Van Helsing (Cont.)

Jinx smiled at them as Bee and her walked over. "'morning." she greeted them.

 

Van Helsing sighed deeply. "Morning, dear," he winked at Jinx, not looking at Beatrice. "Though I'm sure it's close to noon by now."

 

"Well," Hannah hesitated. "I don't want her to have to go through there and endure whatever is on the other side. But I don't want to leave her here alone either. So I'm staying here with her when everyone else goes. And... truthfully... I don't really want to go either... Dracula is a very hard person for me to be around..."

Michael smiled back. "Good morning to you too. I trust you had a good night?"

Beatrice avoided looking at Van Helsing or Michael. She folded her arms across her stomach, a nervous habit, and looked at the decorated walls as casually as she could.

 

"We might need you," Edward replied pointedly. "Isn't that the whole reason you're here with everyone? Dracula?"

 

"Close enough." Jinx answered. She noticed Bee avoiding everyone's eyes. "So... we should probably find Ms. Anna so she can meet Bee, right?" she suggested, uncertainly.

 

"Hmm," Van Helsing muttered with a nod. "She should be out soon, I'm sure."

 

Anna came down to the main room when a sudden, sharp pounding fist struck the door. She passed the four without acknowledging them. "What is it?" She asked when she opened the door.

"Miss Anna there's been-" The man stopped when he saw Beatrice, Michael, Jinx, and Van Helsing. "I'm sorry; I didn't know you had company."

"Get on with it." Anna snapped.

"There was an attack last night," The man started again. "No one was able to get a good look, but we know it was a female."

Anna's grip tightened on the door handle. "I'll look into it." She murmured, closing the door. She turned to look back at Van Helsing, arms over her chest. "Well?"

Hannah sighed. "I know, but what about Bee?"

 

"Well what?" Van Helsing replied with a happy smile. "Would you like me to go out right now and hunt down the beast and bring the body back for you to burn or something?"

 

"I think she's stronger than she knows," Edward replied, lowering his voice as they turned the corner and saw everyone in front of them in the main foyer and room. "She wants to help and I doubt you could keep her here, anyway," he added.

 

Jinx closed her eyes breifly and then looked at Anna, keeping her expression blank. Please don't suspect Bee. Just give her a chance.. she silently asked Anna, to herself.

 

"You expect me to believe that it wasn't one of yours?" Anna pointed to Jinx and Beatrice.

Beatrice cringed closer to Jinx.

Michael stepped in front of Jinx and Beatrice. "Don't accuse them." He said coldly. "It very well could have been another vampire."

"You're probably right," Hannah reluctantly agreed quietly. She looked at the scene before her, wondering what she'd missed and hoping it was nothing bad.

 

Edward nodded briefly, wrapping an arm around Hannah's shoulder and glaring at Van Helsing. Don't be stupid.

 

Jinx looked Anna firmly in the eye, stepping closer to Beatrice. "We didn't do anything to any of your town's people." she stated, shortly.

 

"Oh, I doubt that," Van Helsing replied casually, not showing whether he heard Edward or not. "They're much better behaved; you see, the whole damn reason they're with me is to do something against their nature: getting rid of a vampire. So why the hell would they attack someone? Honestly, miss, I though you were smarter than that."

 

Anna was quiet for a moment. "I have to go into town. You can come, or you can stay here."

Hannah clenched her jaw. I swear, if she makes a move against Bee or Jinx- She didn't bother finishing her thought.

Beatrice looked at the floor, emotions mixing through her.

Michael put an open hand behind his back and gently squeazed Beatrice's hand when she placed it in his.

 

"Go for what?" Van Helsing asked. "To question, look around for the attacker on your own? Interesting ideas..."

 

Let her go if you wish, Edward sent at Van Helsing, not caring if he heard completely or not. Just stop taunting her.

 

Anna responded as calmly as she could, "To do what I always do when this happens."

 

"Oh, very detailed," Van Helsing laughed, crossing his arms.

 

"Do whatever you want, Miss. Anna." Jinx said, "But when are we all going to meet up so that we can go to Dracula's castle? That's the only reason we're here, if you'll recall...?"
