Van Helsing

"Oh, no," Van Helsing said with a small laugh. "It is."

 

Hannah closed her eyes for a moment. "Edward... you told him." She said, a slight tone of bitterness in her voice. "And then you stopped him from killing me. And I don't really understand why."

 

"But then... you must be one of them." Beatrice tried to piece things together.

 

"I'm sorry?" Van Helsing asked. "What do you mean?"

 

"Yes, I know," said Edward. "But I was just getting tired of Jinx getting blamed for everything. And there are reasons why I knew you had kill Henry and that you were a vampire, and that Van Helsing wasn't evil..."

 

"And why is that?" Hannah asked, now closing her eyes against the sun. She was tired and getting irritated.

 

"No one can live that long... unless they're a vampire...." Beatrice said softly.

 

"I don't know why I can't remember and, trust me," he added with a laugh. "I'm not a vampire. There are other things that can live longer than humans, you know."

 

"I can't tell you," Edward said softly.

 

Hannah bit her tongue. After a moment, she said, "Okay. Fine. Brilliant. I'm going to sleep." She let go of Sorin's mane.

 

"Mind telling me?" Beatrice asked. "I want to be of more use."

 

Exel just yawned and sighed.

 

"Hannah?" Edward said, but she ignored him, pretending to be asleep. He shook his head. I can't tell her yet... he thought. I mean, it's not that big of a deal, but who knows how she'll react?

 

After a while, Hannah did fall asleep, falling back lightly on Edward. Her hair obscured her face, but it was still easy to see how pale she was. "Edward...." She murmured, a small smile crossing her lips.

 

"What is it?" Edward asked, looking over Hannah's shoulder to see her face. "What's the matter?"

 

"Well, to tell you the truth, I don't even know exactly what I am," Van Helsing replied. "You see, that's what I can't remember my past as well. Some things become clearer, but for now I don't know much at all. We should reach Rome by tomorrow afternoon... we should find a place to camp for the night soon."

 

Hannah was still alseep.

 

Beatrice thought over what Van Helsing said. "Wait, camp? We're gonna stay out in the woods at night?"

 

"Would you rather we all fall asleep on our horses like Hannah back there? That's not a good idea, either."

 

"Alright, then," sighed Edward, letting Hannah sleep or ignore him, whichever it was. "Van Helsing!" he shouted, and the man on the horse in front of him turned in his seat. "I heard something about camping soon!"
