Van Helsing (Cont.)

How do we get her to trust us? Edward asked suddenly, not sure if Michael would have an answer. I mean, I thought I would let Van Helsing do all the talking, but he's not doing that well so far.

 

"You don't know me," Anna contradicted. "I'm perfectally capable of fighting off anything that comes."

Carl glanced around. "It would seem so."

Beatrice bit her lip, recalling what Hannah had said. She did the math and came to the conclusion that Hannah would have had to have killed at least four people, the last being Henry. Is that why she said it was a matter of time? Because she... liked it? She thought, and then realized that Lestat was still listening. Oh no, please don't mention that to Hannah! I don't want to upset her.

You'd burn this whole forest if you tried. John laughed.

"And you with it." Hannah growled.

But you won't. You're too scared. John smirked.

"Stay out of my head!" Hannah yelled.

Ah, that's right. You're still hurting. That wasn't even everything I can do, my little dove. John sighed. You'll feel that later.

 

She doesn't seem like the trusting type. Michael shrugged. And once she sees the girls...

 

"I'd like to know you," Van Helsing began easily. "You see, we've figured to how to kill Dracula... we just need to figure out where he is now."

Well, I will not trust her with the secret of how to kill Dracula until she relaxes about us... and the girls, for that matter. Edward directed the thought at Van Helsing and Michael.

 

"Oh, I shan't say a thing," Lestat said softly, speaking aloud now that he was close to her, his eyes still shut, his feet hovering just above the ground, keeping his black boots out of the mud. "The last thing I would want to do is upset her... after I've seen what she can do... everything she can do." He laughed aloud to himself.

 

"He resides within his own castle." Anna said. "This used to be his home, but it belongs to my family now." She gestured at the map on the wall. "My father would stare at that map for hours trying to figure out where Dracula's castle is."

Carl stopped by the map. "It's all of Translyvania..."

Beatrice spun to look for Lestat. "Do you mean her... lycan abilities?"

"Why?" Hannah rasped.

"Care to elaborate?" John moved closer to Hannah.

"Whe me?" Hannah kept her eyes on the ground.

 

Michael nodded in agreement.

 

"Hmm," Van Helsing thought aloud, turning to face the map and glancing over at Carl. "What do you think?"

 

"I think we shouldn't leave the others alone outside for too long," Edward spoke aloud, his volume increased enough for all to hear.

 

"And then some," Lestat chuckled, pulling out a shadow to stand next to Beatrice, enjoying her small jump. "She's an.. intriguing girl when you get her... excited enough."

"Dracula was last seen with his brides earlier this year at the tower there." Anna pointed for Carl.

"But that burnt down," Carl murmured. "There's nothing there."

Beatrice's eyes widened. "OH... you mean that..." She looked at the ground. "You really got Edward upset, you know."

John chuckled. "You already know."

"Because you like my looks?" Hannah glared up at John.

John shook his head. "You were practically made for this life, Hannah."

"I was not made for the life of a monster," Hannah retorted.

"You have such a negative veiw on things," John sighed. "Remember Henry?" He smirked at Hannah's pain-filled expression. "That was you, Hannah. Not me."

"No," Hannah denied. "You made me this. He... he wasn't supposed to die that way... I wasn't... I shouldn't have..."

"If you'd listened to me, that wouldn't have happened." John brushed his fingers along Hannah's cheek. "It was a shame. Your own best friend and you-"

Hannah threw her fist into John's stomach. "Don't say another word about him."

 

Hannah and Beatrice left the carriages. Michael told Edward after concentrating on their scents. They're each with someone else. I think Van Helsing and Carl can handle this. We should go.

 

"Let it be, Edward," Van Helsing said sideways, not looking over at the man. He continued to watch Carl and Anna, letting his eyes rove over the map, memorizing anything he thought could be important.

 

Edward supressed a growl and shut his eyes for a moment. They could be in danger out there alone, he said to Michael, unsure if he was listening.

"Oh, don't act as if you're not intruiged yourself," Lestat murmured, letting the tips of his boots graze the ground for a moment, drifting on a small clump of grass. "Edward is better now, just as I thought. John, though... he's such a fickle man, the way he behaves. As if... well, he does remind me or me at an earlier age, even though he may be older. You must understand something, though, little one."

He paused, stepping forward, raising a finger to her cheek and smiling when she trembled slightly. "I did what I did to you for your own benefit," he began in a husky, soft whisper. "You felt useless, I could feel it like a wave washing toward me before I even knew a thought of who you were. You want to help them, yes, with all the little troubles they like fixing, all the so-called evil they want to rid this world. Well, little Bee, I made you the way you are to help them. And all you've done so far is act like Hannah: a weak-blooded fool, holding onto a mortal love of life that will help no one. You are what you are! Impress them; show that hunter you are not one to be underestimated. Not with my blood in you."

BIC: What if we miss something important-? Edward began, but then stopped, Lestat's strong, emotional voice coming into his head. Let's go, he added instead. Bee needs us.

 

"Yes, well he was the one that burnt it down." Anna said, glancing at Carl and then looking back at the map.

Carl nodded, already analyzing the map to its extent. "You said your father would look at this for hours? Why not just a parchement map?"

"This is much bigger and easier to scale distances," Anna explained.

"That could be a reason," Carl mused.

Beatrice shivered and then nodded slowly. "I do want to help..."

John staggered backward. "You know how to use your emotions."

Hannah straightened. "That's not all I know how to use." Not caring who saw, Hannah let her eyes fade to black, her fangs extend. "Round two."

 

Michael bowed his head to Anna, Carl, and Van Helsing. "Excuse us. There's something that Edward and I have to attend to."
