Van Helsing (Cont.)

"I'm not leaving Bee," Hannah retorted, refusing to think about what Michael had said. "Just go."

"Do you really want to make her feel more insecure if she wakes up to find one of us gone?" Michael challenged.

"That's not my point," Hannah said, keeping calm. "I just don't want Anna coming back to find this."

 

"I'll see if Bee needs anything, then," Edward said, nodding at Jinx. He wanted to give her a smile, tell her sorry for what he did, for what Van Helsing did, for snapping at her, but his mouth refused to move. He turned back toward the castle, but looked back down at Van Helsing before stepping away.

"Keep your distance from me," he muttered. "I won't hold myself back next time I see you."

 

Van Helsing sighed and spit a mouthful of blood out on the grass and sat up on the ground. He looked up at Jinx a moment later. "Well?" he said softly. "What do you think of me now?"

 

"It's best if we have everyone here," Michael said.

"Fine. Stay then." Hannah responded.

 

Jinx knelt down next to him, looking him over. "I think you deserve to be left with Edward." she answered, coldly. Then her expression softened slightly and she tried to wipe away some of the blood on his face with her sleeve. "You're bleeding badly..." she said, sounding alittle worried. The smell was driving her crazy but she focused on his face and kept one hand firmly gripping the ground.

"I'll be fine," Van Helsing muttered, though he didn't shake off her hand. "You know it was an accident, right?" he began slowly, catching her eye. "You have to believe me; I was angry, yes. I had the gun out ready to fire, yes. But would I actually do it if he hadn't tackled me? No."

BIC:Jinx looked at him carefully. "I believe you, yes." she answered, slowly. "But she's still shot." she stopped trying to clean his face and pulled her hand back, rolling up the sleeve so that the blood wouldn't be so easy to smell.

 

Edward let himself inside the castle, gazing down at his hands as he walked toward the bedrooms. He jumped slightly when he saw the blood coating his knuckles and palms. He knocked on the door where the voices were coming from and opened it slowly.

"How is she?" he asked, stepping in and shutting the door behind him.

 

"Good," Van Helsing sighed. "This must be hard for you... all the blood, I mean."

 

Jinx nodded, "Pretty much." she was quite for a few seconds, "What are we going to do with you now? No one will want you around, you know." she tried to say it gently.

Carl looked up at him. "She'll alright, unconsious though. The bullets didn't hit anywhere too critical."

 

Lestat walked slowly, not paying too much attention to Edward's or John's mind. He let his feet drift slowly off the ground, the polished tips of his boots just brushing the grass that was lit by the afternoon sun. He reached out carefully to Beatrice, feeling her pain despite her lack of consciousness.

Little one, he began quietly. You can get better quickly, even without scars, if you focus on what I've given you. The blood in your body; the human blood of that man from last night... use it to your advantage. With some distance, of course, you still have the blood of the Mother inside your veins. Do you feel it? Focus just a little... and it will take affect. If you are not up by nightfall, I will come to you. That should be enough... incentive... for revival, yes?

 

"I'll find my own room," Van Helsing insisted, getting to his feet very slowly. "Away from everyone until they calm down... will you come with me?"

 

Jinx stood up and took hold of his hands to help him stand without falling down. "Okay." she agreed.

"I'm not sure," Hannah answered Edward. "She hasn't moved, but she's breathing fairly well."

"I'm no expert on bullet removal," Michael began. "But if we could get them out, she might be able to heal."

"She's too young," Hannah objected quietly. "Look for yourself."

Michael looked at Hannah, confused. When she repeated her command, he went to Beatrice's side and carefully pulled the hole in her shirt a bit wider. "It's healed already..." He said morbidly after he'd wiped some of the blood away. "Then how," He started, standing up. "Are we supposed to get the bullets out?"

Hannah answered Michael's question with only a sad gaze.

"You can't intend to do that," Michael countered.

"What else are we supposed to do?" Hannah retorted. "We can't leave them in her. That will only cause her more pain."

"And who's going to do it?" Michael challenged.

"Someone who doesn't mind blood," Hannah answered.

 

Van Helsing grasped her hands firmly for a moment before letting them go. "Call me over if Anna arrives," he said before leaving. "I want to speak with her before Edward does; I'm sure he'd just make matters worse with her."

"Are you suggesting me?" Edward began warily, gazing at Hannah and crossing his bloody hands and arms across his chest. "You can't expect me to carve some bullets out of her body and not worry; the blood is nothing, other things make a difference... do you understand?"

 

"Alright, I will." Jinx answered, as he left. "Are you sure you can walk?" she added, catching up with him for a moment.

Carl looked at the others for a few moments, listening. "Well I can do it." he said, "I have a medical knife, so it wouldn't be hacking into her with claws or teeth or something."

 

Hannah cringed. "No, Edward. I meant it would have to be either Carl, Van Helsing, or Anna. And since none of us want Van Helsing or Anna anywhere near Bee, it'll have to be Carl."

Michael clapped Carl on the shoulder. "Alright then. Looks like we got our man."

Anna swore and stood up from her croutched position near the corps. "Bury it." She told the men with her, wiping her hands on a rag.

 

"I think so," Van Helsing replied, shaking off her help once again. "If not, I can crawl," he added with a smile.

 

"That would be tricky," Edward said. "I don't know if she can handle it... what you would do to her, I mean. Her body's not used to the venom and blood in it, let alone the pain your knife can cause."

Lestat, he voiced in his head suddenly. Help her! She's your child and she's lying here unconscious!
