OOC: Well, it's not my fault I had to leave. But anyhow, it's my turn to rant and post something...

    The Saga of Xardius

    Part One: Beginnings

Darius was born circumspect the beginning of time, if time was even measured in those days. Generations preceded him, but for him, it was the beginning.

His father worked in the small town in which Darius grew up, his job a humble farmer. His father would work in the fields, having his firstborn son, Benjamin, help him ship the goods to the town, where they would be spread throughout all the families in the area, including back to his own humble abode. Everyone had what they needed, and even wanted.

Darius grew up on the farm, milking the cows and working in the fields. His younger sister, Anna, would follow him around, while Benjamin showed him how to work the machinery and tools around the farm.

His life was simple, but happy. Until the year 16, at least according to his life, as it was Benjamin's 19th year, and Anna's 14th year. But time wasn't measured that way. Time doesn't matter in the light. The light was eternal, and the people were happy. Then disaster struck.

Like a bolt from the heavens, something changed in first one family, then the other, spreading through the town like a plague. Greed suffused their being, and money came into being.

Darius didn't understand the prospect, and coped with his friends as best he could. Until they pinned him down and beat him for controlling their food. Unable to defend himself, Darius limped home, exhausted.

That night, his world flew up in flames.

    ***

"Darius!" His mother raced to him. "What have they done to you?"

"My friends," Darius said, wiping some of the blood from his face onto a grimy sleeve, "beat me." The word was awkward on his tongue. "They said they were teaching me a lesson, but I didn't understand. They said that their dads were going to do more tonight. I don't understand, Mom. What were they talking about?"

"The people in this town have allowed darkness to suffuse their very being," wheezed his father, taking a wet cloth and gingerly wiping Darius's face with it. "They believe that I am holding food against them, that I am being greedy and keep more than is my due."

"But Dad, you don't do you?"

"No son I don't, but the townspeople do not believe that," his father said sadly. "And I believe that we're going to have to leave this town. Tonight."

    "Why Dad?"

"Something bad might happen if we don't."

    "We'll come back, won't we?"

"I don't think so, son. Go pack your things." His dad motioned over his shoulder, and stared out at the growing twilight. "The light's itching me to move on. We've strayed to close to the darkness by staying in this town."

His mother nodded. "Tonight. I'll pack our clothes."

"I'll get the kids," his father said, striding off into the twilight towards the small barn and storehouse that they kept their supplies in.

Darius folded up his clothes, oblivious. Stuffing them into a spare box, he stared around the room quizzically. Slowly, he picked up the picture frame that portrayed a picture of his family hugging each other, and he pulled the picture from the frame, placing the frame back on the desk.

He rubbed at his ears, wishing that the high-pitched noise would stop. Suddenly, he realized what it was he was hearing: Screaming. Someone was screaming. And then suddenly, it cut off.

His head jerked up, the picture was stuffed into a pocket, and Darius raced down the stairs.

His mother's body greeted him. "Mother!" he yelled, racing forward. He didn't see the blow coming.

With a grunt, he hit the ground.

There stood what was barely recognizable of one of the townsfolk. Darkness was folding in on him, and his eyes were yellow and slightly bulging. His hair had folded back into antenna, and a feral grin lay on his mouth.

"Kid," the townsman said. "You're next."

Darius cried out and leaped aside as the man's hand transformed into a dark claw, which whistled down towards him. It smashed through a table, and the man yelped, off balance. Part of the darkness ripped off and hit Darius in the belly.

Darius yelped, and something clicked in him. Slowly, he stood and the townsfolk charged.

"This is for my mother!" Darius cried, and he let loose his first punch. The townsman grunted as Darius's fist crushed his throat, and darkness ripped out of him, consuming him. In his place stood the first Heartless.

Darius screamed and ran from the house. He saw his father's head lying in the grass, a pool of blood around it. Darius thought he had screamed before, seeing his mother dead. Then he saw Benjamin, being torn to shreds by townsfolk, and his sister nailed to the barn's door, her eyes already glazed over.

Darius felt heat rising in him, as Benjamin screamed. Pitchforks gleamed wet with blood, and Benjamin fell, his body torn at hungrily by the townsfolk.

Then they saw him and they raced for him.

Heat bubbled out of him in waves, and the earth rippled.

Tears streamed down his face as townsfolk died.

Fire ripped from the earth in fountains, destroying them where they stood.

Darkest night ripped into the world, and Darius felt himself drift away, then with a grunt slam down.

Huddled in a weeping ball, the heat drifted away, leaving Darius cold.

All around him, bloody remnants of what had once been humans lay around him.

    ***

Dawn lay heavy on the ground. The remnants of what had been the farm lay around Darius. Eyes wide, Darius shook his head.

Heavy boots coming closer caused him to look up.

Standing in what had once been the path leading to the house was a heavily muscular man, a dark cape swirling about him in the light breeze. Sharp brown eyes stared at the destruction, at Darius huddled in the debris. Pushing black hair from his eyes, the man spoke.

"Darkness has fallen, young one. What is your name?"

Darius coughed, and spoke after a moment. "Darius."

"I am known as Rune. Do you know what has befallen this past night?"

    "I know I am alone."

"The worlds have been splintered by the beings known as Heartless. Darkness has ripped the worlds apart. It is a dangerous place."

    "Who are you?"

"I am Rune." The man shook his head. "I need a companion to help me. You are strong, young one, and I need your help. From the looks of it, you could use mine as well. I know how to survive in a world such as this. I know how to fight."

    "Fight?"

"I can teach you how to protect yourself, and those you love. Is there someone you love?"

Darius thought of the soft-skinned, beautiful woman named Marlene that he often thought of of late. He thought of the death around him, of the darkness, and slowly, he shook his head.

Rune stared at Darius for a while, then asked. "Do you wish...?"

"Teach me to fight." Darius said, standing to his full height of over six feet. "Teach me how to stop this from ever happening again."

Rune bowed low. "In return, I ask for one thing only: You will help me fulfill my destiny."

    "What is that?"

Rune smiled. "To restore the light to the worlds."

Darius nodded after a moment. "Then my goal shall be the same."

Rune held out a hand, and Darius strode forward.

The thought that crossed Rune's mind might have confused him before he had met darkness, but now...He already walks like he's been fighting twenty years. What power...The darkness will rue the day it stepped forth in our worlds.

Darius paused and wiped a tear from his cheek. "Goodbye my family. I go to seek the retribution for your graves, and redemption for my failure to stop your slaughter."

Rune and Darius strode off into the growing light, and Darius didn't look back once.

OOC: I'd give it a 7.5/10. You used a good amount of adjectives and vocabulary. But you also gave me some unwanted mental pictures...

BIC: "That's generous of you..." Vexneah smiled.

"Dude... I'm on your side, the U.P.A. isn't me, I mean I just work for them, I'm ordered to kill you, but I changed that. But, I might just have to follow my duty if I feel your below me..." Azull said in a sinister tone "Round up your gang.." he said...

OOC: 3.67/10. Darknight, your not descriptive enough for actually emotional writing, it was really good... but it just lacked...

OOC: Yay! I produced mental pictures! Even if they were unwanted...I did want to portray a certain amount of darkness in it, more than usual. The rest won't be as...um, gory.

I know, I was trying to hurry with it, because I had to get off really quick. Which I have to get off right now...so, um, see you tomorrow I guess.

I'll write the next part on a word document before posting next time, so I won't waste time on the internet.

Azull just gave a small smile at Vexneah's question, before the large ship doors closed, and it toke off "Our destination, the U.P.A. headquarters, I'm afraid you cannot see the outside of it, so please where theses" Azull said, handing them blindfolds

    Nulix reluctantly put it on...

Geryl looked at Azull. I already have one. Geryl then covered his right eye with his bandage.
