I'm so glad to hear that you are okay, you have no idea. Congratulations on the new heart (and the successful heart surgery)!

I hope this one lasts a long time.

    Thanks once again. ^^

He had some pain on his left side of his chest so the nurse gave him some heavy pain medication so he can sleep it off (which he is doing now).

On a good note, he's been drinking water, talking very well, drank some tea and beef broth and kept it down, his fever is almost gone, and his chest incision is actually healing quite rapidly already. He's still hooked up to a lot of tubes and could be in the hospital for a week or two, but he's really hoping to be able to have enough strength to leave in three days. ^^

I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like having to have your heart replaced, but thank god Tummer got through it okay. Wishing you all the best dude.

Hm, this seems to be the perfect time to ask.

If you were to replace a person's heart every 50 years with a good, working heart, could they live forever?

Not trolling, I'm genuinely curious in regards to deaths just from old age.

    No.

Even if you do keep replacing hearts every fifty years, your body is still aging, and your other organs would likely cease functioning/have failings eventually (along with your body in general).

That's good that you're recovering Tummer!! You'll feel much better once the incision (?) heals and your body gets used to the new heart!

    Good point.

I knew everything else aged, but because the heart is what runs it all, I thought that it *might* be possible to live longer -- probably not forever, I guess, now, but longer.

The brain's actually what runs everything else, iirc. And that definitely ages

And then there's the fact that sometimes the body doesn't take the heart (or any organ) as well as Tummer's seems to have. Sometimes the body rejects the new organ as a foreign object, and the new organ will fail.
