Van Helsing (Cont.)

Edward looked over Hannah's shoulders at the book she held, trying to read the titles.

 

"She probably thinks you won't understand." Carl shrugged. "After all, you are a hunter. And she's probably feeling scared, and more in the way, and confused, and lost, and even lonely. You could try to be nicer to her."

Hannah gently flipped through the pages of the first book. "It's so detailed. It's like the author had first hand experience..." She trailed off and looked up at Lestat. "Where did you get these?" She asked, involuntarily blushing when she looked him in the eyes.

 

"Of course," Van Helsing sighed. "I just... I guess I do feel sorry for her and just don't know what to say."

 

"Well," Lestat began with a small chuckle, resisting the urge to wink at her. "Let's just say there are some richer folk in this town and they won't be missing any of their possessions. If you feel bad, I can return the books later, of coure," he added with a small smile.

 

Edward said nothing, waiting to ask the one question that was in his mind.

 

"Yes, well," Carl rumaged in his bag. "I suppose Hannah and Jinx are best for her now."

Hannah looked back at the book, knowing both Edward and Lestat could hear her heart race. "Right... I guess that would be best. I'll just get what I can out of them now."

 

"True," Van Helsing sighed, not knowing what else to say.

 

"I figured bringing something to you both would be a good idea," Lestat congratulated himself. "Now, let's let Edward speak his mind before he explodes!" He laughed, throwing his head back and running a hand through his white-blond hair.

 

"Where will you take her tomorrow night to be safe?" Edward asked immediately.

 

"Somewhere in Greece," Lestat said confidently, unable to stop himself from winking at Hannah now. "There is an island, off the mainland that no one inhabits anymore. Under the island, a vault that held the two most dangerous vampires in the world for over five thousand years: the Mother and Father. No one can get in or out besides me and one other vampire... and he is likely to never set foot there again, so... you'll be safe."

 

"I'll go get her... before she gets herself into trouble." Jinx sighed, standing up to follow Beatrice. "And you didn't really do anything wrong," she added to van helsing, "It's just that Carl's right, she's bonded to him and it really doesn't matter if we should or shouldn't trust him... he's her creator." she said it as if it that explained it pretty simply. Then she walked down stairs and scanned the room for Beatrice.

Carl sighed. "They are quite complicated, the ladies." he commetned.

 

Hannah looked up at Lestat, her head tiltled. "Greece? But-" She cut herself off, knowing it was best no matter where the location was. She sighed, "I guess it won't really matter to me when the times comes..."

"Aren't they cute, though?" Van Helsing replied, trying to smile.

 

"It will be fine," Lestat said, putting a cold hand on Hannah's shoulder. "You've got to stop worrying so much; it isn't healthy... even for people like us."

 

Hannah was thoughtfully quiet for a moment. "But can't make it there in... time..." She slowed at the end, more thoughts occurring to her. "What exactly can you do, Lestat?"

 

Lestat laughed, a slow, quiet sound under his breath. "I can do anything!" he exclaimed. "No, almost," he added, a little more softly. "I can fly faster than you could imagine, dear. We will get there with plenty of time to spare... and will have lots to talk about all night."

 

Jinx spotted Beatrice and quickly dodged past the men in the bar to get to her. "Hey, why'd you run off? You know it's not safe to do that." she chided, trying to sound overly motherly to get a smile out of Beatrice.

Carl laughed though his nose. "Cute's one way of saying it."

 

Hannah stared at Lestat, evedent awe in her golden eyes, and then looked back down. "I doubt I'll be doing any talking." She muttered.

"I didn't want to do anything that I would regret." Beatrice replied quietly. "He was making me really angry."
