I am genuinely surprised, it seems nobody has insomuch as mentioned this series on this forum before. Strange. Very strange.

In any case, the anime adaptation of this comes out in a matter of days (July 2nd, I believe?), so I figured... Why not make a thread?

Anybody else played the visual novel/read the manga? I've actually only played through the first chapter ;_;. I'm saving my money for something other than the visual novel right now, but once I've bought that Umineko will be the first thing on my list.

For those of you who don't know, this is the sequel to Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (in a way). It has a different setting and characters, but connects to Higurashi in the way the universe functions... I suppose... I don't really know how to explain it otherwise.

I've never heard of it 0.0
Is it the same story of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni but just with different characters????

I am massively looking forward to the anime. Erkz linked me to some **** about it and it looks like it will be pretty awesome.

Higurashi is one of my favourite animes, so it will be interesting to see how they compare.

I will be honest and say I hadn't even heard of this until the other day on MSN.

Nope, not at all. It's about a wealthy family who go to a mansion on a small island to discuss how they will distribute their father's/grandfather's fortune when he dies. While they're there, a typhoon traps them on the island and people start getting brutally murdered. It's a part of the When They Cry series because it takes place in the same sort of 'universe' but it delves into how it works a lot more than Higurashi did.

If you speed read like hell you might be able to finish the first chapter of the visual novel before the anime starts to get a taste of the story. It's free and legal ;D.
If you want a link to it, just PM me. ~
&& I'm looking forward to it as well, the preview was great. The animation looks quite different from Higurashi though, I'm not entirely sure I'll like it (not that the animation in Higurashi was anything amazing... Umineko's just looks like a bit of a downgrade from Kai/Rei).

EDIT: Just got finished watching the first episode. Animation's fine, but it feels so rushed compared to the visual novel... I suppose that's a given. In that case, I guess I set my standards too high =P Not bad, not bad at all. Loving the OP and ED animations & most of the music is great too, sounds like it's from the VN.

    Saw Episode 1 and 2.
Feels a little rushed at the moment but still very intriguing and fun to watch.
    Waiting for Beatrice's appearance.

I felt the first episode was ridiculously rushed, but two was much better. Still, it's hard to make anything by 07th Expansion bad even if you tried, so I'm thinking it'll just get better from here. Well, hoping.

EDIT: Watched ep. 3 last night. Felt more rushed than 2, that's for sure. Not awful though.
I wish they wouldn't try so hard to squeeze a murder in every episode however, and Maria's creepy moments were overdone, I thought.
