"that makes sense." Jinx said, smiling. "You're lucky to have Carl around, he's a nice guy."

 

"He can be," Van Helsing sighed. "Sometimes I wish I had other company, you know? Someone other than a strict, smart friar... no offense meant to the man, of course."

 

"Oh, I get it." Jinx nodded slightly. "Well, you have your pick of other people to talk to that are the exact opposite of a frair now."

 

"Thus why I'm speaking with you, my dear," Van Helsing replied quickly, catching her eye and winking again. "It's a nice change."

 

"Well sarcastic female vampire is about as far from a frair as you can get." Jinx smiled back at him. "So, it makes sense."

 

"Definitely," Van Helsing agreed. "You don't mind talking to me, do you?"

 

"If I minded I would have left." Jinx replied. "I like talking to you.... I don't talk to people either."

 

"Cute," Van Helsing laughed. "That's exactly what I would have done if I were in your spot." He shut his eyes and laughed harder. "It's odd having things in common with you, isn't it?"

 

"Yeah, it is... you are not the person I would have thought I would have anything in common with before I met you." Jinx laughed a little with him and closed her eye.

 

"Would you feel wierd and leave if I said that I think God put us together like this for a reason?" Van Helsing asked tentatively, his laughter stopping now.

 

"No... I would stay put and want to hear why you thought that if you said that." Jinx answered, smiling and keeping her eyes shut.

 

"Just a thought I had," Van Helsing muttered, glad she wasn't upset. "The idea that everything happens and everyone is here for a reason is something I've always believed in."

 

"It's interesting." Jinx sighed. "I hope you're right, sort of. Then we would know that this isn't a bad idea or a good one, it's just fate."

 

"What do you mean by this?" Van Helsing smiled. "Us... the two of us... or our group?"

 

"Both... I think." Jinx answered. "But one wouldn't happen without the other... see how it's much nicer to see that as fate? Then this was meant to be and that was and then whatever happens later..." she mused.

 

"True," Van Helsing repeated. "That's a way to look at it. I do like you," he added quickly. "Much better... company than the others I've gained."

 

Jinx smiled. "I like you too, Van Helsing. You're very good company... even when you make me mad. Sorry I yell at you sometimes, by the way."

 

"Well, like Carl says, for people like us yelling is just communicating kindly sometimes," Van Helsing laughed.

 

"Yeah... that's a good excuse." Jinx nodded, smiling. "I'm just not used to being worried about people, I'll work on my reaction though so I yell less." she promised.

 

"Same here," Van Helsing related. "I just... wonder what will happen to us after this is all over."
