"Sorry, I can't tell you. Only an Elder and or an Official U.P.A. carry on, and or a Official U.P.A. Carry on Assistant, like myself, can know the location of the elder's. There very busy with the New Maxilo-11 Personal Readers series, and the drill being made, why do you need to see them?" Ryann asked...

OOC: Since Xardius has disappeared, I'm reduced to posting these...Xardius won't come back for a while. I'm doing this because I don't have a lot of time (too much homework and stuff), but I'll try my best.

Here's Chapter 2, or Part 2, or whatever.

    The Saga of Xardius

    Chapter 2: Prelude to Trials

Darius spun on his heel, his lightweight bamboo staff slapping out blow after blow. Rune’s eyes held determination as his own staff spun out Darius’ blows, and countering with his own.

Darius gritted his teeth. He was determined to wipe that smug grin off Rune’s face. Every blow he unleashed, however, was blocked easily and countered with three of Rune’s own.

Three long years had passed since the world barriers had appeared. Darius hadn’t seen any more of the strange beings Rune called Heartless since then. But then, he hadn’t seen much besides his farm and the desert in which he now resided with Rune.

Rune said it was called the Chaotic Desert. Darius called it hell. The barren wasteland held pockets of water everywhere, and their camp was located near one. The water bubbled up in a rather large spring, feeding the small oasis. The food was good, if scarce, but Darius often opened himself to the option that this was the only life in this entire barren wasteland.

Every day began before dawn with a run that ended with a rigorous routine of hand-to-hand combat against Rune. At first, it had started simple, a slow half mile run that ended with vigorous but easy training. Now the run consisted of over twenty miles in the hour allocated, and Rune attacked often without warning, hardly waiting for Darius to recuperate. Not that it mattered much in the long run, as Rune had explained one day. Darius would have been considered a master at hand-to-hand in anyone but Rune.

There were two ways, Rune had taught at first, to go about fighting hand-to-hand. The first, and the easiest, is the “bull.†Requirements: Explosive power and heavy endurance against blows of other physically strong opponents. Summarization of Use: Smash into the opponents and overpower them quickly with your physical strength, knocking them to the earth cold before they can attack you. The second is the “viper.†Requirements: Agility, strength, endurance, and a level head. Summarization of Use: The viper was called by some to be the dance of death, and in Darius’ opinion, the flowing moves often seemed like a dance…a dance that could kill. Knowledge of pressure points and quick feet were needed to complete this combat stance. Other formal combat skills, such as karate, Rune had never bothered to master, as he had taken out masters of all those forms using his bull and viper.

The verifiable jungle gym that Rune had set up shortly after arriving had to be finished three or four times before Rune was satisfied every morning. The stronger the body, he lectured, the stronger the mind. While Darius honed his body into a living weapon, Rune taught him everything: history, art, math, science, engineering, music, and other assorted skills. Darius had surprised Rune at his quick mind and wit, as he had surprised himself. Darius was on the final course of all skills, and Rune told him that he could probably confuse even professors of every art in his knowledge and skill, not to mention pound them to a pulp without trying.

Darius had grown considerably in the last few years, topping Rune by nearly a full foot. Rune grumbled about that, but in turn, Darius couldn’t see where his 7.5 foot height got him. In fights, it often seemed more of a hinder than a help, as Rune’s smaller body moved quicker than Xardius could, and often produced more of a bulldog punch that Darius could manage. Long and lean, Darius had wide shoulders, only slightly wider than Rune’s. Darius’ flame red hair and blue eyes provided a strange contrast, and Rune had jokingly asked if he put gel in his hair every morning. Darius didn’t see why he poked fun at his hair. It wasn’t his fault it sprayed upwards like his head were on fire.

After a quick lunch, Darius went through another phase in his training: weapons mastery. He was trained in every aspect of weapons Rune could provide, which was an awful lot. Helicopters, as Rune called them, Darius had never seen before, much less heard of. Rune had told him that was because the world borders had done more than just split the areas apart, but time as well. Darius, confused, had asked how he had gotten past the world borders and gotten the tanks, jets, and other assorted militaristic weapons and machines that were futuristic, but Rune was close-mouthed on the subject, and after dodging the question for the fifth time in a row, Darius stopped asking.

However he acquired the machines and weapons, Darius was ordered to master every single one. Darius soon could drive any vehicle, be it watercraft, aircraft, or landcraft, use any weapon from a simple pipe to a complex turret, knew how to make every one, and how to dissemble them, and matched, if not surpassed, all of Rune’s old “records.â€

Darius was also a fair cook, though Rune turned out to be better, and instead of flipping a coin, Rune decided another option was needed to spice things up: a match between Rune and Darius with weapons of their choice, often swords, for the “privilege†of cooking.

And so it was that Darius was now sparring with Rune.

He often chose swords when sparring with Rune, specifically large swords. Sparring with swords was like moving in a liquid dance. He used large swords because the smaller one-handed swords were too light and thin, easily broken with Darius’ powerful swings. Large swords slowed him down only fractionally, and Darius could realize his full potential with those large swords. Rune had an expertly crafted blade the width of his palm that he called a broadsword. Darius had spun moves with that as well, but not even that was heavy enough. Rune had once asked how wide and heavy he wanted it. Darius had replied with total seriousness: “As wide as my waist, and as heavy as one of my arms.†Rune had tapped his chin, nodded, and the next day Darius had a new sword that Rune called Chomper.

Today, Rune had chosen the weapons, two staffs as tall as Darius was, and two fingers or so thick. Darius used his like a long sword, while Rune spun his like a swallow.

This explained how the staff was smashed out of his hand with five successive blows from Rune’s spinning thrusts. Darius moved fast, falling backwards, just missing Rune’s quick slash that would have cracked ribs. Rune spun after him but Darius slipped inside one of Rune’s thrusts and caught the staff before Rune could recoil. With a grunt, he spun and Rune yelped as his feet left the ground and he smashed into a guard pole a ways away. Darius poked Rune in the ribs.

“I win,†he smirked, a characteristic he had inhabited from Rune.

“Took you long enough,†Rune grumbled, getting up and brushing his dark clothes off.

Darius frowned, and sighed. “Whatever. You’re cooking.â€

Rune grinned, ignoring the comment. “I think you’re ready to learn a new type of magic tonight.â€

Magic was the final phase of Darius’ training, which took place right after dinner, ending after the sun set. Darius had learned the elements of earth, water, fire, wind, life, gravity, magnetism, electricity, ice, time, light, and dark, as well as the magic spell Reflect. Mastery had yet to be obtained, and it took time as Rune said. Often, great trails of strength and valor were required to gain new levels of magic. Darius thought it was a waste of time. But a new magic spell…

“I call it Chi!†Rune said. “It contains the essence of your spirit inside it, so it is the element of spirit.â€

Darius scratched his chin. “Great. I’m hungry. Get cooking.â€

    Rune just smirked.

So, give me some ratings and some pointers. I tried to put in more detail this time, but the storyline went nowhere. Don't worry, next time will make up for it.
