A large ship just sank. There are five people on the lifeboat, but the lifeboat is only made for two, and is starting to sink. I'll list the five people on the boat, and you decide which ones are worth saving, and which ones will be thrown overboard.
First, there is an old, old, crippled grandfather.
Second, there's a mentally handicapped person in a wheelchair.
Third, there's an overweight woman on welfare, with a sniffling, whimpering baby.
Fourth, a young doctor with perfect teeth.
Fifth, Katy Perry.

Which ones are worth saving, and which ones would you throw overboard?

Wrong. He cannot prove that his father perceives, thinks, or, indeed, exists. At best, he knows that something that he attaches to the idea of a person is expressing ideas to him through sound, body language and other means. Not that it is conscious to do those things, only that he perceives a result. There is no way for him to prove that there is a mind or thoughts behind the words that come out of "his father's" mouth. He perceives, he thinks, but he cannot prove the same of potential minds apart from his own. So of course he should value the only mind that he can prove exists over all others.

"I think therefore I am" does not extend to "I perceive actions therefore others think as well".

Depends on how well I know the grandfather, but...

I assume that I get to choose two, and that I will not be on the lifeboat with them.

The doctor and Katy Perry. The doctor will be more help than the others to a great number of people, and I will be known for having saved Katy Perry. She is worth a lot of money compared to the others. At the least, I will get to have some influence on her, and perhaps I could get her to pay me for letting her in. These two will be more useful to me than the others.

 

I probably wouldn't change it, I'm quite comfortable with how everything is going now.
But if I did change it I would start sharpening my artistic skills from an earlier age.

If I had a Death Note I'd only get rid of my enemies or no one at all. I wouldn't go as far as Light did.

It all depends on what mood I was in at the time.
If I was angry or even a bit grumpy,or rather hyper,then it would be C,for the sole reason that i enjoy getting in fights and beating the shit out of people who bother me.
But otherwise,it would be A,as I don't know the person so do not care at all. I wouldnt even feel guilty.

Please stop discussing my step-father as though he matters. He is not a member of KHV, and therefore does not matter so long as we are here.
And what Makaze is trying to get across is that your own life is always the most important because to you, if somebody else dies, they still exist in your mind, but if you die, everything ceases to exist. Your own death is the absolute end to the universe, as far as your brain is concerned.

Form of combat was not specified, and therefore lightsaber sparring with me is an acceptable answer.

 

This depends on the premise of his father existing being true.

This would be true from his father's perspective if you could prove that his father existed to have a perspective, but alas, you cannot do that.

Every hypothetical person can only prove their own existence from their vantage point. As far as you know, I do not not exist. And if I exist, then I do not know that you do. There is no way to tell if anyone other than you exists, no matter who you are. That is my point.

A 'bias' regarding the self is the obvious choice for this reason. Logic tells you that as the only person that you know to exist, your life is more precious than those around you. It only follows.
