BIC: Jinx shook her head. "Don't be sorry. You're already being a better help than anyone has been."

 

"Well..." Van Helsing began slowly, taking a step toward her. "How else can I help?"

 

Jinx didn't move. "Like I said, you're already helping me more than anyone has. I don't know what else you could do." she smiled at him.

 

"How about something I want?" Van Helsing asked after a moment.

 

"Well... I guess that depends on what it is..." Jinx answered slowly. "What is it?" she asked, tentivily

 

"I want to kiss you," Van Helsing whispered.

 

Jinx felt her smile slowly disapear but she wasn't upset, to her surprise. "I think... um... I think I'd like that." she finally answered, quietly.

 

"Really?" Van Helsing choked, unsure what else to say. He put a tentative hand up to her face, leaning his forehead close to hers. He kissed her softly at first, unsure if she would back away or hit him, saying it was just a joke. But she didn't move, and he almost laughed against her lips and wrapped his arms tightly around her shoulders.

 

Jinx could feel herself kissing him back and smiled inwardly. She reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck, careful not to hold too tightly and hurt him. Stupid girl. part of her chided, but she ignored that thought and let her mind enjoy his arms around her.

 

Van Helsing kissed her one more time before he pulled away, keeping his hands on her shoulders. "You're right," he began, his voice cracking slightly. "We should... get back..."

 

Jinx released her arms from his neck and nodded, awkwardly. "Yeah... eh, right." she agreed, although she didn't move.

 

Van Helsing sighed, taking her hand. "Walk with me?" he asked politely.

 

Jinx nodded, squeezing his hand lightly. "Um, Van Helsing?" she began after they started walking back.

 

"Yes... dear?" Van Helsing asked, adding a smirk.

 

Jinx tried to stop herself from smiling back but gave up quickly. "Those were much better circumstances." she gently gabbed her elbow into his ribs. "Dear."

 

Van Helsing threw his head back and laughed, wrapping his arm around her shoulder. "Not to change the subject or anything," he began a moment later when they stepped out of the trees, "but do you think Hannah is back yet? It would certainly put Edward in a better mood."

 

"I don't know... I'm not even sure where she is to begin with." Jinx answered, looking up at the inn's floor they were staying in. "I hope so, though. I'm sure he trusts Lestat but he'll be happier when he can take care of her himself."

 

Van Helsing nodded, opening the door to the inn and heading up the stairs. "It sounds like they're a few in one room right now," he began, nodding towards one door.

 

"yeah, I can hear them..." Jinx trailed off, frowning in thought. "And who's that?" she asked more to herself as she heard Michael's voice and smelled the odd scent.

 

Van Helsing's arm tightened on her shoulder. "I don't know," he said quietly. "But if it's someone I don't like, I'll let him know the carriages are full."
