Van Helsing (Cont.)

Anna quickly followed Van Helsing. "You said they've never killed anyone?" She asked, already knowing it wasn't true after seeing Hannah's eyes.

Hannah twisted her fingers through Edward's, slowly going after Van Helsing. "This'll be interesting," She murmured.

I don't trust you after that stunt you pulled with Hannah, John snapped. The least of my problems is that mutt.

 

"Never anyone that didn't do something wrong, an evil deed that therefore lessened the impact of their death," Van Helsing said smoothly, trying to make himself sound convincing.

 

Edward tried not to sigh at Van Helsing's answer, but nodded at it instead. He's not the best liar, he thought to himself.

 

"But they have still killed people," Anna tried to clarify.

Hannah winced at Van Helsing's words. Henry...

 

Hmm, Lestat replied, thinking. I do not expect trust; you of all people should learn how to be polite, though. Edward may prove to be more formidable than you think.

 

"Their good intentions to want to help destroy the worst of their kind redeems them in my eyes," Van Helsing replied quickly, though he let go of Jinx's wrist. "That cannot be so hard to see."

 

Michael kept his hold on Beatrice. "We're not following until you're sure you can handle being near them."

 

"One good deed cannot redeem them from a life of murder," Anna retorted.

Hannah grit her teeth. "And you'd do any better?" She growled under her breath, too low for Anna or Van Helsing to hear.

Beatrice closed her eyes. "Let me go, Michael." She said slowly. "I'm not going to follow them. Just let me be alone for a while."

I don't think he's weak, I just don't have to worry about him. John said.

 

"Though, in your eyes, it seems enough to condemn them," Van Helsing retorted.

 

"Shh," Edward whispered, gripping Hannah's hand tighter.

 

And why is that? Lestat replied. You've suddenly developed an immunity to all werewolves or something?

 

Michael relinquished his hold on Beatrice, understanding. "I'll be right here when you get back."

 

He won't be in the picture when I... talk with Hannah again. John laughed slightly. I'll make sure of that.

"Something tells me I'm not going to get along with her," Hannah muttered, trying not to let Anna's ignorance bother her.

"They may try to be 'good,'" Anna attempted to keep her voice even. "But how long to do you expect them to hold out on that?"

Beatrice turned and looked at Michael. "Thanks," She tried to smile and then ran back into the trees.

 

"Long enough to finish Dracula and all the things he's created," Van Helsing replied strongly. "Isn't that good enough for you?" He yanked open the castle doors now as they reached them, motioning with his hand for everyone to enter before him.

 

"Neither will Jinx, by the sound of this," Edward murmured to Hannah as they walked inside.

 

Oh, we'll see, Lestat said, deciding in his head to taunt instead of befriend. I think I need to speak with Hannah myself sometime...

 

You'll stay away from her. John snarled.

"What else do you need to know?" Anna asked once they were all inside.

"Jinx is more patient than I am," Hannah murmured to Edward..

Beatrice looked over her shoulder. Assuming that if she couldn't see Michael he couldn't see her, she changed her course to go into town.

 

Michael sighed quietly, not needing to see Beatrice to tell where she was going. Van Helsing won't be happy about this...

 

"What do you know about Dracula so far?" Van Helsing asked. "After all these years you've hunted him, what did you discover?"

 

Edward smiled and led Hannah over to the nearest couch, sitting down and looking at Van Helsing after he glanced at the sitting room's wall. "Sorry," he began. "But wasn't that wall a map before I left?"
