Van Helsing (Cont.)

"I think the less of an outside audience the better as far as our group is concerned," Van Helsing explained patiently.

 

"It doesn't matter to me," Edward said, putting his hand out to rest it and some of his weight on the door knob. "You can come in if you wish."

 

"I shan't stay long," Lestat whispered in Beatrice ear, motioning his head just slightly to the door and the voices on the other side of it. "What do you think they shall say when they come in?"

 

"We'll come with you," Michael said.

Hannah just nodded.

Beatrice was quiet for a moment. "Well... I... I guess they might be mad..."

Anna sighed. "I suppose you're right."

 

"Oh, I know," Van Helsing laughed, winking at Anna. "I guess that you should be thanking us for not doing this in the middle of your town."

 

Edward nodded at Michael. "Are you all really coming in, then? She should rest. I just haven't seen her awake yet." He looked at Hannah, Carl, and Jinx.

 

"Oh, they will be," Lestat laughed, moving himself closer to Beatrice on the bed and smiling to himself.

 

"Actually," Hannah began, looking at Michael. "I... I think I'll go outside for a bit."

Michael caught her glance. "I'll go with you then."

"You deserve no thanks from me," Anna retorted.

"But shouldn't they be happy that I'm happy?" Beatrice asked.

 

Jinx looked at the door, "I think I'll wait out here. The room isn't that big." she answered Edward.

"I'll come in." Carl answered, simply.

 

"Why not?" Van Helsing asked honestly, raising his arms. "I think it was better than a large performance in the town square."

 

Edward nodded at them all, looking at Hannah for a moment. "Alright, then," he said, opening the door.

 

Lestat just laughed at Beatrice's response and winked at Edward when he, Micheal, and Carl entered the room.

"Good evening, boys," he said smoothly. "Can I help you with something?"

 

Hannah paused in her trek when she came to Anna and Van Helsing. She was about to say something but decided against it and continued on outside.

"That is true," Anna said after Hannah had gone. "Regardless, they shouldn't be here at all. You should have done your job."

Michael was stunned silent for a brief moment. "Beatrice... is this-"

Beatrice held up a hand, quieting Michael. "Yes. And, if any of you are mad at him, please don't take any action until you're calm." She said as maturely as she could.

 

Jinx folded her arms over her chest and leaned on the wall, watching Anna as they talked.

Carl looked at Lestat and then Bee. He didn't trust Lestat but Bee seemed really sure about her stand point. "Feeling better still, Bee?" he asked, as normally as he could.

 

"I am doing my job," Van Helsing contradicted calmly. "Getting rid of things that are evil... John, that vampire Edward killed, was something inhabited by evil, and we got rid of him. Dracula is our next target, which is part of my job... so, technically, I am doing my job... just a little differently than you may like."

 

"I'm going to assume you're here to help," Edward said to Lestat, smirking at the look on the vampire's face as he limped over to the bed and sat at Beatrice's other side.

 

Lestat gave Michael a straight look, and then lazily rolled his eyes over to Edward. "Of course," he said smoothly. "Little Bee needed some encouragement... and that's what I'm best at. I'm surprised you're even conscious now, though. Impressive."

 

Hannah sat down once she was outside, wrapping her arms around her stomach. She stayed quiet and listened to the vague, uninteresting conversation of Anna and Van Helsing to distract her mind from things she didn't want to deal with. Michael can't possibly help me now. He's still... what he is, so he must not know what I'm going through now.

Beatrice sat straighter. "What? Are you hurt, Edward? What did I miss?" She asked quickly, full reflection of worry in her tone.

"Sooner or later, you'll find out that you should have killed them when you had the chance." Anna retorted.

 

"Why are you so sure of that?" Jinx asked Anna, unable to keep queit anymore.

Carl looked at Edward, thinking that he'd want to tell about what happened himself.
