"I kind of wonder what would have happened if I hadn't joined this group." Beatrice mumbled thoughtfully. "If I had just stayed at the farm...."

 

"You'd still be human and probably have a better life." Jinx said, honestly, frowning, "I'm still sorry about that... I wish you could have your human life back."

 

Beatrice looked back at the floor. "Well, I did live near Hannah.... And she did like my... my smell...."

 

"that's true... but somehow I don't think she'd change you." Jinx said,

 

Beatrice didn't move. "I guess you're right." She sighed, remembering the night she'd seen Hannah out.

 

Jinx sighed, "But actully, nothing would have probably ever happened, you would have been safe... but then again... you'd never have met Carl." she smiled at Beatice.

 

Beatrice cringed. "I don't think I feel the same way about him anymore...."

 

"Which way is that?" Jinx asked innocently.

 

"No way." Beatrice stood and started to pace.

 

"Hm, really? Okay." Jinx shrugged. "That no way makes you seem kind of nervous." she observed.

 

"No," Beatrice denied, but didn't stop pacing.

 

"Okay." Jinx said again. "So why are you pacing?" she asked, still sounding innocent.

 

Beatrice stopped. "Um... I'm... worried about Hannah."

 

"Oh, okay." Jinx nodded, comepletly as if she believed her... which made it sound much more like she didn't.

 

Beatrice folded her arms and sat, cross-legged, on the floor. "I'm just confused."

 

"About Carl?" Jinx asked, sitting foward a bit.

 

Beatrice nodded. "I can't look at him the same way anymore...."

 

"Because he smells so good to you, right?" Jinx guessed.

 

Beatrice nodded again, sadly. "I feel badly about it."

 

"I can see why, but don't worry too much about it. You have very good control over yourself. When you two were alone, nothing happend. That's great!" Jinx smiled encouragingly at her.
