I was talking with our darling member, moshimoshi!!!, and we were wondering if there was in any way to add a notification for user notes. I checked Chev's thread, and I didn't see anything like this, but if there is one by chance then pay no mind to this thread. I personally wouldn't mind it, if it is even possible. I mean, even though we can see the amount of user notes we possess, often it is easily disregarded. I have noticed in the past, there were astronomical fads of spamming each other's user notes, almost like a second VM section gone "Fan Mail." But this hasn't happened to that scale in recent years. So it would only be ever so often, kind of like getting a picture album notification. Most user notes I have received are really touching and I'd like to know of a new one ASAP. What are your opinions on the matter?
I think it would be just lovely to be able to receive User Note notifications,just because it's always lovely getting one. If it was at all possible,it would be lovely to have it enabled? And good idea Llave and Moshi my darlings~
Well, the problem is that usernotes aren't as used as they use to. Visitor Messages didn't always exist you know. Like you said, people used it usernotes a lot in the past, and it was quite the useful alternative. But then Visitor Messages became available, and the amount of people that used usernotes dwindled. Visitor Messages is just a much better system and alternative. That said, it wouldn't hurt anyone to enable a User Note Notification since some people still use it. Although I have no idea if such a mod even exists.
I personally agree with Forsken here, always thought that the user notes were still around for only one reasons: The messages hold nostalgic value for a lot of people. And to be honest, I kinda like the fact that there's no notification. It's fun to just randomly notice the number of user notes has gone up and seeing some message that has been there for a while. There's just a certain charm about it. Though, if there is a way, and people want it, then I don't see why not.
They were used pre-Visitor Messages for almost the same reason VMs are. I personally don't know why they are still even there, seeing as VMs made them defunct. I probably wouldn't use it much at all, but if others still do, then go ahead. The need for a notification however, I doubt will be processed. I mean we have notifications to VMs, why would we need another form of communication to worry about unless you're actively using it which i'm sure is about 0.5% of the forum member.
Then why do we have notifications when people comment on our profile albums? I wouldn't think it's a means of communication anymore as it is a quick hello and such that won't be eternally engulfed in the endless abyss of VMs. I actually was unaware they were the prior form of communication, pre-existing VMs. That would make sense why the members from The Move to about 2007 have an abundance of them. I kinda agree with what Christhor was saying about how there's a certain charm of seeing it rise and reading them however...
It wouldn't really hurt for the user's who want it, but I wouldn't really like it or rather I would hardly use it. I have rarely ever used the user note function. I posted a few user notes on some friends pages but it's not that important. Maybe if it were added like the VM notification it would be fine. At any rate, I could see this not having much influence and being rarely used, unless of course you're super mega awesome and get user notes left and right.
I honestly thought we already had this. ._. At any rate, it couldn't hurt. As you all have said, people don't often use usernotes, so it's not as if adding the feature will drive everyone nuts. I'll take a look and see if there's a mod for this.
