what the hell is up with this song? Why is it soo popular? Personally i think its the most annoying song in the world, and the music video is crap. Someone wanna fill me in here?

Because it's got rythm, and that's something that sticks to some peoples brain. In this case many.
And cathy like SA said :3, and yes her voice is terrible.

The visa versa would be that people don't like it just because of it's beat/rythm and maybe doesn't think it's cathy at all.

I sort of like the song, not really most of it but it's really catchy.

I hate Rihanna with a passion, but that is an O.K. song. That and "Unfaithful", which is how I found her. :P

To cut to the jib, it's catchy and the beat/rythm is pretty stimulating to some people.

I liked the song and do like Rihanna's islander accent. She has a good voice to me and at least her songs aren't boring with no beat to them. I'm not much into mainstream music but she's cool with me.

It's almost like rap, except with distinguisable words and an actual beat behind it. Rihanna is gorgeous to boot, and she DOES have an interesting accent.

At first I loved the song, but having it played hundreds of times a week for like 10 weeks (or however long it was at the number one slot >_>) and the extra syllable she put in bugged the hell out of me >_>.

It's strange that I knew of her other old songs but never knew she did them until now =/

 

Like the other people said, it's catchy...although I have to say, I hate her, her voice and that although interesting at some parts, horrible video that goes with it.

BUT, I resently found a cover of it by Mandy Moore I belive that is much much better. It's a tiny bit slower, and her voice isen't the horrible rechid thing Rihanna's is. It's a good song if you listen to it really, but I think I could only do that with Mandy's cover of it, otherwise it's do damn annoying.

 

The actual singing in the song definately isn't good at all, but the rythm is catchy and that makes it good dancing music. That's why I think it's so popular. Personally I hate this song because I work at a skating rink and I hear it practically all day long and it makes me want to rip the speakers out of the wall.

 

I like it because of the "ella, ella, ella" part, it's so catchy and is automatically stuck in my head for the next few hours. I also really like Cinderella remix with Jay-Z and Chris Brown, it made the song even hotter.

 

i'm also wondering what the heak is so great about this weird song.

 

You like Mandy Moore and hate Rihanna? *shivers* I really do not like the pop princesses stuff. Her voice is 'okay' but eh, it's plain to me. The whole reason I like Rihanna's voice is it is strong, different and well, not plain Jane. She also has her own style and the accent from Barbados. Well, at least Paris Hilton didn't sing it.

I will admit though, hearing a song tons and tons of times gets on my nerves too. I don't really listen to regular radio though and prefer internet radio more because it doesn't have commercials and they will play various music instead of one genre.

Umbrella was mediocre. It did not deserve to spend 10 weeks at #1 in the UK (I'm still recovering). It should've at least spent a couple weeks there, tops. I actually wanted to shoot the idiots who were buying/downloading it in their thousands. It kept so many good songs that deserved to be #1 off the top spot (Foundations ='|)

At best, I liked the beat the first few times I heard it, but it got tedious. I don't really like Rihanna, cos she sounds so bored when she sings. Her voice is the same in every song I've heard of hers. She doesn't put much feeling into it. It's sleep inducing.

 

Rap has no actual beat? Rap has more beat than most rock songs. It's just people don't hear as well because of the rhymes itself.

 

Well, i also hate it.I generally hate rihana.Like the others said it may be catchy,and it DOES got rhythm,but i like songs with nice melody.So i guess i'll have to agree with ya :).

In my opinion, Rihanna is ugly, her voice is ugly, the video was crap, ALL of her songs are annoying, and she just... needs to go away.
