Van Helsing

Van Helsing saw the sky brightening and looked back at Jinx and Beatrice. "Can you two tell where they are?" he asked. "Which way we should head, anyway?"

 

Beatrice nodded. "Sorin and I are very close. I hate being away from him for a long time." She gazed dreamily at the road ahead, not even hearing Van Helsing.

Hannah looked at Edward, stopping her pacing. "I thought you could already hear my thoughts." She smiled. "I was thinking about John," Her smiled faded. "About why he cares so much what I do.... Why he goes through the trouble he does... And wondering why he can't let me be...."

"In a way." John repeated. "I'm sure she's very grateful."

 

"Sometimes I like to ask what you're thinking," Edward smiled. "I think, in a way, John..." He swallowed a growl, "... he cares about you... and he wants you with him almost like I do. Does that make sense?"

 

"Well, not right now," Lestat replied calmly. "She's a new, inexperienced vampire in this world... and I only left her and didn't teach her anything because I know she has your girl and Will's to take care of her."

 

"Alright, then," Van Helsing sighed. "Just tell me when to stop."

 

Jinx nodded, "I hope you two are not seperated much in the future." she said, then she looked at Van Helsing, her expression rather sad. "Sorry, yeah..." she let her eyes flick over the area, smelling the air carefully. "I think just go straight for awhile, they didn't change their path much. We'll tell you when to turn or stop." she told him

 

Hannah nodded and went back to pacing. "Doesn't he see I don't care about him?" She asked rhetorically, now getting angry. "I mean, I thought I did... at a time... But I don't. Why can't he understand that?!"

John sighed, exasperated. "I'm sure she'll love our life style."

Beatrice focused herself back on the road.

 

"To him, it doesn't matter what you think, dear," Edward explained. "He doesn't care whether you feel the same way or not. You need to rest, though," he sighed, reaching out his arms. "It's light now and you shouldn't be walking around."

 

"Eventually, maybe," Lestat smiled. "I can see you're bothered by my presence."

 

"Fine," Van Helsing muttered, turning around again. "Almost there," he said to Sorin, feeling bad he was all by himself. "I will get your friend back with you soon."

 

Jinx let her sences take over, finally finding something that overuled her thoughts, and waited for a turn or stop in their scents.

 

"You irritate me." John mumbled. "How is anything you're doing helping you?"

Hannah sat down next to Edward. "If he really cared... he would have given me a choice...."

Beatrice smiled. He talks as if he owes it to Sorin.

 

"I know," Edward soothed, wrapping his arms around her. "And I am sorry for that... but I will get rid of him for you, dear. I promise."

 

Jinx sighed, she could tell by now where to turn off the road but it was far enough ahead she didn't need to say anything yet. So, she pulled herself out of shotgun seat and up onto the top of the carrige and layed back, shutting her eyes and waiting to get closer to the turn off point.

Will could tell where they should turn off the road as well and smiled. He'd just have to wait until Jinx was alone or at least with not everyone around her, preferbly not the hunter.

 

"Why?" Lesat repeated loudly, spinning around dramatically with his arms held out, his curly hair wild and loose in the light breeze of the trees. "Why do I do anything, you ask..." he continued, more softly. His voice was full of sorrow, anger, and hilarity. "I do these things because I have lost everything else in my life that has made me remotely happy or content. My own mother... I turned her on her death bed because he was the only woman in my life I ever cared for. And I ruined her. My best friend... oh, if you knew Nicholas, you would have loved him like no other person in the world. Due to my own immortal life, he was almost killed by demented, possessed Parisian vampires. I saved him only to turn him and to this day he hates me more than anything and will not see me. Do not get me started on Louis," he sighed, his throat and voice becoming thick and heavy. He shut his eyes for a moment, running his hands through his hair several times. "Louis and his 'beloved' are another story that I may share later, but for now... I help and I kill because those are the only two things that I can do anymore that make a difference. And," He paused, laughing, his white teeth glinting in the soft forest lighting. "In a way it does help me."

 

Hannah scowled at the ground. "I wish you didn't have to. I don't want you to get hurt."

"So you do it to feel?" John mused.

Beatrice thought of questions she could ask Hannah when they met up again as she fiddled with the reigns.

 

"I'll be fine," Edward reassured her, though his hand unconsciously shied to his cut on his stomach. "Please don't worry about me... it's going to be fine."

 

"That's one way of looking at it, yes," Lestat sighed, his nostalgia still rattling him. "But that's something I don't expect you to understand."

 

Jinx sighed, "Okay, here's where we turn off the road." she called to Van Helsing, not opening her eyes.

Will smiled to himself. Now that you are stopping, let's start darling, shall we? he sent a very subtle wave of anger over her, letting her already unhappy emotions simply magnify instead of change.

 

Van Helsing jumped slightly, and then nodded, slowing the carriage to a stop.

"We need to leave the carriages here," he explained, jumping down to walk over to the second carriage. "They cannot go through the woods here. Carl," he said to the man. "Can you please stay with the carriages as we go get the two troublemakers?"
