"What else should I say?" Edward asked. "If that's all you know, Beatrice, then... I guess it's up to you what you want to do."

 

Beatrice's hand went to the hilt of her sword. "I'd like to find my horse."

 

Edward glanced at her sword. "Can you use that thing?" he asked.

 

"Of course." Beatrice answered. "My father taught me."

 

Hannah looked up at the sky. A couple more hours and it'll be dawn.

 

"How well?" Edward asked.

"Well enough to fight the devil?" Van Helsing asked cynically.

 

Beatrice grimmaced. "Probably not. I'm no expert, but improvise to make up for it."

 

"So you're saying you've a sharp mind?" Hannah asked.

 

"Good enough," said Edward. 'We should get moving now." He eyed Hannah carefully. "The sun will be coming up and we still need to look for Jinx if we want to know where we're even headed."

 

"Well, let's all follow Edward!" Van Helsing smirked. I didn't think the boy had it in him, he thought. Looks like it just took a cute, mentally injured girl to make him a leader...

 

"I can't leave without my horse." Beatrice protested.

 

Hannah fixed her hair so that it covered her neck again. "Can't you just get a new horse?"

 

"A new horse?!" Beatrice looked at Hannah, shocked.

 

"Of course not!" Van Helsing insisted, patting Lexi's neck. "I'd die for Lexi."

 

Edward stifled a laugh. "If we find your horse, when can we leave?"

 

Beatrice nodded. "I'll go when I have Sorin."

 

Hannah wrapped her arms around her stomach. I've got a bad feeling about this...

 

"God, this is ridiculous!" Edward began angrily, and then stopped himself. Calm down, he thought, taking a breath. Control yourself... "Alright,let's look," he said aloud, ignoring Hannah's look.

 

"Are you alright?" Edward asked Hannah when he saw the look on her face. Everyone spread out, shouting Beatrice's horse's name. "What's wrong?"

 

Beatrice smiled. "Thank you." She headed to the right.
