Van Helsing (Cont.)

"What is it?" Hannah asked quickly.

Anna followed Van Helsing. "Should I be concerned?"

 

Edward gasped and let go of Hannah's arm. He rushed forward when he saw Lestat holding John up in the middle of the large room, stopping short as the vampire lashed out at him with one, still strong arm.

Do it, he heard Lestat snap in his head, dumping John heavily in his arms.

Edward immediately grasped the vampire’s shoulders, tempted to crush the blades together with his bare hands. Instead, he shook John until his eyes were level with his own.

“I have no idea what to say to you,†Edward snarled, a growl rising in his stomach. “All I can think of is how much pain you deserve for ever touching her in front of me… for making her what she is.â€

He saw John open his mouth to reply and cut him off, his eyes piercing, dark, almost venomous.

“Don’t say a word,†Edward growled. “Just hold still.â€

And, without thinking about it at all, shutting his eyes, Edward bent his head and dug his teeth deep into John’s neck.

 

"No, its not weird Bee. That's a really great thing to be able to do." Carl assured her. "You just saved yourself having to drink or take drugs and alot of pain."

"What's going on now?" Jinx asked, looking at Van Helsing.

 

Edward immediately wanted to gag, to vomit the moment his dull teeth bluntly pierced the vampire’s skin. His blood stung in his mouth, like vinegar, poison, bile, venom, liquid death down his throat. His mind began to turn red, pain bursting in every cell of his brain; his breathing became shallow and raged, his heartbeat fast and slow erratically, quick and then slow, making him want to faint, to pull away, to die…

But he forced himself to swallow, to keep the flailing vampire in his arms still, the tearing flesh on his lips from the movement making him cough and sputter red everywhere, the nasty feeling of white, cold skin piercing his mouth. Just as Lestat had said, Edward pulled his teeth away from John the moment his heartbeat began to slow. He fell to his knees, retching horribly, but forcing his body to not reject any of the deadly liquid he just drew into it. He tilted his head up to look at Hannah with his remaining strength, John’s blood on his hands and running down his chin.

“Come… here…†he rasped, his mind fogging and sharpening painfully, so quickly he almost thought he felt his heart stop for half a second.

 

"Then I'm happy about it," Beatrice grinned.

 

Hannah was instantly at Edward's side.

 

“Hannah…†Edward choked, putting a hand up to her cheek, tilting his wrist toward her mouth. “Bite my wrist…†he hissed at her. “Don’t argue… just do it… please.â€

 

Carl smiled at her, "I'm glad to hear it. So do you think you can get up or do you still need to rest?" he asked.

Jinx put a hand to her mouth as she gasped, shocked by what Edward was doing. She couldn't even imagine a werewolf drinking a vampire's blood. It seemed a natural taboo.

 

Hannah met Edward's eyes for a moment and then nodded. She held his wrist and, quickly so as not to cause too much pain, sunk her fangs through his skin.

 

Beatrice frowned. "I'm not sure.... Maybe I should wait to ask Hannah."

 

Edward bit back a scream, his head spinning almost more than he could bear. As the black started to cloud in his mind, he pulled his wrist away from her, gasping and wretching on the stone floor.

 

Lestat knelt next to Edward as well, smiling weakly. “Boo,†he laughed at Hannah. “Ah, no thanks,†he added when she opened her mouth to speak. “Maybe later. I do still have to dispatch your… maker here.â€

He stood with a flourish after clasping Edward’s shoulder for a moment. When he reached John, barely conscious now, he squatted down next to him and grinned. “I’ll be quick, shall I?â€

Lestat put his hands on either side of John’s head--

--Merciful death, how you love your precious guilt--

-- and twisted it sharply, the ugly snap not bothering him.

“I’ll check on you later, yes?†Lestat said to Edward, throwing John’s body over his shoulder easily.

 

"Edward?" Hannah turned her attention to him. "Edward, what do I need to do?" She asked quickly.

 

Thank you, Edward managed to think, his thoughts getting a little less hazy now. He was unable to speak aloud.

 

“Good luck with your Dracula,†Lestat inclined to the others before simply vanishing in midair, only a small chuckle left behind him.

I am so proud of myself.

 

"No," Hannah squeaked. "No, Edward stay with me." She moved closer to him.

Edward groaned, shutting his eyes and biting his lip, bringing blood. Help, Lestat... I can't breathe...

 

Hannah gently touched Edward's cheek. "Edward, please.... What do I need to do?"

 

Van Helsing stepped over to Hannah and Edward, his face in a dull grimace and his mind still shocked. "Just give him time to rest," he said to Hannah. "He's still alive, just in pain and... here..."

He knelt and touched Edward's neck, feeling the weak pulse there.

 

Edward pulled away from Van Helsing's touch, gritting his bloodstained teeth and clenching his fists. He moved his hand slowly, his eyes still shut, until he found Hannah's fingers and grabbed them weakly.

Lestat... he tried again. Please... I can't breathe...
