"maybe we can ask him straight out what he wants?" Jinx suggested quickly, "Instead of going around wondering?"

"No," Van Helsing insisted. "Talk about it. I want to hear it."

 

Do you mind if I come and visit? Lestat laughed, though he already was standing outside the inn.

 

"I don't know, but he wants to speak with us," Edward muttered.

 

"No." Hannah said quickly. "Can't he just talk with you?"

"I said forget it." Beatrice argued, uncharacteristically angry.

 

Oh, she really doesn't like me, does she? Lestat sighed. Tell her to look out the window.

 

"Look out the window," Edward whispered.

 

Lestat hovered just outside the window of Hannah's and Edward's room, just under the shadow of the roof, his blue eyes shining, a wide grin on his face.

 

"Okay," Van Helsing snorted, and then made his face more serious when Jinx glared at him. "We can ask the... thing, I'm sure," he began instead. "But do you really want to trust anything he says to us?"

 

"Why?" Hannah asked, not moving. "I don't want to do this right now. I'm tired."

Beatrice was about to answer "I will," but she caught herself and kept quiet. I can't expect him to understand.

 

"Nothing to say, huh?" Van Helsing muttered under his breath. "So much for being useful."

 

"I don't think we have a choice at this point," Edward said, nodding his head toward the window.

"*SIGH* WHERE THE HELL IS LESAT??"

 

Hannah sighed and sat up. She started when she saw Lestat, but that quickly passed and she got up to open the window for him.

Beatrice stood up and stalked out of the room, and down the stairs. She was uncomfortably aware of the stares of the men at the bar, but her discomfort didn't erase her anger or confusion.

 

"What?" Van Helsing exclaimed, raising his arms and looking at Jinx and Carl. "I didn't do anything! She's just having... vampire mood swings or something..."

 

"Thank you, my dear," Lestat sighed, dropping gracefully into the room, and shaking back his hair. "I've brought you both some things that normal vampires couldn't be able to aquire during the day."

He gave Edward a wink and pulled a small, leather back off his right shoulder. "Now don't worry," he said, raising his gaze to Hannah for a moment. "I didn't kill anyone to achieve this."

Lestat pulled a black, long-sleeved, silk shirt out of the sack and tossed it to Edward. "Swallow your vanity, my friend, and put that on... just don't ruin it tomorrow night; it's very expensive. Even I would wear it!"

He turned to Hannah again and handed her the rest of the pack. "Just some reading you would like," he said. "I don't know what they are, really; the titles just seemed helpful."

 

"Thank you," Edward said through a laugh, pulling the loose shirt over his head, marverling at how soft the material was against his injuries.

 

Carl sighed. "I think she's got a connection with Lestat now." He explained. "See, I've been reading and there's a strong bond between a... child and their creator-" He started off on a rant off all he'd read.

Hannah smiled, a bit more earnestly than she meant to. "Thanks." She sat back down next to Edward and took out the books.

"Alright, alright!" Van Helsing cut in. "I get it. She just talks about being helpful, and then she won't even talk! Stupid girl..."

 

"You're welcome," Lestat sighed, shutting the window and leaning against it. "Doe that help you at all?"
