edward...."

 

"No," Van Helsing muttered, his eyes still shut. "He's fine. You get him, Hannah, dear."

 

Edward ran until he ran out of breath. He finally sat on a small ridge, itching the back of his ear. He looked out past the snow to see the stars in the sky, the dark clouds covering most of them.

God help the person who comes after me, Edward thought. I don't even know if I can control myself...

 

Jinx shook her head, seeing Van Helsing going back to sleep, "Hannah,be careful. Okay. I can go with you if you want."

 

Hannah shook her head. "I'll go.... It's okay." She walked back through the forest, following Edward's foot and scent prints. "Edward," She called gently when she reached him.

 

Jinx walked back to the fire but when she sat down she was competely tence, listening after Hannah and ready to run after her if anything happened.

 

Edward only growled and did not turn when he heard Hannah. Go away, he thought. I don't know what's wrong with me. I don't want to hurt her.

 

"Let them be, Jinx," Van Helsing muttered. "Stop listening in... nosy..."

 

"I'm not being nosy." Jinx muttered. She stopped listening but was still tence. "He doesn't scare me when he's trying not to hurt people. But... what if he can't help but hurt her when she gets close, now?" she sighed. "Whatever, just go to sleep." she clenched her hands.

 

Hannah hesitated, but slowly walked closer to Edward. "I'm sorry about earlier... Edward, please look at me." She stopped a few feet from him.

 

"You'll need more sleep than me," Van Helsing muttered.
