Van Helsing

Hannah took a deep breath and closed her eyes, trying to calm down. "I shouldn't have told her about it. I knew she'd overreact and tell someone. Just forget she ever said anything."

 

"You're welcome," Van Helsing smiled, giving her a little wink. "Any time..."

 

"Okay," Edward agreed. "I can do that for you, no problem. But just know, if there is every anything bothering you, you can talk to me, alright?"

 

"Okay..." Jinx just looked at him, trying to figure out what was going on. She was used to sarcasm and back and forth answers. This just threw her off. Finally she lay back on her back and stared at the ceiling again.

 

"Not about this." Hannah exhaled. "It's... too hard. I don't know how I did with Beatrice... But I don't want to do it again. Why don't you just go ask her? I'm sure she'd be more than willing to tell you everything else." She opened her eyes, keeping them trained on the wall. "My parents..." She began slowly. "They were the best parents I could ask for."

 

Van Helsing started to chuckle to himself, her lack of response making him grin.

 

Edward nodded. "You don't have to talk if you don't want to," he soothed, putting a tentative hand to her cheek. "You know... I hate to try and compare or empathize unnecessarily, but Dracula killed my parents and then Van Helsing murdered them in cold blood."

 

Jinx smiled. "What? You're being very confusing." she responded to him laughing.

 

"I'm just amused by you," Van Helsing explained, catching her eye again. "I sincerely hope that isn't a crime or something that will make you stop talking to me."

 

Jinx shook her head, smiling. "No, I'm not going to stop talking to you. I'm just trying to figure out what to say."

 

"But..." Hannah shook her head. She continued, softer, "You didn't kill them yourself...." She curled into a tighter ball.

"It seems that time is past. After all," John couldn't help but smile. "Humans are the best selection on the menue."

 

"Well, I do enjoy your responses," Van Helsing replied smoothly. "Yet I seem to have you at a loss for words at the moment. I must say I'm proud of myself."

 

"You cannot blame your instincts," Edward murmured softly. "Dwelling on the past will not help you, dear."

 

"yeah, you got me to shut up, Congratulations!" Jinx laughed and flipped over to lay on her stomach so she was looking at the headboard of the bed and resting her chin on her arms. "Deja Vu." she muttered, still keeping up a smile.

 

"I could never argue with you there, my friend," Lestat sighed in agreement. "Though the sun will begin going down soon... what is your plan for this coming evening?"

 

"Hmm?" Van Helsing asked. "What for?"

 

"this, being shut up because I can't think what to say because someone said something nice." Jinx smiled, "You are much better at it though, because it's not a trick, I actully can't think of anything to say in reply.... good job!"

 

John restrained a chuckle at Hannah's thoughts. "I'll be keeping my distance from the hunters." He answered Lestat.

"They were my parents, Edward." Hannah murmured.

 

"Um... thank you?" Van Helsing laughed. "You know," he began more seriously, "what shall we do about Will anyway?"

 

"We're not going to do anything." Jinx replied, also becoming serious. "I'll deal with him when I can." she bit her lip, "Although I do sort of have a favor to ask..."
