BIC: "Somebody in town has to be a doctor," Hannah started. "We could... borrow some things from them."

 

"Like something to numb the pain?" Edward asked, taking in what Lestat had told him. "I'd just get her drunk; that's a lot easier than stealing from these people."

 

Hannah folded her arms. "She's sixteen, Edward."

 

"Fine," Edward snapped. "Put drugs inside her sixteen-year-old body, then, from some doctor in the middle of nowhere, drugs that you have no idea how she will be affected by in the longterm! All I'm saying is a bottle of brandy will numb the pain and won't permanently damage her."

 

"Alright," Hannah let her arms hang by her side. "We'll do it your way." She was quiet for a moment. "Michael... can I ask you something?" She tried to change the subject.

"What's on your mind?" Michael responded.

"What happened back there..." Hannah faded off, unsure of how she wanted to phrase her question.

"Your tears?" Michael guessed.

Hannah nodded. "Do you know anything about that?"

"No," Michael shook his head. "Sorry." He glanced warily at Edward and then lightly brushed Hannah's cheek with his fingers. "Don't think about it too much, okay?"

 

Edward tightened his hands into fists, the blood cracking on his knuckles. "Ask Lestat," he muttered toward Hannah softly. "He has an answer for everything..."

 

Hannah moved away from Michael. "Edward, do you need to be alone? I don't want to bother you if you're still angry."

 

"He deserves more than this," Edward murmured in reply, lifting up his bloody hands in front of him. "I don't know how he could... I... I'm still angry, yes, but... shocked more than mad. I'm going to... I don't know what to do."

 

Hannah took a deep breath. "I don't think he meant to shoot her.... But the fact is he did, and I think we're all very angry with him. The only reason I'm not doing what you did is Bee's health. I don't want to leave her side, but at the same time, I want nothing more than to-"

"Hannah," Michael cut her off. "Don't start thinking like that or you will lose control."

Hannah realized her hands were balled into fists and forced them, and the rest of her muscles, to relax. "Sorry..." She muttered.

 

"Michael," Edward began now, turning his gaze to the man. "I need to make something clear here: do you realize what I'm going to do tonight?"

 

"I only know what I heard between Hannah and Van Helsing," Michael replied.

"That wasn't the best version," Hannah grumbled.

 

"I'm going to put myself as close to death as possible... for her," Edward replied coldly, nodding his head toward Hannah. "I'm doing something completely against my nature to save her life and the end the life of an awful person. So..." He sighed for a moment, and then smiled lightly at Michael. "So I'd appreciate it if you keep your hands off her and let me take care of her because, considering what I'm about to do... I think that's the least I deserve to get to do."

 

Michael was surprised for a moment. "That's not a trouble," He smiled back. "I'm just trying to help her as well. Unless you want her to go on a killing spree."

Hannah sat on the floor next to the bed. "Knock it off." She snapped at Edward and Michael.

 

"What I want is for you to back off, understand?" Edward snapped, ignoring Hannah. "Is that really so hard for you? You walk in here, get Hannah's and Beatrice's attention and expect me to just let it go, accept your help when I can handle it myself? You don't even need to be here! We don't need you!"

 

"I'm here because she," Michael pointed to Hannah. "Wanted me here. It was not my intention to draw Beatrice or Hannah away from you. I'm not interested in them at all!"

Hannah stood up and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her.

 

"That isn't funny." Jinx said, keeping pace with him. "He beat you up badly, I know I heard something crack."

"Will you two shut up?" Carl asked, almost politely. "i thought we were getting Bee some thing to numb her."

 

Edward sighed, running his hand through his hair. "She obviously doesn't want or need you," he said calmly after a moment. "Look, whether you're interested or not, things still happen. You need to just let it go, leave them be... go away."

He turned and put his hand on the doorknob, and glanced back at Beatrice for one moment before leaving.

 

"What do you think?" Michael asked Carl.

Impatient and frustrated, Hannah moved as fast as she could to the room with the mirror. Men. She thought. I don't think I'll ever understand them.

 

"My nose," Van Helsing replied. "It's.. cracked..." He touched the bridge of his nose lightly and winced. "But not completely broken... it should be fine if I just leave it alone. You can walk me to a bed if it makes you feel better, you know."
