You hear all this bad **** about twitter because people say its stupid and pointless. How much more pointless is it than compared to facebook or myspace? and by whose definition is it pointless? Thoughts?

Well, in my opinion Facebook and Myspace have more of a purpose. On Twitter you just attract people to "follow" you.
It works better for celebrities/people that are well known, rather than some teenage girl surfing the internet and asking people to "follow" her.

In Facebook and Myspace you actually communicate with your friends, listen to the latest music, etc.

This is Twitter: "TAKIN A SHOWAH" "EATAN A COOKIE" "LOL GETTING IN MAH CAR"

I'm not going to 'tweet' what I'm doing every second. To me it's pointless.

What about the people in Iran who couldn't contact the outside world without twitter? That was the reason we were able to know what was happening there. It's a great medium.

Odd I remember the youtube vids of the protest being posted and being used by CNN more than Twitter responses.

I think Twitter is actually the most idiotic way to say what you do.
Why have that, Myspace has the same thing, on the top of the page. And they still abuse that with **** like "I HATE SALLY, THEY SHUD DY"

It's idiotic, the idea is stupid for a person to state what they are doing.
The person 'stalking' you should just ask.

All thethings you do on Twitter you could do on Facebook. It's just posting a comment on some wall, right? Facebook has the exact same feature.

I use it more now to check what other people are saying. I dunno, it's starting to get boring since I rarely update it anymore. Myspace and facebook are okay too, but I'm not that into social networking sites as I once was. They all kind of bore me now, except when I do log onto myspace or facebook, I have about 200 messages piled up to read since people still think I log into them a lot.

MySpace and Facebook has a purpose...well, sort of. They're another form of communicating with your ****** friends even when you're at home [like you don't get enough of them when you're out]. It's a place where you get to brag about yourself and attract strange people and make 10,000 friends. As well as attracting the awesome pedo-bears with your super-mega-foxy-awesome-hot pictures. Lastly, the greatest purpose of all: WASTING TIME. Basically, it's a social network...you meet new people and helps you keep in touch with other people, i.e. middle school friends, out of state friends and etc., without raising your phone bills. All in all, it's really just a better way to send an email to your buddies.

Twitter is the most pointless thing of all because you're stating what you're doing to the rest of the world. Do you REALLY need to declare what you're doing every minute to the every single person? There is absolutely no reason to tell all your friends whether if you are going to the park, eating some chips or taking a shower--might as well just tweet "I'm taking a shit ya'll. lol".

Not to mention, in the past couple of months, it's shown that twitter is a rather dangerous addition to the internet. Tweeting EVERYTHING you do and where you're going will definitely get you in trouble. Tweeting that you're out of town for a week will attract robbers and tweeting that you're going for a walk will attract your secret stalkers. Tweeting can even get you sued. It's a very reckless thing to twitter. Privacy is dying and even more people are finding out about your business when you'd rather not want them to know.

It's pointless for us, normal people: kids, teen, men, and women to have twitter. It's understandable for website or stars to have twitter. It makes sense for websites or programs you are subscribed to have twitter since it's a faster way to communicate with their followers or customers, but for regular people? There's just no point.

    What Pyro said.

Twitter is Myspace and Facebook with all the fun and cool stuff stripped out.

Twitter is the lazy way to blog. I have one and I only "tweet" maybe once or twice a week the same I do for facebook. I think that facebook is better because of the incorporation of more advanced features, but at the same time that is what makes it unique to Myspace or Twitter.

    I have facebook,twitter and myspace.
But I use facebook the most and myspace the least.
Twitter is kinda odd because you get people you don't even know following you sometimes.
I mean I follow some people on here, like Kites and Goimez;and I also follow some celebrities, and youtube "stars".But I find it odd that people read your status and stuff. It's like the ultimate stalker site.

I agree with Shades, Twitter is like a lazy way to blog. It's basically summing up things into the reader's digest version - short, easy, with nothing too it. Part of Twitter's general dislike comes from the way people use it. I'd be fine with it if it was used for news on bands, the world, games, etc, but for the full idea and for people to just say, as Pyro so nicely said, "taking a **** y'all," it's just downright annoying.

Facebook is really similar except you get more features.

Let's take Facebook and delete everything except the status updates.

    Gentlemen, we have Twitter.

I have to agree that Twitter is pointless, but one of the major things that people have missed out in here is the ability to protect your tweets so that it basically becomes a 'friends only' network like Facebook.

The 140 character limit on Twitter is a pain most of the time if you're writing an essay on something, but in the end, it's just becomes an easier way to keep friends updated in pretty much the same way that Facebook does.

... Of course, Facebook has far more features, but that's the thing that I'm starting to love about Twitter; just the simplicity of it. I wouldn't wanna see 3 pages of requests to join some guy's Mafia game on Twitter when I can get the same thing on Facebook.

Same goes for MySpace too. You've got the status/wtf you doin' foo part too.

SERIOUSLY...do people really feel the need to tell the whole world that you just got dumped or what you had for dinner? Has the ego gotten THIS bad? heh

To everyone who says it's like Facebook and Myspace without all the cool features: Because I don't want to have to deal with a bunch of quizzes and pictures and a whole bunch of other crap. All I want is to know what time my sister's coming home, or when Dan Shive of EGS updates. I usually use Twitter because I can sit there with my iPod and just type out my random thoughts and musings across several multi-tweets. I can tell all my followers how I almost broke my arm. I know I never read my friends' status updates on Facebook because there's so much other crap in the way. I want to know that someone's going to pay attention to what I'm saying because that's all there is to pay attention to. Sorry if that seems self-centered, but this is my personal opinion. Sometimes, I just wanna talk, and I don't care who reads it. If you don't care about what goes inside my head, then don't follow me.
