Van Helsing (Cont.)

Hannah bit back the scream of pain that the sun caused her. She pulled back her hand and sent a swift left hook into Jake's jaw after hitting his gun away. Her eyes burned black as she slammed Jake against the tree, holding him by his throat. "I don't listen to anything from your mouth." She growled.

They would be lost without us. John agreed. He caught the change in Hannah's thoughts. Seems things are going ahead of schedule.

 

"Hannah!" Edward growled, pulling Van Helsing's gun from his pocket. Lestat, stop him!

 

Sorry... Lestat muttered after nodding toward John. John wouldn't like that, and if you want him dead, I shan't interfere when he wants Hannah to take charge.

 

Jake choked out a laugh. "I guess you got the better end of the deal."

 

Hannah tightened her grip on Jake with her good hand while the burn healed, her anger making her oblivious to Edward. "Damn right I did. I'd like nothing more than to kill you right now."

John headed towards Hannah, Jake, and Edward. I just have to see this.

 

Do something! Edward screamed in his head. I can't shoot... if I get near either, they'll tear me apart. You can do something, now help!

 

Lestat ignored Edward, casually following John, his mind otherwise occupied.

 

Jake locked eyes with Edward. Enjoying the show?

 

Hannah threw Jake to the side. "But I promised myself I would never kill anyone again. Not conciously."

That's a let down. Seems she's holding on to her last bit of control. John sighed.

Hannah closed her eyes, her hands locked in tight fists. "Leave before I change my mind."

 

"Don't let him go," Edward snapped at Hannah, his eyes not leaving Jake. "He'll just come back, as soon as tomorrow night, Hannah. Do it or I will!"

 

And I thought you'd persuaded all that control out of her, Lestat sighed. Seems you'll have to try harder.

 

Jake stood and brushed himself off, grinning. "I'll see you tomorrow then," He walked back towards the crowd of people. "Hannah." He chuckled, melding into the crowd.

 

Hannah opened her eyes, still trying to control her anger. "What the hell was that, Edward?!" She turned her back on Edward, slamming her fist into the tree. "You think I'm the kind of monster to just kill someone?"

She still can't get over herself. John muttered.

 

"You're kidding me," Edward sighed, almost under his breath. He put Van Helsing's gun back in his belt and ran a hand through his hair. "You don't understand, do you?" he began, turning to look at her. "People like him don't deserve to live! He'll take lives that shouldn't be taken; it has nothing to do with being a monster! God, you just... you don't understand."

 

True, Lestat laughed, though he understood Edward's words. Do you think she can do it tomorrow, though?

 

"If you wanted him dead so badly, why didn't you do it?" Hannah turned back around. "I can't do that, Edward. I can't live with myself being a killer. I've killed before, you know that; my own parents! If I can help it, I won't do it again... to anyone." She looked at Edward now. "That's what I'm scared of. Tomorrow... when I lose control... I... I might kill someone. And I... might enjoy it... especially if it's him."

That's what I'm hoping for. John replied. Though she won't be as aware of her actions as she is now. Instinct will overpower her petty fears.

 

"You won't be here tomorrow night," Edward replied, taking a step toward her. "You'll be somewhere where you can't hurt anyone, even yourself. If you're so worried about killing, then listen to Lestat and let him take you somewhere safe! You won't have to make a decision involving someone else's life."

 

Hopefully... maybe... Lestat murmured, listening to Edward.

 

Hannah threw her arms around Edward. "I'm sorry."

John glared at Hannah and Edward and then turned and stalked off. That makes me sick.

"Whatever you say, I'll do. I promise." Hannah said. "I'm just so scared of becoming something I don't want to be."

 

"We'll figure it out, I promise," Edward sighed, tightening his arms around her and kissing the top of her head. "The world will seem better once he's gone. You know... I've been thinking about something..." He faded off, putting a hand under her chin to look into her eyes. "After John is dead, you'll be different person physically as well as mentally. I can't tell you how, but you will, trust me. At that point, I think all the werewolf venom will be forced out of your system, whether it likes it or not. It just has to work that way."
