I can't really say I'm surprised, there's no Monster Hunter after all. Even then I don't really think there's that much games on the system which interest Japanese buyers yet except for Hot Shots Golf and a few others. I would hardly call Uncharted a system seller there. I would give it a few more months when the heavy hitters start showing up then it will really lift off though whether it will sell as much as the 3DS I can't say.

I figured something like this would happen. At E3 2011, there was a stunning lack of titles that even caught my interest, if any had caught it at all. Don't get me wrong, the Vita is something of an interesting idea, but without solid titles to back it up, ehhh. A console/handheld is only as good as the games that are created for it.

I was glad to hear that the 3DS had picked up momentum.

I smell a price slash coming.

The reason it's underselling is probily because the 3DS is cheeper than a Vita not to mention a *certain* title is coming out soon.

Despite its poor line-up people knew the 3DS would have high-profile games later on (RE, KH etc ...). Developers had little doubt the latest Nintendo handheld would turn out to be be successful, so they announced major titles before it was even released. The PSV isn' t as lucky, few people are willing to bet on its success. Not only does its line-up suck, it doesn' t look like it' s gonna get any better anytime soon. Almost every high-profile games announced on the PSV is also announced on the PS3. Developers would rather wait and see if the Vita sells well before planing any exclusive killer-app, and customers won' t buy anything unless killer-apps are announced. Yeah, this is gonna end well ... I fear the high PS3-PSV compatibility will turn out to be the one thing that buried the PSV before it was even born.

I hope for Sony that SE will announce something soon, both PSV exclusive and much much much more exciting than a FFX half-baked remake.

Not that we can go by these sales, since the first while is always pretty bad for any gaming platform. However, it seems unlikely that the Vita will ever do good, especially with the loss of the one big series the PSP had.

This might just be the beginning of the end for the Playstation brand. Or at the very least, in the handheld market.

There is one game on the Vita that I like, UMVC3.

    But that's it.

The video game industry does love these chicken and the egg scenarios. In particular, companies don't wan't to make games for a system that they aren't sure if it will have good support. Gamers don't want to buy a system that doesn't have good games (or at least a promise of). Unfortunately Sony has been caught in the middle of this catch 22 quite a bit recently.

What seems to happen a lot is that game companies try to spread the game over multiple consoles to reach the widest audience. Respectable strategy for them but then that means they have to eliminate (or at least minimize) any features that make the console unique. In the end since it is all essentially the same, people go with what system is cheapest or offers the most exclusive games they like. Sony then falls apart because they are expensive and don't offer many exclusives that people are really wanting. If Sony is going to keep PlayStation alive they need to do what they can to lower the system price point and/or find some way to get developers to launch exclusives for them. Even if the Vita remains low I know this isn't the last of PlayStation but this certainly doesn't help them. And if the trend continues into future generations Sony will certainly be questioning if PlayStation is worth keeping.
