Van Helsing

Beatrice shook her head. "She hasn't moved at all."

 

Jinx nodded and went to Hannah's side. She shook her shoulder a little. "hannah, I got you something that's going to make you feel better..." she said, seeing her eyes open slightly.

 

Van Helsing saw the girl before she saw him. She was crouched in the corner of the room, covered in dirty grey rags and soot from the nearby fireplace. Her golden eyes rose up to meet his, and she flinched back.

"You're all that's left, aren't you?" Van Helsing asked, pulling out his gun.

 

"Lying to me is useless and infuriating," Edward snapped. "I want no quarrel with you right now. Just stay away from them, and we won't have a problem."

 

"Is that so?" Jake stood, anger flaring in him. "What are you playing at? Trying to get on their good side and then take them out, is that it? Just kill them and be done with it!"

 

Hannah flinched at Jinx's cold touch, but she looked around anyway. "I don't want anything...." She mumbling curling into a tighter ball.

"Hannah, please." Beatrice beseeched. "You'll feel better. Maybe not a lot, but at least a little."

"No... humans...." Hannah said, trying to ignore Beatrice's pleading tone.

 

Don't get close to me, the girl hissed in Van Helsing's mind and he stepped back.

"I know another like you that can do that," Van Helsing said, cocking back the hammer of his gun.

"Get out!" she shouted aloud now, rising suddenly from the dust, scattering a cloud of broken floor boards and garbage. "Now or I will kill you!"

"That's my job, dear," Van Helsing snapped, firing one of his six bullets. The girl jumped out of the way before he even blinked. She was out of the house and around the corner as he turned around.

"Dammit," he swore, and ran after the girl.

 

"Hannah, you know that i hate the idea of killing humans, but i'm asking you to do this because it's going to help you. And that's all you can do for right now. We'll find the cure to this, but you need to take care of yourself in the mean time."

 

"They're not bad people," Edward retorted. "Hunting for the sake of hunting is stupid. I'll ask you kindly one more time: let them be."

 

"I can't do that." Jake said more calmly. "I've already started; and a player can't drop out in the middle of a game."

 

"Edward won't like it...." Hannah agrued softly, though the scent had already gotten to her.

"I'm sure he'll understand, Hannah." Beatrice said.

 

Van Helsing followed the girl, around each corner of the maze of houses, always seeing her for just a moment before she vanished from his sight.

He rounded a corner, and, before he could react, felt something hard hit him across his face, knocking him down to the ground. He looked up, dazed, to see the girl with her fist still extended.

"I told you to let me be," she snapped, putting a foot on the shoulder of his arm that held the gun. "Move that hand and I'll break your arm."

 

Edward swallowed. He heard Lestat's calming voice in his head, and it took all his strength to control himself.

"Why kill them if they mean no harm?" he asked, shutting his eyes for a moment. A growl rose in his throat, but he choked it back, clenching his hands into tight fists.

 

Jinx nodded, "He'll understand." she agreed with Beatice. "this is your life, okay?" I am so sorry boy... she couldn't help feeling horrible for what they were trying to confince Hannah of but she kept it from her voice.

 

"Every bloodsucker means harm." Jake retorted. "Even if they're 'good', they'll snap one day and kill a whole village if they can." His grip tightened on his gun. "I don't like carrying silver bullets, but I do for the rare case of someone like you. If you try to protect them, I'll kill you too."

 

Hannah uncurled slightly, eyeing the boy. All she could think of when she saw that boy was what she'd done to Henry. She swore and then rolled over so her back was to Beatrice, Jinx, and the boy. "I can't."

Beatrice went over to the window, sighing. She thought about what Jinx had told her earlier and wondered if Hannah's Dark Gift was being super stubborn.

 

Jinx sighed, "Are you sure?" she asked, gently.

 

Van Helsing grunted, flexing his hand slightly. "I know your brother," he began, finally putting it together. "Edward."

The girl froze for a moment. "Edward?" she repeated. "I don't know any Edward."

"Of course you wouldn't remember him," Van Helsing said, moving his other arm slowly. "You must have been very little when you were turned and he ran away."

"I don't... enough talking!" she stuttered, pushing her foot heavier on his shoulder. Van Helsing swallowed a cry.

Van Helsing smiled. "Good. Just the way I like it." He swept his other arm up around her leg, pulling her down to the ground with him. He had her pinned underneath his legs in a moment, his gun aimed at her forehead.

"Sorry," he apologized. "I'm just glad Edward isn't here now."

 

"Try," Edward laughed. "Just know the next time I see you anywhere near her... well, I wouldn't try it if I were you."

He turned from Lexi and Sorin and started back toward the inn. Don't bother me right now, Lestat, Edward thought, knowing the vampire was about to speak. One more word and I will go back and rip off his arms.

 

He's strange. John thought, placing his gun back in it's holster.
