Van Helsing (Cont.)

Jake raised his muzzle to the air. I should be fine here. He deciding, curling into a ball on the ground. I'll just wait for that idiot to get further and those she-vamps to come out.

"It does," Lestat said in agreement, turning and staring down the hallway through the three open doors. "Watch," he murmured proudly, and thought "lock" happily, grinning when all three sets of doors snapped shut and relocked themselves.

"Now we're not going anywhere," he said, turning and smiling wider. The small room was built with golden, brass-colored stones, ancient Egyptian artifacts lining the walls and floor. Large torches stood in the corner, their light bouncing and reflecting off every shining, gemed surface. The wall opposite them had only two chairs against it, both tall, enamored, jeweled, bright thrones.

 

Edward finally caught the other werewolf's scent now, and padded slowly in the direction. He's going to be easy, he thought angrily.

 

"Hunting," Van Helsing laughed happily.

 

Hannah looked around the room and then back at Lestat. "You're going to stay with me?"

 

Jake huffed, his breath moving the dirt and leaves near his nose. He's not making this easy. He thought, getting irratated. He got back up and began walking again.

 

"Of course!" Lestat replied. "Nothing you can do will hurt me at all, my dear."

 

Hannah gave Lestat a questioning look. "You really are different. Not like me, I mean. You're..." She trailed off.

 

"A fiend? A brat? Amazingly more powerful than any other vampire still alive?" Lestat laughed, and then shrugged as if it didn't matter. "Yes. I know what you mean."

 

"I don't think you're a brat." Hannah objected, distracted from the pain sensation of bursting in her head.

 

Jinx smiled. "Have fun." she looked at Beatrice, "You ready?" she asked.

 

"If you need me... I'll try to help," Van Helsing muttered before he turned to the door and left, walking toward the trees, pulling his bow off his back.

 

Oh, keep moving, Edward snarled to himself, running faster now to catch up with the hunter.

 

"Well, thank you, my dear," Lestat replied. "I'm flattered, really. May I ask why you think so?"

 

"Well," Hannah began. "Brats are self-centered people, and though I don't exactly know your motivations, I don't think you're doing all this for yourself. I really think you want to help.

Beatrice watched Van Helsing go. "Yeah, I'm ready."

 

Jake skidded to a stop and swung around to face his followered. He bared his teeth and growled in warning.

 

"Alright. Carl, I guess you'll be alone for a bit. We'll be back soon."

"Go have a good time." Carl waved at them to go.

Jinx smiled at Beatrice. "Let's go." she started running as soon as they hit the trees.

 

"You're sweet," Lestat smiled politely. "You're not the first person I've said this about, but you should never have been one of us."

 

Being a coward, are you? Edward snapped in the hunter's mind. I'm going to kill you for touching her.
