"It's okay." Hannah assured Edward, hoping her voice sounded evener. "I've learned my lesson on biting werewolves."

John smirked. "Both in a way."

 

Edward sighed and turned around, pulling Hannah against his chest, his arms wrapped tightly around her. "Please be more careful," he whispered, stooping slightly so his nose almost touched hers. "I don't think I can manage something like that happening to you again."

 

"Interesting," Lestat smiled. "You do know that I only kill evil doers, don't you? It's an ancient vampire thing, something that would takes days to explain to you, but that is what I do."

 

Hannah exhaled. "I don't think I can either." She noticed that Edward's skin didn't feel so warm to her anymore. Huh... Weird. Bee must be right; I'm running a temperature. Or Edward's just really cold from going shirtless.

John looked back at Lestat. "You're missing all the fun then."

 

Jinx smiled without opening her eyes. "I could hit you if it would make you feel more comfortable." she said.

 

"I thought that was my job," Van Helsing smiled. "And, by the way, does it matter how I hit you at the time? Just to clarify."

 

"Do you mind?" Edward chuckled. "I can find a shirt if it bothers you..."

 

"Well, I can't say I perfectly follow the rules," Lestat muttered. "That's where the fun comes in."

 

"I just don't want to be killed. Anything that will hurt or shock me enough to cut off his fake emotions for a moment." Jinx answered.

 

"It's not you, it's me." Hannah laughed lightly.

"I see." John murmured.

 

Van Helsing smiled, thinking of what he could do. "Alright, then," he smiled. "I can definitely manage that."

 

"I'm glad you don't mind, then," Edward smiled. "Shall... shall we go and find Beatrice, or are you enjoying standing here with me too much to move?"

 

"Okay, you know I'm trusting you so don't miss and shoot my head off or something, okay?" Jinx opened her eyes and looked at him seriously.

 

"So is the little girl still around?" Lestat asked casually. "She should go back to her friends."

 

"Oh, I don't have any weapons that you can think of in mind, dear," Van Helsing sighed, proud of himself. "You'l just have to see when the time comes."

 

Jinx's eyes narrowed. "Okay then... I'll just make sure I'm braced for pain." she closed her eyes again, "Thanks for helping me with this, by the way."

 

Hannah quickly detached herself from Edward, lowering her head so he wouldnt' see her blush. "Yeah... Let's go."

"She went to the stables." John replied. "And she'd talking to her horse for some reason."

 

"Any time," Van Helsing sighed. "Well... the sun has gone down. Doesn't that mean we should draw Carl away from the endless supply of alcohol and try to get moving again?"

 

"Okay," Edward nodded, going to the door and opening it for her. They descended down the stairs and exited the tavern. "Where would she be? With Sorin?" Edward guessed.

 

"She can hear his thoughts," Lestat smiled. "Like I always says, the Dark Gift is different for us all."
