Van Helsing

"Tell me what's wrong," Edward asked, ignoring Van Helsing's and Jinx's stares and attitudes to leave. "Please."

 

Hannah shook her head harder. "Don't make me...." She begged quietly. "Please, Edward...."

Three slow claps echoed in the room from the doorway.

Hannah raised her head to look at who had made the sound. Her tearing eyes widened and she froze.

"Quite a show, I must say." The man took a couple steps forward.

Hannah trembled, fear starting to take her over. She was glad Edward was close to her.

"Not even a 'hello'," The man stopped. "Hannah Rose?" He noticed Van Helsing's body language and stifled a laugh. "Forgive me, I am John Totten; an old friend of Hannah's."

 

"And what the hell are you doing here?" Van Helsing snapped, not in the best mood. He still wanted to find Dracula.

 

"I'm not forcing you, Hannah," Edward muttered quickly to Hannah before he looked at John and glared. He did not have a good feeling about the man... there was a vibe around him that made him want to push Hannah behind him and tell him to leave.

 

Hannah gripped Edward's hand. "You must understand, Edward," She said, unable to look away from John. "This man-"

"Hannah," John's voice was smooth yet forceful. "Let's save stories for another time." He looked back at Van Helsing. "I'm simply watching over Hannah." He replied.

Once John's eyes were off her, Hannah moved as close as she could to Edward, still trembling.

 

"And why is that your job?" Van Helsing asked, ignoring Hannah and Edward. He, too, had a bad feeling about the man...

 

"It's okay," Edward whispered, holding her a little tighter. "Tell me later." He tried his best not to let Hannah squeeze the burning on his chest and cheek.

 

Hannah squeezed her eyes shut, not wanting to hear an answer. "Edward, I.... " She trailed off.

John's mouth formed a kind of smirk. "She is mine."

 

"Excuse me?" Edward snapped, letting go of Hannah and standing to face John. "Sorry, but if you're just going to spout bullshit you can get out of here and leave us to our business."

 

John looked at Edward. "Anything Hannah does is my business."

Hannah nodded meekly, staying on the floor.

"And I'm not fond of the thought of her with Count Dracula." John met Edward's stare. "Leave her to me and she'll be safe."

 

Edward was shocked when Hannah nodded. "I don't think so," he snapped, scolding himself mentally for almost growling at the man. "Hannah is fine with us... with me, so you can explain yourself or get out."

 

John smirked again. He held out his hand, palm up.

Hannah rose, walked to John, and took his hand.

John turned Hannah around so that her back was to his abs. "You see?" He looked at Edward. "She'd much rather be with me than you."

Hannah kept her eyes lowered, feeling completely useless.

 

Edward started, anger rising in him. He felt his werewolf instinct start to flow through his veins once more, and found it almost impossible to control himself. He doubled over, a low growl escaped his lips. I don't understand, he though visciously. What the hell is going on here?

 

John lowered his head near Hannah's neck, brushing her hair away. "I told you: she's mine." His fangs lightly touched Hannah's neck.

Hannah shuddered. "Edward...." She brought herself to look at him. "I'm sorry."

 

"Edward, calm down," Van Helsing said, pointing his gun at the werewolf. "If Hannah wants to stay with this freak, so be it. But we have other things to worry about, remember?"

 

Edward fell on his hands and knees for a third time. "Let Hannah... explain herself first or I will rip this man's throat out..."

 

John drew back. "Tell them." He said to Hannah. "In as much detail as you want."

Hannah couldn't look at Van Helsing or Edward. "What he says is true." She uttered, feeling like she might cry. "But I don't like it! Edward, I have no choice!"

John stroked Hannah's cheek. "You seemed," He turned her face towards him. "Exhilarated..." He eyed Edward before looking back at Hannah. "When you got my 'present'."

Hannah yanked away from John, but he still held her wrist firmly. "I felt nothing but fear!" She sobbed. "Just let me go...."

John released Hannah's wrist. "A bond of blood cannot simply be let go of."

 

"Fine," Edward growled, gathering all his strength to stand upright. "Do as you wish, Hannah. I've had enough of this." He caught Van Helsing's eye and nodded his head toward the door. "Don't we have to kill the devil or something?" he snapped, and left the room quickly.

 

"Edward!" Van Helsing called after the man, but he did not come back. "Very well," he sighed. "Beatrice, Jinx, let's go... do what we must and find Edward. Hannah..." he paused. What the hell is stopping me from killing this John right now! He obviously has hurt people... I shall be forgiving and give him one chance...

"This goes for you and John," Van Helsing continued. "If I see either of you again, I will kill you both without a second thought." He turned and left with Beatrice and Jinx behind him.

 

Hannah would have fallen to the floor but John caught her. "Don't touch me!" She yelled through her tears.

"You know what he is, and yet you still try to love him." John muttered, letting Hannah drop. "You think you'll be better off with him?!" His voice rising. "He will kill you just as quickly as look at you!"

Hannah buried her face in her hands.

"Why do you hate me so?" John's voice was softer.

Hannah looked up at him. "Perhaps your stupidity is one reason."

John yanked her up by her shirt and slapped her hard across her face. "Whether you like it or not, I am your master and you will never go near that beast again!"

Hannah cried out both from shock and pain. "I love Edward!"
