Van Helsing (Cont.)

"Is some horrible eternal death... like fire, next to John." Jinx finished, defiently. "But we'll have to be creative to find a way to kill both of them without killing Hannah and me."

 

Edward slipped his arm under her shoulders, lifting her face close to his. "What kind of kiss?" he whispered.

 

Van Helsing nodded. "Dracula is more important to me now... not that Will isn't, for... for you, but I'd just rather finish what I started and..." He faded off, unsure what else to say.

 

Hannah briefly met Edward's eyes with her own red-ringed ones and then looked away. "Passionate." She finally answered.

 

Edward clenched his jaw tight for a moment, and then tried to relax every muscle in his body; he did a very poor job. "I'm just..." he began, and then stopped, clearing his throat. "I'm just going to assume whatever he did what to help you," he finished.

 

Jinx put her hand over his breifly. "That makes sense. Dracula's important right now, he's you're job and the biggest threat to other people, who need to be protected. Right?" she smiled, reassuringly.

 

Van Helsing nodded, giving her a smile. "I'd love to see you and everyone else here knock the hell out of that devil," he began happily. "I mean, he really can't stand a chance against all of us."

BIC: Jinx grinned at the thought. "Hello misplaced agression." she said, equally happy.

BIC: "It was," Hannah tried to sound reassuring. "It really was.... I know you're mad at me. That's okay. I kind of expected you to be. But now you know why John's so upset...."

 

Van Helsing laughed aloud, touching Jinx's hand himself, holding onto her fingers. "How much longer do you think it's going to be? I swear this road looks exactly the same all throughout Europe!"

 

"I've already understood what John feels," Edward replied. "I'm not very angry... I just think that I'm more jealous than upset right now; he... Lestat is not a bad person; he just makes me so..." He faded off, his hands clenching into fists.

 

Hannah moved away from Edward. "So you agree with John." Her quiet tone was a statement, not a question. "I didn't expect that." Her voice broke.

 

"I said I can understand his anger," Edward reiterated slowly, looking out the window of the carriage. "That's what I say."

 

"It was to help me, Edward." Hannah shut her eyes. "Do you hate me now?"

 

"Not at all," Edward said quickly, glancing over at her. "I believe you... and what you say I can go by... it may bother me, but I trust you both, for some reason."

 

"Do you wish I hadn't done it?" Hannah asked quieter, keeping her eyes closed and wrapping her arms around her torso.

 

"Of course," Edward said softly. "But that doesn't matter now; it's over and done with, nothing I can change. I will still do what I can to stop John from hurting you... permanently."

 

Hannah opened her eyes and stared at her lap. She rubbed her head, not fully aware of what she was doing. She wanted to ask if Edward knew what exactly John did, but she thought it best that didn't know; it might be worse than what she'd come up with. "He's already hurt me permanently..." She mumbled.

 

Lestat walked alone, his eyes shut, the breeze blowing the ruffled collar of his shirt. He leaned his head back, tilting it from side to side, flexing and stretching the tight muscles under his hard, white skin. He strolled at a normal pace, his senses guiding him through his eyelids, his mind wandering aimlessly through memories.

Akasha, he thought solemnly, her name only stinging him now. He couldn't help but recall the few full days he had spent with her. That lonely, ancient, isolted town in the Himalayan mountains, he mused. That demented temple we visited, where the villagers were tricked into thinking a vampire was a god there that they had to sacrifice themselves to for salvation... what was his name? Marcus? Maul? Something like that...

Akasha and I arrived... he was feeding on his worshipers... that disgusting way they threw themselves at him, believing his sucking the life out of them gave them eternal happiness... what a monstrous action, Louis would say. She told him she had come to kill him, just like all the other vampires in the world, besides those I told her not to harm. He refused; she set him on fire.

As he burned, the worshipers went insane, panicking. Akasha proceded to kill all the men in the temple, the few women there running back to the village, spared by her sexist views. She squeezed their hearts with her mind, made blood pour from their ears, eyes, noses, and mouths, then set them on fire, flailing everywhere. I cowered, was frightened, terrified beyond belief, seeing the woman I thought I loved destroying all these innocents, bathing in their blood...

"And then she asked me to do the same," Lestat thought aloud.

 

Edward felt immediate pity and anger clog his throat, but he swallowed and cleared it, reaching to touch her hand tentatively. "I'll fix it," he managed to whisper. "Everything, I promise."
