Van Helsing (Cont.)

"I was going to say that," Edward smiled, taking the other key out of his pocket. "Courtesy of Jinx."

 

If humans don't destroy themselves before then, Lestat added grimly.

 

Hannah smiled back. "Let's hope Van Helsing isn't angry anymore."

"True." John murmured. "They are overly violent."

 

"I'd think, after sharing something important... well, the most important detail I know to him, he'd be a bit nicer!" Edward sighed, opening the door for her.

 

But they do learn, Lestat replied. Maybe not as quickly as we would like, but... it's better than nothing.

 

Hannah went inside, took off her cloak and tossed it on a chair, and flopped onto a bed. "I don't think I'll ever get used to this." Her words were muffled by the pillow she buired her face in. "I used to go for walks with Elijah every afternoon." She turned her head to the side and looked at her hand.

Much better. John agreed, not fully paying attention to Lestat anymore.

 

Edward sighed, shutting and locking the door behind him. He went over to the bed and sat down next to her, not sure what to say. "You don't have to," he began quietly. "We'll fix some things."

 

Well, I am off to find something to eat, Lestat replied after a moment. If you need me for anything, let me know.

 

"Some things?" Hannah repeated. "I guess that's better than nothing." She smiled.

I will. John answered.

 

"Very true," Edward muttered, lying down next to her. "I'm just worried about tomorrow."

 

Lestat wandered off, free thoughts coming into his head, ones he couldn't stop, too strong to keep at bay when he was not completely occupied.

BIC: Jinx could hear them in the next room and smiled, deciding to let them be alone and not mention them to Van Helsing. She nodded to him instead. "I hope she can help us, or at least let us into her castle so we can get to Dracula."

"Who would say no to us?" Carl asked, grinning a little.

 

Smart people. Beatrice thought her answer instead of voicing it. We are an odd group.

"Me too," Hannah agreed, inconspicuously moving closer to Edward. "I wonder if this town has a library." She added, remembering that she wanted to do a bit of research.

BIC: "Well, I can always persuade the lady if she won't let us into her place..." Van Helsing began, and then frowned at the look Jinx was giving him. "I was joking!" he exclaimed. "Sort of..."

 

"Maybe," Edward thought aloud, moving his arm to pull her close to him. "It's hard to tell; I mean, this is a pretty small place. We can always look... later... well, after tomorrow night, obviously, don't you think?"

 

Lestat found himself thinking of Louis, like he always did when his mind wandered. His first child, the man's sweet, human face that kept it's soft, innocent nature despite all he put it through, including immortality.

Oh, my Louis, Lestat sighed to himself, not caring if anyone heard the thought or not. I miss you so... but I will see you again. Maybe we can make a trip back to New Orleans together, just like it used to be. For sixty years we were happy, the three of us... for sixty years it was Louis, Lestat, Claudia. Oh, how I still dream about that doomed little child...

 

Carl choaked back a laugh, seeing her expression as well.

Jinx raised an eyebrow at Van Helsing's 'joke'. "'Sort of'?" she repeated, "How reassuring..." she smiled cooly.

 

"My point was to do it before then." Hannah mumbled. "It would be helpful if we knew more of what was going to happen."

Beatrice held back a giggle. Poor Jinx.

 

"I won't do anything rash," Van Helsing muttered, not wanting her to be angry with him. "How does that sound? I can be a gentleman if I wish, trust me!"

 

"That's true," Edward replied. "When would you go, then?"
