Van Helsing (Cont.)

"Your thoughts," Edward replied smoothly to Anna, leaning away from the tip of her gun. "Another thing that can help us later, if you'd let us past the front steps."

 

"The Vatican knows about you, miss," Van Helsing added slowly, carefully. "They want to help as well."

 

Anna was about to fire, but lowered her gun, Velkan coming to her thoughts. She looked at Van Helsing. "You're with a werewolf?" She asked, pushing aside his statement.

"It's quite a story," Carl said. "We'd be happy to tell you inside."

Anna eyed Edward once more, and then placed her gun back in it's holster. "No vampires are with you, are there?" She asked before inviting them inside.

"Just hurry up," Hannah let go of Beatrice's hand.

"John?" Beatrice pieced together.

Hannah nodded, her teeth clenched.

"Then let's go back," Beatrice already started walking back.

Hannah put a hand on Beatrice's shoulder. "You can't be around Carl like this."

 

Michael couldn't help but chuckle. I would call myself more werewolf than vampire.

 

"Who said anything about werewolves?" Van Helsing said, pushing past Anna slightly to get inside. "And, as far as vampires go... there's nothing wrong with having an inside man."

 

How does she know that? Edward thought to himself. I never said a word about what I am...

 

Oh, but she can, Lestat murmured at Hannah. You must agree their... how do you phrase it? Ah: their chemistry is interesting enough...

 

"She's not dumb," Michael whispered to Edward. "You're the one who told her you were prying in her thoughts. Only vampires and werewolves can do that. She must have pieced it together; you're not pale enough to be a vampire."

 

"Follow me," Anna told the men and headed down the hall to the map room.

She's... interesting. Carl thought.

"Right," Beatrice said after a moment. "Do you want to head back without me?"

"I told you I wouldn't let you out of my sight." Hannah reminded Beatrice, paying no attention to the sting from Lestat's voice.

"Even if John's hurting you?" Beatrice faced Hannah.

 

"All alone, are we?" Van Helsing began with a smile, stepping a little faster to walk next to Anna.

 

"There are magicians," Edward commented sideways at Michael. "People born with abilities that don't have to be a vampire or werewolf to be able to use thoughts to communicate and pry. I don't like the assumptions she makes."

 

"She's a hunter," Michael replied. "What other assumption will she make? I'd like to see her guess what I am." He laughed quietly.

 

What exactly are you planning to do out here by yourself, dear? Lestat chuckled at Beatrice. Calm down? Well, let me tell you something, little one: you will never be as calm as you wish until you satisfy your thirst for human blood. Ah, it is so wonderful; I don't see how anyone with the Dark Gift can resist it without being... weak, awfully moral, disgusting how you young ones cling to your mortal nature...

 

She won't guess a thing, Edward thought, not wanting Anna or Van Helsing to hear. Will probably mistrust and hate you for not being able to figure it out... that sounds about right, judging by her character so far.

 

"My brother is away," Anna answered Van Helsing.

"Just go," Hannah insisted.

"I'll be fast," Beatrice tried to smile and then ran into the thicker part of the trees. So you want me to kill someone? She asked Lestat. That's murder, and that's wrong. I can't do that.

You're opening yourself for me. John folded his arms, watching Hannah from a shadow.

Hannah put her hands on her head. "I'll use it." She threatened aloud.

Which 'it' are you referring to? You new little lycan abilities, or what I gave you? John questioned.

"Both," Hannah snarled.

 

I agree, Michael smiled. After this long, I've gotten acustomed to that kind of reaction. You should have seen the people in the 1600's.

 

"How convienient," Van Helsing muttered, and then laughed. "Being alone doesn't seem very safe," he added a little more seriously.

 

And that's his way of being friendly, Edward said in response to Michael, jerking his head in Van Helsing's direction as they walked. Stupid sometimes, isn't he?

 

As far as what I've seen, yes. Michael agreed with a quiet chuckle.

 

You need to be what you are, my little Bee, Lestat crooned happily, unconsciously drifting closer to her. It may not be very soon, considering how stubborn you are, but I will watch you come around... life is wonderful from where I stand, what I do... it may be a little lonely, but it's worth it all. Because, if there is no God, little one, like some people say, this life here, no matter how long we live it... may be all we have.
