Van Helsing (Cont.)

"That's okay," Hannah replied, the words slurring together.

Michael absentmindedly starting walking. "Beatrice went off with another vampire," He began quietly. "I assume you know what for."

 

"Another vampire?" Van Helsing repeated as they walked, frowning. "She wouldn't go with just another vampire... I know who it was, you know."

 

Edward shut his eyes, but not before a thought came to his mind he had to send: Lestat... where is Bee?

 

"I hope i don't too... but I'm sorry to admit I don't believe you really are. What devil would care so much about his children?" Jinx asked, earnestly. "I tihnk you just want to be worse than the devil because it would make what you less sad or evil or whatever."

 

Lestat shrugged. "Maybe," he responded. "I do know one thing for sure: you can't stand this sunlight very long."

 

Jinx looked up at the sky and winced. "You'd think that wouldn't you? I really do need to get a new cloak... I gave mine to Bee awhile ago." she looked back at him again. "Thank you for talking to me. I hope I don't seem as young to you as you act like I do, because I want you to take what I asked you seriously." she shrugged lightly and turned to go back.

 

"Understood," Lestat nodded, and turned back toward the woods. Oh, yes, Edward, he added to the man. Little Bee has just been enjoying the better things in life.

 

Edward winced slightly at Lestat's words. What did you make her do?

 

"Than you know more than I do," Michael sighed.

 

"Her creator," Van Helsing growled, not liking the word. "Lestat... he doesn't want her to be like Hannah and Jinx."

 

Nothing she didn't really want to do, Lestat sighed, entering the shade of the trees now without noticing the temperature difference. She's fine now, headed back to you.

 

"B.astard," Edward muttered aloud, and then swallowed, afraid Hannah would wake.

 

Jinx walked back to the castle without really seeing what she walked by. Her thoughts were on the conversation. She found it a little off balancing to talk with a vampire that was more than a few months old and oddly nice to be able to ask questions. On the other hand, he was still the man who'd taken Bee's mortality.

 

Lestat smiled to himself as he walked, shutting his eyes and letting his conscious drift to different places, always back to the same person:

Louis, he thought, almost absentmindedly. Missing you all the time... all those awful things you've said.

He could remember the scene now, in Louis' hidden little cottage in New Orleans, desperate for reason: Weep, he had challenged bitterly. I'd like to see you weep. I've read a great deal about your weeping in the pages of your books but I've never seen you weep with my own eyes...

 

Jinx stood in front of the castle soon and looked up at it. She could hear the others talking around and looked towards the path leading to the town. They won't miss me for a few hours... she decided, heading down the path and looking around as she came to the road. She noticed how the houses increased steadily and soon put on her glamour. As the smells of different people increased she let herself blend into the crowd. Wow... this is quite a town. I wonder how long it takes before people notice someone's been taken by a vampire. she frowned at the thought. This was exactly the kind of town Will had taught her to hunt in, she could already see people who would be easy. I"ve spent to long away from crowds now. she decided, moving her thoughts to where the market was.

 

"Edward?" Hannah murmured, half asleep and half awake. "Something wrong?"

"Don't be mad at her," Michael said hurriedly. "From what I gather, she was tempted a great deal. I'm surprised she did it in such a fasion."

Beatrice rubbed Sorin's nose and moved his forlock out of his eyes. She sighed. "I kind of feel bad about it..."

You should. Sorin nudged Beatrice's shoulder.

"But at the same time," Beatrice hesitated, her hand on Sorin's cheek. "I want to do it again." She finished quietly.

It's your choice. Sorin blew through his nose.

"I know," Beatrice buried her face in Sorin's mane. "But it's hard.... I want it, but I don't... And I don't know which side of me is right."

So you're just going to do what HE tells you? Sorin burred.

Beatrice opened her mouth to say something, but the words got stuck in her throat. "I don't know," She said instead. "I don't know.... I wanted to help, but now I'm more confused and more of a problem. Why did I even come along?"

Because you CAN help them. Sorin swished his tail. You know there's a reason you're here.

"But what is the reason?" Beatrice started to pace. "I feel blinded, Sorin. I don't know what's coming up and I don't know what to do when it does. I don't even know if we'll all make it out of this alive! Just look at what Hannah's going through!"

Sorin bit Beatrice's sleeve. She's not you. She has it worse than you. Help her.

"I don't know how...," Beatrice rested her hand on Sorin's nose again. "I'm so lost...." She hung her head, her forehead against Sorin's.

 

Jinx found the market soon enough and looked around casually until she found a booth with heavy cloaks. "How much for a ladies cloak?" she asked the young man selling, politely.

He looked up, annoyed from what he'd been reading but put on a smile when he saw it was a woman. "Oh! Hi, it's ten." he handed her a cloak as she pulled out the money to pay.

"Thank you." she took the cloak and quickly pulled it over her shoulders and head, feeling the sting of the sun decrease immediatly. "Do you know where an bar or something might be? I'd like to get out of the sun for a moment." she smiled sweetly at him.

For a moment the boy just stared at her. "Huh? Oh yes! Just down the street." he finally got out. "But you shouldn't be unescorted, why don't you let me buy you something to drink? I'll get my brother to cover for me."

"No, that's not really nessasa-" she started to say but he'd already run off to get his brother. Now what if I wanted to rob him? What kind of fool runs off like that? she tapped her foot while she waited.

BIC: "I'm not angry with her," Van Helsing sighed. "I just wish she'd had a better conscious. It seemed... well, when she was human, it seemed like she wouldn't want to hurt people. This Lestat person even bothers. From what Edward and the others have said, I doubt I could even touch him, let alone kill him for what he's done."

 

"Hmm?" Edward began, opening his eyes. "Oh," he sighed, half growling, realizing he had indeed swore aloud. "Bee's gotten herself in some trouble."
