Van Helsing (Cont.)

"Oh, you see?" Dracula sighed, shaking his head slightly as he took in Beatrice's scent. "They don't trust you, don't trust your decisions... you'll find that home is your best decision."​

 

"None of you care, so stop acting like you do!" Beatrice burst. "I've just been a bother to you, admit it! I'm going home; back to my normal life. Just let me go."

 

Jinx let out a cold laugh. "Oh and how long will that last?" she snapped, unable to keep a hold on her voice any longer. "Look at us, Bee. Look at the ones here who are older than humans live. Do you think for one moment, that if it was possible to just 'go back to normal life', we wouldn't do it?" she shut her lips tightly and stepped away from Beatrice, giving up.

 

Dracula smiled at Beatrice's consent, and turned her so she was facing him.

"Now, you understand you must trust me for a second, yes?" he whispered in her ear, and, before she could say a word, lowered his lips to her neck and bit hard. He held her still wass she struggled and smiled; he could taste the power in her blood.

Dracula drained her to the point of unconsciousness and slung her small body easily over his shoulder.

"Gabriel," he said, licking the red off of his lips. "Bring me another one next time... better than Miss Valerious over there."

He wrapped his long, black cloak around himself and Beatrice. The ari bended around them and with a harsh snap, they disappeared.​

Jinx stared at where they'd dispeared, tapping her foot on the ground. "Are we leaving then?" she asked, through her teeth.

 

Edward looked at Hannah, trying his best to focus his energy on the wounds in his arms that were healing way too slowly.

"I'm fine," he insisted. "Just... dont let me move any muscles in my arms..."

 

"I'm sorry," Hannah said quietly. "I should have protected you...."

"I think we should stay," Anna suggested. "We won't get another chance like this. We should find what useful things we can in this castle."

 

"Don't be upset," Van Helsing tried at Jinx, putting his weapon on his back a hand on her shoulder. "That won't help."

 

"I know, but I can't help it. Bee's gone now." Jinx answered, queitly before looking at Anna. "That's a good point, although we'll have to be careful. Dracula isn't stupid, there are alot of things that could be set up to stop exploration."

 

"True," Van Helsing agreed. He looked over at Edward. "IS he okay?" he asked Hannah.

 

"He just needs a minute to heal," Hannah answered.

 

"Just.. give me... a minute," Edward insisted. "I need to heal... but it's not working. His claws must have poison in them..."

 

"How do you suggest we're going to just look around with Edward's arms broken in three different places?" Van Helsing began at Anna, finally acknowledging her speaking. "It's not like the castle is going anywhere."

 

"This is my fault," Edward managed as his breathing leveled and calmed. "I knew that all I had to do was bite him somewhere, let the poison take effect, and you all could finish him off... but no. I couldn't even manage that much..."

 

"Don't blame yourself," Hannah said kindly, but her tone quickly changed. "Blame Beatrice."

Anna turned to face Hannah. "You would blame the youngest? She shouldn't have been with you in the first place. What brought her to be with this group?"

"Her own choice," Hannah snarled in response. "You don't know enough to go talking like that."

 

Jinx crossed her arms over her chest and tapped her foot impatiently. "It's all our faults!" she cut in. "We're all a bunch of imbecels. Happy? Can we decide on what to do next now?" she asked, heatedly.

 

"Not getting angry is a start," Van Helsing said, giving Jinx a serious glance. "We best get out of here. We're... we're not as ready to do this as I thought."

Dracula turned on the spot, arriving in the top level of his castle, the foremost chamber now empty of the three women he'd spent such a long time with. He placed Beatrice down on the bed in the far corner of the room and stepped over to the window, waiting for her to wake up.​

 

"At least that's a desicion." Jinx looked away from the look he gave her but made herself try and calm down. "Edward, can you walk or do you need our help?" she asked.

 

At first, Beatrice took herself to be dreaming when she sat up carefully and took in the scene before her. Gingerly, the timid girl lifted a hand and touched the base of her neck near her shoulder. A small gasp escaped her lips and she quickly drew her hand away. The reality sunk in painfully, her tearless eyes burning. I wanted to go home....
